Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

the tires are good so far, i have 4 of them on a little dump trailer i designed and have carried 3000 lbs of 3/4" stone (just over a yard), so i'm happy.
the tires i started out with were just golf cart tires and were iffy with this kind of a load and these are rated more for the kind of weight i can carry and dump. here are some pics... i have a video of it dumping 3000 lbs at

Bought two tires and rims for my snowmobile trailer. Great tires and great price. Fast delivery,

by:

Great trailer tire for the price!
The
tires come VERY compressed and even after a few days in the sun, they didn’t relax so I used 2 ratchet straps to get the tires to take shape enough to get beads to set.

by:

Ordered two Loadstar K399 215/60-8 load range C for my snowmobile trailer. My old tires were 5 years old and starting to cup bad so I thought I’d put a no set of tires on before winter. I received free shipping and tires arrive within a reasonable time. Local tire shop put tires on my galvanized rims that I also purchased from E-trailer. Very happy with the quality of service I receive from E-trailer! From start to finish!! Gold Star

by:

These are the best tires I can find for the golf carts used by our security staff. They are driven on asphalt a lot and regular golf cart turf tires wear out very quickly. These DOT trailer tires fit great and last a lot longer.

by:

Great service very helpful over the phone and they made sure I was getting the right tires for my use and the right size rims for my trailer. My experience after installing new tires and rims on my snowmobile trailer I no longer had the vibration I was feeling while towing so the new tires made a tremendous difference in how it towed the trailer. Thanks again for your assistance

by:

Order was shipped quickly and received on the date stated. Great low price.

Product is still in great shape after one year of use. Was able to pull my sleds everywhere last year.

by:

The golf cart tires are exactly what I wanted. I replaced with exactly the same tire which I had on the cart for 16 years. The service and ordering process was very prompt. Thanks for a great product.

by:

Super easy to deal with. Delivery was faster than I expected which was a great surprise. I will definitely use trailer e trailer again.

by:

Good price, quality product & super fast delivery

by:

We bought a set of these mounted on wheels for a manlift. Excellent tires with a great load rating. Sliced one running over metal. Called and talked to Teresa who was great. She got a tire on the way. Once again etrailer was great. Probably start using these tires on our golf carts too. Thanks again Teresa!

I will definitely purchase from this same distributor the next time a need more tires. I also called the distributor and they were very helpful in answering any questions.

by:

Tires arrive in great condition and worked perfectly for my 5' X 8' Triton Trailer.

by:

I needed to bring an old trailer back to life. These tires were the perfect replacement to the dry-rotted tires on my ATV trailer.

by:

PERFECT TIRES FOR MY APPLICATION AND FAST DELIVERY. ALSO CUSTOMER SERVICE IS GREAT, WE HAD AN INCIDENT WITH FIRST ORDER, BECAUSE BOX CAM OPEN AND UPS LOST 1 OF THE 2 TIRES. I INFORMED THEM AND THEY SENT OUT THE OTHER TIRE SAME DAY.

by:

Very Happy with Customer Service and followup. hard to find anymore

  • What is Correct Replacement Trailer Tire for Older Size 18.5 x 8.5-8
The trailer tire size you referenced, 18.5 x 8.5-8, has a modern metric equivalent, which is size 215/60-8. This tire size fits rims that are 7-inches wide and when mounted and inflated the tire's overall diameter will be just over 18-inches. The linked article offers more information on tire sizes. In this 215/60-8 size we offer both tires on their own and tires that are pre-mounted on wheels. If you wish to order just the tire itself without a wheel you can select from two options that...

  • Recommended Tires And Wheels To Replace 18.5/8.5-8 Tires On Triton Trailer
The tire size you can use as a replacement for your triton trailer is a 215/60-8. If you want just the tire, I recommend part # AM1HP28 which is a Load Range D tire. This 8-ply tire has a load capacity of 1,165 lbs at 70 psi. For a Load Range C tire only I recommend part # AM1HP26. This is a 6-ply tire and has a maximum load rating of 935 lbs at 50 psi. Both of these tires are bias-ply tires and will work on the rims you have for your tires. If you are looking for a wheel/tire combo...

