Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

E-Trailer service is the very best. O ordered 4 tires a month ago, only got two, probably due to UPS thinking strike. Called four days ago. What usually takes a week for here on friday. Thank you again E-Trailer.

Excellent tire for heavy trailers wears great and excellent on wet roads

by:

I received my tires very soon after placing my order. I ordered these tires as a replacement to what came on my horse trailer. I had put two of the same tires on the trailer the year before. I liked the cost and the quality of the tire. So I decided to replace the other two tires with the same, so as to have the same tires all around on the trailer. I bought them with the mindset to keep everything alike. I am more at ease when pulling the trailer knowing that I have maintained my trailer as well as keeping good tires on it as well. Too many times have I seen people on the side of the road with a blown out tire on a trailer. No problem right? I've even seen trailers unhooked sitting on the side of the road, what would I do with three horses if it were me? Certainly not leave them on the side of the road. I prefer to prevent an emergency then to cause one. Take care of your equipment and it will take care of you. These tires and E-Trailer have allowed me to do so in an affordable manner. Thanks for checking in on me!

Still looking great. Went to Alaska and back as spair tires. Just getting ready to put
them on the trailer. I have purchased the other two so now the test begins. I ran the last pair 30+ thousand miles and still look good but time to change. Have great load capacity for my big 5th wheel. Thanks

  • Recommended Radial Tires For Dexstar Conventional Wheel 16 Inches Diameter
For the Dexstar Conventional wheels # AM20766 you referenced, I recommend using the Karrier ST235/85R16 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range E # AM10295. This is a really nice quality radial tire that will give you a high load range and great traction especially on highway driving. You will also need a valve stem and I recommend the Americana Metal, Bolt-In Valve Stem - 1-1/4" Long - Over 100 psi, # AM20906. This combination will offer great results without any tubes in the tire.

  • Trailer Tires Keep Blowing Out on a 2013 Jayco Seismic 3812 19K 5th Wheel Trailer
You most likely have 16 inch tires since 18 is not common trailer tire size. There are 2 different possible 16 inch tires that you could have, 235/80-16 or 235/85-16. the 235/80 tires max out at 3,500 pounds. On a tri-axle trailer that would be a total of 21,000 pounds. The 235/85 tires max out at 3,960 pounds for a total of 23,760 pounds on a tri-axle trailer. Now going with a higher capacity tire could help but that might not be the problem. Trailer tires should also be filled to the...

  • Recommended Replacement Tires For 12,500 Lb Trailer
I have attached a couple of helpful articles about tires that you can check out. The article that is titled Trailer Tire Frequently Asked Questions explains the difference between trailer tires and those used on a vehicle. A trailer tire has tougher sidewalls due to the excessive weight they are made to carry. Typical reasons for tire failure are improper inflation, excessive speed, and overloading. Normally, we recommend a good radial tire unless it is used for off-road applications like...

While the Aluminum Liger Trailer Wheel # LH39FR does not carry a maximum pressure rating the included valve stem is rated for 110psi. You will need to ensure that this is not lower than the maximum pressure rating for the tire you intend to use. Here are the tires we carry I recommend using depending on your weight capacity and size needed. • Trailer Tires for a 2012 Heartland Bighorn 3610 5th Wheel Trailer with ST235/80-16 Tires
Usually when a trailer or RV is blowing tires it is because they are not properly inflated. You mentioned inflating the tires to 80 psi. If that is the maximum pressure indicated on the tires then that is not likely the issue. If the tires require a higher or lower pressure make sure to reach that figure. It is possible that the tire size used on the trailer is either barely enough for the weight of the trailer or not enough. The sudden shock of a bump could cause a failure in that situation. Going...

The speed rating on the Karrier ST235/85R16 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range E, part # AM10295, and all special trailer tires (ST) is 65 miles per hour. It is not recommended to run a trailer tire at a higher speed than 65 miles per hour due to the heat buildup that will occur inside the tire and cause the tire to break down and could cause the tire to fail. Special Trailer, (ST) tires should be inflated to the maximum air pressure that is stamped on the sidewall of the tire. It will be...

  • What is the Difference Between Load Range and Ply Rating for a Trailer Tire
Any given tire size will have different load ranges available. The higher the load range, the higher the capacity and ply rating is. So an E load range will have a higher capacity and ply rating than a D load range tire of the same size. The ply rating is not the same as the amount of plies on the tire. The physical number of plies will be less than the ply rating. This is because the material and technology used to make the plies and tires has advanced to the point to where the ply rating...

  • What is Causing Abnormal Trailer Tire Wear on a Trailer with a New Axle
If your trailer tires are getting flat spots on them then that is an indication of an improper axle alignment and/or worn suspension. To check if the axle is the culprit measure from the center of the coupler to the center of the wheel on one side then do the same for the other side. Be sure to measure from the same spot on the coupler. The measurements should be nearly exact. Even if only slightly off that can have a negative impact on tire wear. • Trailer Tire Recommendation in ST235/80R16 Load Range E
A lot people use the Goodyear tires. We also hear a lot of problems with them but that usually is a result of under inflation which is a problem for any trailer tire. Carlisle makes a good tire too. And Taskmaster, # TTWTRTM2358016E, which we do carry is a solid performer as well. There are some trailer manufacturers that use Taskmaster as their OEM tires. Taskmaster tire # TTWTRTM2358016E is a 235/80-16 load range E tire rated for 3,520 pounds at 80 psi. It also has an M speed rating...

  • Replacement Trailer Tire for a 10,060 Pound 5th Wheel Trailer with ST225/75R15 Tires
The general rule is that trailer tires that are 6 years old or older should be replaced regardless of how much tread is left or how well they appear to be. There could be unseen damage caused by dry rot that could lead to tire failure. The tires we carry, especially in the most common sizes, are usually no more than 1 year old. Some of the uncommon sizes might be a little older. The 225/75-15 is a common size. I recommend sticking with that size if that is what the trailer manufacturer...

  • Replacement 235/80-16 Tires on a 2013 Big Horn 5th Wheel Trailer with Frequent Blow Outs
What seems to happen is if the 5th wheel trailer is towed nose up in the front, more weight is put on the tires. Since the axles are rated for a total of 12,000 pounds, that is under the gross vehicle rating of 14,000 pounds. So if there isn't at least 2,000 pounds pin weight at the front the trailer tires will be overloaded, get hot, and that is what is leading to the failure. Also, make sure the tires are always inflated to the maximum psi indicated on the tire. Trailer tires have a...
