Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Nice fresh rubber and larger diameter than the dry rotted tires I removed. Date code on tires less than 6 months old. Installed with two tire spoons and a lot of soap. As ever fast shipping, good prices and excellent service from etrailer.

Tires show no signs of age. They hold air great. As good as the day I installed them. Good product.

by:

Exactly what I needed at a very reasonable price.

by:

I was operating only 50% due to the fact that one of my tires (dollies) blew up in my business that means loosing money thanks to ETrailer.com I'm back 100% and save some money in the process

by:

Purchased these tires a year ago, and they are still in good shape. I have made several (at least 3) 350 miles each way trips down south to go fishing. As well as countless local fishing trips. I will repeat buy if these ever show signs of replacement. Thanks etrailer

still rolling strong !

I made a power wheelchair into a toy. These were the biggest tires I could find for an 8" wheel. With a tube, I'm able to air down to just a few PSI which makes it bounce over larger obstacles. No, my review of the tire doesn't mean anything to you, but etrailer.com sent them right away and had the best price I could find so hopefully that help you choose the right retailer. Thanks etrailer.com

Being in the marine industry I do a lot of work on old boats and trailers. etrailer is my favorite place to get the stuff I need. They always seem to have what I want and the service is fast. This set of replacement tires was odd sized but correct, in stock, a great price, and arrived quickly.

by:

Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable, couldn't find any better prices, largest sleection.

by:

The old Kendra tires on my utility trailer had plenty of tread, but lots of sidewall cracks due to ~ 10 years of UV sunlight damage. If I get ten years out of the new Kendra's, I'll be very satisfied. . . . Why doesn't someone come up with a built-in "sunscreen" for tires?

by:

Excellent tires just a pain to mount. Tire spoons don’t work - screwdrivers. If I knew the difficulties, I would have just bought the tire rim combo.
Also, living I suburbs - not many people know how change tires.
I got these on my trailer and then reAlized I had to repack the bearings on the hubs.
A whole other skill set I am glad I knew how to do.

by:

Quick delivery. Perfect fit!

by:

Great product, excellent service. Would highly recommend etrailer to all my friends and family for parts and know how.

  • What Does 5.70 and 8 Mean On a 5.70-8 Trailer Tire
In regards to a 5.70-8 tire, the 5.70 represents the width of the tire which is 5.7" wide and the 8 represents the diameter of the wheel the tire is designed to fit which is 8" diameter. If you are needing a replacement, the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire is what I recommend and is offered in a load range B part # AM10010, load range c part # AM10012, and load range d part # AM10013. Assuming you have clearance, there are a few other options for tire sizes that will fit an 8" diameter which...

  • Smallest Diameter Radial Trailer Tire With a 5 on 4-1/2 Wheel Bolt Pattern
The Taskmaster 4.80R12 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 12" White Spoke Wheel # TA98RR is going to be the smallest radial tire in diameter to the 5.7-8" # AM10010. The 4.80R12 is 20.63" in diameter and 4.84" wide compared to the 5.7-8 which is 18.1" in diameter and 5.8" wide. You will need to ensure the additional 2.53" in diameter will not be an issue for your trailer.

  • Going With Larger Wheel and Tires on a Tear Drop Trailer
I would first recommend that you check to see how much clearance your current tires have. This will help you determine if you can fit any larger tires without modifying the fenders or suspension. I like to have at least 1" of clearance throughout the suspension travel. I have included measurements for your tires below with a couple options to allow you to see what is available that may require little to no modification. 4.80/4.00-8 # AM30040 -Width- 4.7" -Height- 16.1" 5.70-8 # AM10010 -Width-...

  • What Valve Stem Will Fit The 8" Steel Trailer Wheel # AM20016 And Is Safe To Use Up To 100psi?
The Steel Trailer Wheel # AM20016 has a 0.453" diameter opening for a valve stem. Since you need up to 100psi I recommend using the Metal, Bolt-In Valve Stem # AM20906. This stem being metal is less likely to become damaged like rubber valve stems. The 5.70-8 Tires # AM10010(B), # AM10012(C) and # AM10013(D) we carry do require a 8" x 3-3/4" Wheel # AM20006. Other tire manufacturers may allow this same size tire to fit the wider wheel but I do not have a way to verify with every tire...

  • Can Trailers Tires with 2 Different Load Ranges be Used Together
What you have are 2 tires in the same size but with different load ranges. Any given tire size can have more than one load range. The new one you bought is likely a load range B and the other one on the trailer is likely a load range C. The higher load range means that it has a higher ply rating and more material internally to reach the higher rating. It also takes more air pressure than a lower load range. What will happen is that you will have uneven tire wear, possible tracking/ride...

  • 4.00 x 8C Kenda K371 Bias Trailer Tire Recommendation
4.00 x 8 and 4.80 tires are the same size. For your trailer you would want a Kenda K371 Bias Trailer Tire, # AM10004, this should work very well for you since it is the same size tire as what you have now and it is a load range C tire. Its always a good idea to replace trailer tires in pairs on an axle to ensure that you get the same overall tire height for both sides of the trailer. This will keep the trailer as level as possible. There will be tire height variances between tire companies...

  • Recommendations for Air Pressure and Highway Speeds on a 4.80-8 and 5.70-8 Trailer Tire
I would always recommend to inflate the air pressure on the trailer tires to the psi that is indicated on the sidewall of the tire. If you reduce the air pressure you will be reducing the weight that the tire will be able to carry. Trailer tires are rated for maximum load and should be inflated as instructed on the sidewall. When the trailer manufacturer designs that trailer they choose a tire size and load range that can handle the maximum weight capacity of that trailer. All trailer...

  • Recommended Replacement for 5.70/5.00-8 Tractor Tires
The 5.70/5.00-8 is the same as our Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire; part # AM10010 for load range b, part # AM10012 for load range c, or part # AM10013 for load range d. Therefore, these are what I recommend for replacement. They have bias plies so they will be great for off-road use and they come with a five year warranty. They will work great with your existing wheels so there's no need to upgrade these also.

  • Taller Tire Size Recommendation to Replace 4.80-8 Trailer Tire
For a tire size that is 2 inches taller than your 4.80-8 tire size that will still fit your current rims you would want the 5.70-8 size tire like the part # AM10013 that has a capacity of 1,075 lbs at 100 psi. For a lower capacity tire that doesn't require nearly as much tire pressure we have the part # AM10010 which has a capacity of 715 lbs at 50 psi.

  • Replacement 8 Inch Tires For Boat Trailer
The reason people go with larger tires is generally for the higher weight capacity; that's really the only pro to it, though with an aluminum Jon boat and small motor, I can't imagine the higher weight capacity would be a positive for your situation. In fact, it may be a con, as your trailer may bounce due to the higher pressure needed to fill a larger tire and not enough weight being on the tire. So I do recommend sticking with your 8 inch tires, unless you need a higher capacity than...

There are a pair of size 5.70-8 trailer tires, and you only need to choose from the load rating (which is per tire) you need, which should be equivalent to or greater than your trailer's GVWR. - Load Range B - 715 lbs: Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire # AM10010 - Load Range C - 910 lbs: Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire # AM10012 I have added...

If you replace both the wheel and tire you could go to a 215/60-8 part # AM3H310 or part # AM3H290 which is 8.9" wide and will be 4.3" wider than the 4.80/4.00-8 tire you have now.

The speed rating for trailer tires does not increase from 65 mph until you get to 12" diameter wheels which you are not going to be able to fit on your camper as is.
