AreThe Lionshead Liger Aluminum Wheels Capable of Supporting Load Range G Tires With Higher PSI?
Question:
I just had my Westlake ST235/80R16 load range E tire self destruct on the highway at 62mph. The wheel - Rim survived as I pulled over quickly thanks TPMS! The Tread separated like a recap and blew out. I am looking to replace all 5 of my tires as they are 4 years old per the date code I checked a few months back, with App 10K miles total on them. I have 4 of the Lionshead Liger rims which do not say anywhere on them what PSI they CAN handle, nor on your website. I would like to upgrade to a stronger tire, 12 - to 14 ply tire which are usually 110 PSI tires, but also better built. Im considering the Carlisle CSL16 ST235/80R16 129M G All Season Trailer Tire. I LIKE the M speed rating, G rated, 12/32 tread depth but @ suggested 110PSI for max full load, which I will never reach with my 2020 Momentum 25G trailer with these rims. My Trailer weighs in at 10400#s WET and Loaded ready to camp. I may try running them at 100 PSI possibly - I will ask the manufacturer of whatever tires I buy... Im seeing reports of the Goodyear Endurance Load Einch POPULAR tires also self destructing now and then and they are around the same price for 10 ply - so China Bombsinch or not, I JUST desire good reliable tires... WHAT do you recommend? And - can I run 110psi tires on those rims with metal valve stems? Thank You!

I recommend using the Karrier ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10248 on your Lionshead wheels for your 2020 Grand Design Momentum 25G trailer. These tires are rated for 3,500lbs of weight per tire with a load range E rating at 90psi and the speed rating M(81mph) you are wanting. The tire also carries a 5 year warranty with 1 year worry free guarantee. Wheel manufacturers do not give a maximum psi rating for their wheels the way tire manufactures list their tires.
Using a Load Range G tire like the Provider ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire # PRG80235 on your current wheels can increase the risk of damage to your aluminum wheels. Since the tires are higher rated it reduces the amount the tire compresses which on a trailer also acts as the shock absorbers for the trailer. This creates more stress on the trailer and all the components including the wheels.
As far as tire pressure goes Goodyear is the only trailer tire manufacturer I am aware that will allow you to run the tires at a lower pressure than the maximum pressure rating. As long as you are not exceeding the maximum pressure for the tires or the metal valve stems you can use the 110psi pressure in the tires.
