Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Same great quality as the pair I bought earlier with wheels. This one is to be the spare and these are great tires.

by:

Everything was good

by:

tires are strong and will work great with my trailer. Will give me peace of mind going down the road

by:

Tires came standing upright in a big box, making them easy to mount and air up because they didn't get deformed. Price was great and they are functioning properly.

by:

Ordered two of these tires to replace two that are failing. Like the increased load range on these tires and perform well on the road. However, the two tires I needed to replace were because of loss of a portion of the tread on one of them and an area of extreme wear/cupping on the other tire. Speculate this was because I left the tires on the trailer over the four months of inactivity during winter season and they were sitting on a concrete surface. Lesson learned and will remove them and store indoors this winter

The tires are perfect for my application -DW-58 RV platform- with even greater durability, both on and off road, than hoped for. That said, both wheel valve stems leaked and had to be replaced with metal high pressure stems. During the replacement it was discovered both rubber valve stems had cuts from the wheels valve stem hole. PLUS, one of the holes was egg shaped! That wheel has since been recycled at a scrap yard.

by:

etrailer gets both thumbs up. They carried the high load range tires I could not find locally, priced right, and delivered promptly. I received the entire order correctly and on time. Thanks to their free shipping offer, I was also able to add a trailer light which pushed my order across the threshold for free shipping making it, in essence, a freebie.
I'll definitely go to etrailer first next time.

by:

These tires are wearing very well. I like the load rating since I occasionally carry things that might be kind of heavy.

The tires have worked out well. Ive had several Kenda tires and they are excellent. I never worry about them.

by:

Excellent product, price, and very fast shipping. Would definitely recommend this company for all trailer needs.

by:

These tires are very ruggedly built. They carry a load rating of D, and the stout construction is impressive. They are a bit more difficult to mount because of the stiff, rugged construction. So it takes some muscle and some patience if you are using hand tools to mount them. This is a nice upgrade over the tires that were originally installed on my trailer.

by:

Great product. Upgraded from B to D's. Wish these came with rims because they're impossible to mount yourself. Tire shop cost $10 per mount though. Already put 300 miles on them and no longer have the worry of overloaded tires. So far so good and arrived on time in perfect condition. Thanks!

by:

One of the two tires blew up while hauling a light load at highway speeds (65mph).
For what I paid for the tires, I was very unhappy and got the royal run-around from the dealer and then passed off to the mfg. and got no joy from them. Save your money and just get HD tires from the big box stores.

by:

great product and price

by:

I purchased two 5.70.8 tires for my golf cart trailer. I ordered them on Sunday evening. I had some questions so called Etrailer and talked to Phillis. She answered all my questions and then actually competed my order and said tires would be shipped Monday ground transportation 5 to 7 days.
I
I thanked her said ok but would lose six or seven days without a cart. Low and behold she called me back and up graded my shipping to primer shipping
For same cost. Tires shipped on Monday received them Wednesday afternoon and was back on the road to golf on Thursday. Thank you .

I've had nothing but good luck with kenda trailer tires, I don't even bother looking at other brands!

by:

This is the second time I have dealt with etrailer in ordering tires . I have to say the service is outstanding , communication is great delivery time is right on schedule and I will use them again in the future .

by:

OUTSTANDING customer service. Korren C. was very helpful in providing exactly the correct item(s). Ordering was simple, quick and done with a high degree of professionalism. I remain an avid etrailer customer due to their fast and courteous service as well as their knowledge of their products.Delivery of items arrived BEFORE anticipated date.

  • What Does 5.70 and 8 Mean On a 5.70-8 Trailer Tire
In regards to a 5.70-8 tire, the 5.70 represents the width of the tire which is 5.7" wide and the 8 represents the diameter of the wheel the tire is designed to fit which is 8" diameter. If you are needing a replacement, the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire is what I recommend and is offered in a load range B part # AM10010, load range c part # AM10012, and load range d part # AM10013. Assuming you have clearance, there are a few other options for tire sizes that will fit an 8" diameter which...

  • Taller Tire Solution for Trailer to Replace 5.7-8 Size
1 inch of clearance between the frame and the inner sidewall is the minimum that is recommended so your best solution is to not go with a wider tire but a taller one if possible. A 5.30-12 tire and wheel like the Kenda 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12" Galvanized Wheel # AM30850 would accomplish this as it's about 3 inches taller and actually narrower.

  • What Is The Speed Rating Of The Kenda 5.70-8 Wheel and Tire Combination AM30120?
The Kenda 5.70-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel - 4 on 4 - Load Range C # AM30120 you were looking at nor any of the 5.70-8 tires available come with a M speed rating of 81 MPH and instead are all rated to 65 MPH. A Load Range D tire is an 8-ply tire and will be able to carry a heavier load than a load range C, 6-ply, tire. The # AM30120 you were looking at is indeed a 6-ply tire with a load rating of 910lbs at 75 PSI. If you were needing a heavier duty tire you would need a load...