To answer your question on the exact load rating tires I would need to know the weight of the trailer along with any additional cargo carried with the Jet skis. The Loadstar 215/60-8 K399 Bias Trailer Tire # AM1HP26 is the replacement size we have for your 18.5x8.5-8. This tire is a load range C rated for 935lbs per tire. For a load range C, rated for 1,820 pounds at 50 psi, use # AM10244. And for a load range D rated for 2,150 pounds at 50 psi use # AM10245. • Comparing 215/60-8 Tires to 18.5/8.5-8 Tires for Height and Width
The 215/60-8 tires like # AM1HP26 should have a diameter of 18.2 inches and a width of 8.5 inches so they should be the same width and yet slightly smaller diameter. If you just go by the definitions these tires should be really similar with the 18.5/8.5-8. There is some variance in sizes depending on manufacturer as some take more liberties than others for instance the Kenda 215/60-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D # AM3H323 has an outer diameter of...

We do have trailer tires that will fit your Triton Snowmobile trailer. Check out the Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire, # AM1HP26. This is a tubeless, bias trailer tire that exceeds DOT standards. Its size is 215/60-8 which is the same as 18.5x8.5-8. The Kenda K371 Bias Trailer Tire, # AM10004, tire that you have referenced is too small for your trailer rims.

To prevent blowout, the higher load range which includes the higher ply rating is better. It will have a stronger sidewall. The Kenda # AM1HP26 with load range C (6 ply) is rated for 935 lbs at 50 psi and the Kenda # AM1HP28 load range D (8 ply) is rated at 1,165 at 70 psi. With your concern about...

  • Best Trailer Tire Recommendation for Size ST205/75-15
The best tire for your trailer in the same size that you have is the part # AM10245. This is the highest capacity tire we offer in that size. It is a Load Range D with 2,150 lbs at 65 psi capacity. Your current tire is a bias-ply. I can tell by the letter D in the size. The # AM10245 is a radial which will be a better overall tire. A radial tire flexes more than a bias tire, giving it better ground contact, traction, stability, and tread wear. A radial tire will normally run cooler...

  • Are Loadstar K399 Trailer Tires Rounder than Other Tire Options
We've sold quite a few of the Loadstar K399 trailer tires part # AM1HP26 and haven't had any issues with them being out of round. While the DOT approval is great it doesn't really reflect anything regarding roundness. Trailer tires probably are made with quite as much quality control as vehicle tires but you shouldn't have any out of round issues with them.

  • Can Trailer Tires Be Balanced
Trailer tires do not have to be balanced but what is normally done when a tire and wheel combo is put together by the manufacturer is a sort of balancing. They take the heavy spot on the tire and line it up with the light spot on the wheel. The problem with balancing trailer tires is that it takes special equipment beyond what most tire shops have available. It takes a special rig to balance trailer tires and trying to balance them the same as vehicle tires will not work.

  • Substituting 215/60-8 Trailer Tires for 18x8.5x8 Tires on Golf Cart
Since a golf cart typically weighs quite a bit less than a loaded trailer, going with a 215/60-8 tire like part # AM1HP26 will give you a total weight capacity of 3740 lbs. Overkill? Probably. It also means that you'll get longer life out of the tires. The slightly more aggressive tread of the # AM1HP26 will also contribute to longer tire life. If you're needing the wheel/tire combo, we offer the wheels in a 4 on 4 or 5 on 4-1/2 wheel bolt pattern. If you're unsure of your current wheel...

  • Can Replacement Trailer Tires Be Filled With Foam
Filling tires with foam is a fairly common practice for farm or agricultural use, but our tire expert tells me that it's not a recommended practice for trailers that will be operated on paved roads. Once the foam is added to the tire, you've removed most of the flexibility of the tire which can cause a rougher ride, the vibrations from the rougher ride can be transferred to the tow vehicle. In some cases, the foam can deteriorate the inner liner of the tire. If your trailer has brakes,...
