Westlake Radials

This radial ply tire from Westlake is constructed with double steel belts and double polyester cords for increased durability. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation.

Westlake Standard Tread Close-Up

The standard tread on this tire has solid, continuous ribs, and there are very few sipes (or thin grooves) cut into the rubber. This tire is designed for use on trailers, so it doesn't require the level of traction that would be needed on a vehicle that is braking or steering.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

This tire is OEM for what comes on a Columbus 5th wheel. It is not the cheap Chinese bomb that many RVer's talk about although it is made in China. I ruined my tire on a curb (rookie mistake) and wanted to match the original OEM. My 5th wheel has been in service since 2017 and these tires are doing very well. Arrived two days after I placed my order. etrailer.com to the rescue! I ordered the wheel and tire at the same time and only etrailer.com had what I needed online. Thank you etrailer!!!

Tire is holding up very well. Would definitely buy again. I am very happy after using product for a year.

by:

Replace with new Westlake as I had good luck with them on my camper before

by:

I have this tire on my spare, which I unfortunately needed last week, and looks great! I've purchased 2 more to replace the spare and another tire on my camper that is wearing. I hope they last longer than the initial tires.

two of the 3 tires have blown during trips. Changing to a much better tire.

by:

Last trip out with my fifth wheel, ran over a piece of metal in the road causing tire to go flat, luckily it happened right by entrance to the campground. Was able to air it up enough to get to my site without damaging rim. Put my spare on for my return trip to home but damage to my tire was too close to side wall to repair so I ordered west lake ST235/80R 16 from etrailer which is exactly the match that came on trailer. Tire came on time and perfect match to existing tire. I have had my fiver for 3 1/2 years and the west lakes seem to be holding up fine in regards to the wear. Price from etrailer was lower than any other place I checked and manufacture date stamped on tire was recent so I got a new tire instead of one that had been sitting in a wharehouse for awhile. This is the 2nd tire I have purchased from etrailer and completely satisfied with both purchases. First purchase was same tire with wheel so I had an extra spare for long trips just in case. Would recommend etrailer for prices and expert technical assistance. Happy camping.

I am very happy I ordered 235-80-16 E tire received it without any problem don't have it on yet will install it on 5th wheel camper trailer. thank you

by:

These are the tires that came on the Cimarron gooseneck horse trailer that I ordered from the factory. They perform well and are durable. One of them got a puncture in the tread close to the sidewall and couldn't be plugged so I ordered a new tire to replace it and match the others still on my trailer.

by:

Tires are holding up been to Oklahoma and all over Louisiana. Thanks

by:

Had a blow out with Westlake E rated tires on my 5th wheel. Replaced all 6 with G rated tire. No problems since Replaced.

by:

would give 5 stars only had it about a year, so far it has performed as expected time will tell .
Has held up well on my 5th wheel

by:

As always I found exactly what I need on etrailer quickly and easily. Thank you for a very user-friendly web site. I got what I ordered and it arrived one day ahead of schedule. I can't say much about the tire until I put some miles on it. I think NM Hway 285 south of Carlsbad is what spelled doom for the one I'm replacing so we shall see.

by:

It took over 40 minutes to get someone to answer phone and take my order
Once the agent answered I could not ask for better service. She was very helpful and knowledgeable. I was traveling and in a very bad situation and could not move my camper until i received my order. She expidited my order as she promised and I was able to get back on the road to home!!
BRAVO etrailer!!!

by:

I really don’t have a review on product since I just received it today and have yet to mount, but as far as etrailer goes it was fast shipping. I hope to have better luck with this tire than the west lake tire that blew out on me.

by:

This is the third time that I bought these tires from E trailer and never had any problems with them. Free shipping and had the tires within a week. Great way to buy tires.

by:

i transport cars with my trailer i got about 70,000 miles on these tires be for replacing them

by:

Shipping was extremely fast, good follow-up customer service, the tires look great and had a great review, I have 6 of these on a 44 ft. Gooseneck, time to get some miles in and see how they do!

by:

Very. Knowledgeable

by:

by:

Great tire matches the ones that came with our new travel trailer.

by:

Had a screw in a tire after vacation so needed a replacement. Was pleased to find exact match at Etrailer, as always, fast shipment and great price. Thanks!

by:

Etrailor has the tires I needed. The price was fair and they were delivered on time.