  • Recommended 8" Tire With load Range D Rating For Wheels With 4.80-8 Tires Currently Installed
I would be happy to help! Since you mentioned that your wheels have the 4.80-8 tires installed they are going to be too narrow to run the 205-60-8 tires you were looking at. Instead I recommend going with the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire - 5.70-8 - Load Range D # AM10013 which have a load rating of 1075lbs at 100 PSI so they are rated high enough for your Jet Ski Trailer, but you will need to verify the load rating of your wheels and use the lower rating between the wheels and tires....

  • Benefits of Upgrading to Higher Load Range Tires on Trailer
As you mentioned in your question, upgrading to higher load range tires on your trailer is not going to increase the weight capacity of the trailer itself. However, a higher-rated tire will have the benefit of running a bit cooler when compared to what you currently have mounted. Trailer tire failure is usually caused by excessive heat and the best way to prevent this is by observing the tires' rated weight capacity, speed rating and psi pressure. Using a tire that can handle more weight...

  • Can I Upgrade from a 4.800/4.00-8 Tire to a 5.7/8-8 Tire on a Time Out Tent Trailer
You can upgrade to a higher rated tire but the overall diameter will go up 2 inches and typically will end up also have a wider section width. If your trailer can accommodate the larger diameter and width then this is a possible solution for your trailer. Both the 4.80/4.00-8 and the 5.7/8-8 tires will fit a 3-3/4 inch rim width, so a tire like # AM10013 with a load range of D will have an overall diameter of 18 inches when fully inflated and have a section width of 5.8 inches. The Kenda tire offered with the 8 inch wheel, part # AM30153 is the same tire as part # AM10013. These are both Load Range D Bias-ply tires that have a load capacity of 1,075 lbs at 100 psi. I called my contact at Kenda and they told me the Kenda tires are all rated at 65 mph maximum. The AM30153 includes the 8 inch wheel with a 4 on 4 bolt pattern and with a pilot diameter of 2.5 inches.

  • What Size Wheel Does Trailer Tire Size 5.70-8 Fit
The tire size you need is a 5.70-8 like the part # AM10013 that you referenced. The wheel diameter difference that you mentioned is because you are measuring the mounting flange as well which does not factor in terms of actual wheel diameter and it is an inch tall total. So basically if you were to measure a trailer wheel you would need to subtract an inch from overall diameter to get correct diameter.

  • What Valve Stem Will Fit The 8" Steel Trailer Wheel # AM20016 And Is Safe To Use Up To 100psi?
The Steel Trailer Wheel # AM20016 has a 0.453" diameter opening for a valve stem. Since you need up to 100psi I recommend using the Metal, Bolt-In Valve Stem # AM20906. This stem being metal is less likely to become damaged like rubber valve stems. The 5.70-8 Tires # AM10010(B), # AM10012(C) and # AM10013(D) we carry do require a 8" x 3-3/4" Wheel # AM20006. The only 5.70 x 8 sized tire we carry that is a Load Range D is the Kenda K353 # AM10013. It's a bias tire with a maximum capacity of 1,075 at 100 psi. The maximum speed rating on this tire is 65 mph. I don't know what your current tires are rated for but they might say somewhere on the tire's sidewall. You will want to stay within the speed rating. Exceeding it will cause the tire to heat up more than it should which can cause the tire to fail. Radial tires are generally better for...

A 4.80/4.00-8 and a 5.70-8 tire like the # AM10012 you've looked at are both usually mounted on a 3-3/4 inch wide wheel. The difference between the two tires is that the 5.70-8 is 2 inches larger in diameter than a 4.80/4.00-8 tire (19.1 vs 16.1 inches in diameter) and the 5.70-8 is available in a B (715 lbs), C (910 lbs) or D (1075 lbs) weight rating while the 4.80/4.00-8 is available in a load...

Unfortunately there aren't any 10" wheels with an offset to give you enough clearance. • Tire Replacement Recommendation for a 5.70-8 Trailer Tire
The 5.70-8 size tire you have on your trailer is pretty small in width and in diameter, so without knowing what clearance you have available on your trailer it would be hard to say for certain what the biggest size you could fit. The best recommendation I could make would be to go with the Load Range D in your current size and be sure to keep it inflated to it's max psi. For the tire only you would want the part # AM10013. You would need to keep 100 psi in this tire.

Therefore, the new tire will be 3.6" taller x .5" narrower than the one you have now. You only need to account for half of each measurement for clearance. • Is Larger 5.70-8 Trailer Tire a Better Option to Replace 4.80-8
A larger trailer tire basically wins in every category like you mentioned. Less rolling resistance, less affected by bumps in road for smoother ride quality, and bearings/hub spins less so in theory less wear and tear. So as long as you have room for a larger size it's a great idea. The difference between the two size of 4.80 and 5.70 is two inches of overall diameter. This translates into one less inch of fender clearance since the diameter of a tire is split on either side of the spindle....

The 5.70/5.00-8 is the same as our Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire; part # AM10010 for load range b, part # AM10012 for load range c, or part # AM10013 for load range d. Therefore, these are what I recommend for replacement. They have bias plies so they will be great for off-road use and they come with a five year warranty. They will work great with your existing wheels so there's no need to upgrade these also.
