Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Great tire. Fast shipping. E-trailer has never let me down.

by:

Excellent radial trailer tire. Purchased set of six wheel/tire combo from etrailer 2015. Used this Karrier as replacement tires in June 2022. Very happy with this, and all, purchases from etrailer.

Speedy service and great transaction

by:

Only just put tires on, so can't yet report on them. They look/feel well made. etrailer made good on their 110% price guarantee when I proved a lower price elsewhere. When it appeared there was going to be a delay in shipping they called and offered an alternative tire which I chose to decline and waited for these. They arrived earlier than anticipated however. Easy transaction, hope the tires are as good as other reviews. A word of warning; the shop took 8 hours yesterday to do a laser alignment on my Correct Track equipped 5th wheel and to mount these 4 tires. Adding insult to injury, they billed a half hour apiece to mount them, or $270! I almost blew a gasket after they had told me that it would only be a couple of hours and that I'd be fine waiting. The sign on the wall for $29 (each) mounting was if you bought their tires (very fine print). Needless to say I didn't let them get away with that. I at least give them credit for honoring the $29 sign on the wall after arguing it. Next time I'll be getting them mounted elsewhere....

by:

  • Will a ST235/80R16 Work as a Spare Tire on a Trailer With ST235/85R16 Tires?
There are 2 concerns with using a ST235/80R16 # AM10248 in place of the ST235/85R16 # AM10295 as a spare on your trailer. First is you may have a possible weight capacity issues since there is a weight capacity difference even with both tires both being load range E. The 235/80 is rated for up to 3,500lbs while the 235/85 is rated up to 3,640lbs. The next issues is since the tires are different heights 30.9" versus 31.6 this can alter how the weight is distributed on the suspension depending...

  • Tire/Wheel Availability as Spare for 2010 Outback 5th Wheel Trailer with 235/80-16 Tires
We offer trailer tires and wheels separately and also pre-mounted together in combinations such as those shown on the link provided. Not every tire and wheel option are offered combined but one that we offer in a 235/85R16 size with 6-on-5-1/2 bolt pattern is # AM32764 which is rated as Load Range E. Another E-rated combination with an aluminum wheel is # AM32734 also from Kenda. You can click on the included part links to see these two items. We also offer one 235/80-16 radial tire on...

  • Can Trailer Tires Be Used on Front of Farm Tractor
According to my research, it is acceptable to use trailer tires on the front wheels of a tractor for the use you described. The # AM10248 tire in ST235/80R16 fits best on a 6, 6-1/2, 7 or 7-1/2 inch wide wheel. The tire has an E load rating, which carries a 3,197 lb capacity per tire, or 6394 lb per axle.

  • Recommended Replacement Wheels and Tires For a 2001 Kieferbilt Horse Trailer With 5,200LB Axles
The Dexstar # AM20746 is going to have a silver powder coat finish while the Vesper # TA73VR has a more durable acrylic enamel finish which is resists damage better than powder coat. For the tires I recommend sticking with a quality ST235/80R16 load range E tire like the Karrier # AM10248. Going up to a 14-ply like the Westlake # WE76FR will cause the tire to bounce more than deflect which transfers more shock into the trailer causing a worse ride for your horses and equipment.

  • Can ST235/85R16 And ST235/80R16 Tires be Used on Trailer at Same Time
Thank you for the kind words, that is much appreciated, and while I do wish I could tell you it was okay, in regards to having different size tires on your trailer - ST235/85R16 and ST235/80R16 - it is definitely not recommended. There are a number of different issues that can occur. You'll get uneven tire wear with the tires having different rotations, your trailer could track oddly, and there could be suspension issues occurring because of the 1 inch diameter size difference. Basically,...

I recommend using the Karrier ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10248 on your Lionshead wheels for your 2020 Grand Design Momentum 25G trailer. These tires are rated for 3,500lbs of weight per tire with a load range E rating at 90psi and the speed rating M(81mph) you are wanting. The tire also carries a 5 year warranty with 1 year worry free guarantee. Wheel manufacturers do not give a maximum psi rating for their wheels the way tire manufactures list their tires. • Trailer Tire Country of Origin, Balancing Information, and Switching to a Larger Size
The Kenda Karrier Radial Tire, # AM10248, is made overseas in China. It seams that most trailer tires are now made overseas. If you were to purchase a tire and wheel assembly, the tires are mounted on the wheel from the manufacturer, but they do not balance them the way that a tire shop would balance a tire. They do not use weights to offset a light side with a heavy side. Instead, they try to match the light side of a tire with the heavy side of a wheel. If you wanted it balanced beyond...

As examples, the Kenda Karrier # AM10248 is rated J for 65-mph while the Westlake # LHWL401 carries an L speed rating, 75-mph. The Taskmaster # TTWTRTM2358016E has an M speed rating, good up to 81-mph. This letter code will be indicated on the sidewall any trailer tire. • Recommended Tires for 30 Foot Flat Bed Gooseneck Trailer with 235/80R16 Tires
For your 30 foot Gooseneck trailer with tandem axles with dual tires, the tires used depend on the load rating. The size is fine, but if they are load range E like # AM10248 rated for 3197 lbs they will work fine but they only will have a 10 ply rating and are also only rated for speeds up to 65 mph. • Dual Wheel 6.5 x 16 Tire Replacement
I recommend the Kenda Karrier ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire item # AM10248. This is a comparable replacement for your current tires. You will need to measure the space between your current tires to ensure you have enough room for the bigger tires. This tire is rated to fit 16" diameter x 6.5" wide" wheels but each one will be an inch wider and you will need to ensure you have enough space on your dual wheel to mount wider tires.

  • Choosing Appropriate Tires for 5th Wheel Camper Based On Weight
You are correct that when choosing a tire, the load capacity of the tires are added together for the total capacity. For a trailer like you mentioned with a total weight of 13,000 pounds, you will want each tire to have at least 3,250 pound weight capacity. There is not a specific percentage of extra capacity that needs to be taken into consideration. You can certainly use a tire with a larger weight capacity to have some breathing room. The hitch weight is placed on the tow vehicle,...

  • Are The Wheels On My Trailer Capable of Handling The Higher Pressure Of Higher Load Rating Tires?
You should not have an issue with the air pressure for your wheels. With todays conventional wheels the Tire # AM10248 and Valve Stem # AM20906 are the limiting factory when you deal with air pressures. The tire shop who replaces your tire should verify the valve stems are compatible with the tire pressure and replace if necessary as they install the tire. We recommend the 100 psi rated valve stem # AM20904. The capacity of this wheel is 3,580 pounds. I recommend an ST/235/80-16 tire size like # AM10248 for this wheel. The tire is rated for 3,197 pounds at 90 psi.

  • Will Going to a Higher Load Range Tire Prevent Blowouts on a 5th Wheel Trailer
First, regarding inflation, trailer tires should always be inflated to the maximum pressure as indicated on the tire. If you do this when they are cold (always inflate tires cold) there is no need to let any air out after they have warmed up. The slight pressure increase will not cause any problems, even in the desert. If the tires are inflated to the max and they are blowing out it could mean the trailer is overloaded. But based on what you have said the trailer was going to and from...

For example, the Karrier ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range E # AM10248 should be inflated to 90 psi, while the Westlake ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range E # LHWL401 has...