  • Recommended 235/80R16 Tires to Replace LT Tires on 5th Wheel Trailer
I definitely recommend upgrading the LT tires on your trailer to Special Trailer (ST) tires. Special Trailer tires are specifically designed to handle higher loads and air pressures. This is because they are constructed with thicker and stronger sidewalls when compared to standard automobile or truck tires. I do not recommend continuing to use LT tires on your trailer. I recommend looking at the Westlake ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire # LHWL401. This is the same size tire that you currently...

  • Correct Tire Pressure for ST235/80R16 Trailer Tires
Special trailer tires should always be inflated to the maximum psi pressure figure shown right on the tire sidewall. Always check pressure and inflate as needed with the tires cold, such as first thing in the morning. As you drive and as the daytime temperature increases the pressure within the tire will then increase from the cold starting pressure but this is normal and does not require you to compensate for it. Each 10 degrees of Fahrenheit ambient temperature change equates to about...

  • Should I Fill My Tow Vehicle's Tires To The PSI On the Sidewall Or PSI On the Door Jamb
The load range sticker in the driver door jamb of your tow vehicle is what the recommend psi rating is for the factory tire size. If this is the size you have on your tow vehicle then that is the amount you will fill the tires to. If you have a non-factory tire size that is not listed on the load range sticker in the driver door jamb then I cannot advise on the proper psi rating. That said, you will always want to go off of the load range sticker in the driver door jamb not the max psi...

  • Recommended Tire PSI and Load Range for Large Fifth Wheel Trailer
The psi should be listed on the sidewall of the tire. It is recommended that tires always be inflated to the max psi. Different tire manufacturers may have different psi ratings even for the same tire size and load range, so it's always best to go by the psi rating listed on the tire itself. Also note that tires should never be over-inflated or under-inflated. Inflating tires to a lower air pressure than the maximum reduces the amount of weight that the tire can handle to an unknown amount,...

I have another option for you, but the Westlake ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range E # LHWL401 you were looking at are only 10-ply tires. Instead I recommend the Westlake ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range G # WE76FR which is a 14-ply tire with a load rating of 4080lbs at 110 PSI. The # WE76FR is constructed with double steel belts and double polyester plies making it a strong tire, and also includes a 2 year complimentary road side assistance should anything happen....

  • What Causes Trailer Tire Failure and Recommendation for Size 235/80R16
Typically trailer tires fail for the following 3 reasons. 1) Keep your tires fully inflated to the maximum pressure listed on the tire sidewall. Unlike a passenger car tire, trailer tires feature a stronger sidewall designed to provide greater stability when under load. Failure to fully inflate the tires can cause heat build-up, leading to premature tire failure. Also, a tire only will only realize its specified load rating when inflated to its maximum psi shown on the tire. 2) Do not...

  • Can the Warm Actual PSI Inside a Tire Exceed the Cold PSI Rating While Towing
The max psi rating that is listed on the sidewall of your tow vehicle's tires is while the tire is cold. Therefore, the actual psi while warm could very well exceed this. That is not cause for concern as this is taken into consideration when the recommended psi rating which is listed on the door jamb was created. Therefore, you will need to fill your tires to the recommended psi rating on the door jamb regardless of ambient temperature or the weight of cargo/trailer unless otherwise stated...

  • What is the Correct PSI Rating for ST235/80R16 Trailer Tires
The psi rating on the sidewall of all trailer tires is the cold PSI rating, meaning the tire should be inflated to that psi rating before the tire heats up. If your tire says 80 psi, then the manufacturer intended for that tire to be inflated to 80 PSI before you hit the road. If you start out at a lower pressure, then the biggest concern that you will have is that the weight rating of the tire will also decrease. It is recommended that trailer tires be inflated to their recommended PSI. If...

  • Will Upgrading to 17.5" Trailer Wheels Increase Ride Height
No, switching from a 16" wheel to a 17.5" wheel will not increase ride height. This really comes down to size as there are different size tires for each of these wheel options. If we take the largest tire size we offer for each, 235/85-16 like Karrier part # AM10501 and 215/75-17.5 like Provider part # TTWP15175, the 235/85 measures 31.6" diameter and the 215/75 measures 30.2" so you'll actually be losing about .7" in height.
