Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

by:

Very good product, very well packaged! Arrived very quickly with the customer down time in mind! Thanks! Well done!

by:

Easy to order and came very quickly. Will use etrailer next time also.

by:

It was a pleasure to do business with etrailer.com. I ordered the tires on a Monday and they were delivered on a Wednesday. How can you beat that!!

by:

Thanks! I think it was the best purchase I've ever made. They are already mounted on the rings and full of air. The tires held up 70 pounds of air.

by:

Nice tires and good value

by:

After 1year, these show very little wear. They track well, and take abuse associated with OHV and snowmobile towing. The D load rating gives me some peace of mind when pushing trailer load limits, and are quiet to boot.

by:

I bought these tires to mount on hubs i had bought from etrailer and they were high quality and fit the hubs perfectly. The company site made it easy to order with its info
on a recommended match between the hub and tire. Also i wanted a heavy more substantial tire crossed over from and old tire to a new heavier tire number. the crossover worked perfectly. I'm totally satisfied with this company and its products and will buy parts here again.

by:

I have owned these tires for i year now and they still look new. I would buy these again !!

by:

Great looking tires arrived quickly.

by:

Fast service good pricing, good selecti on.

by:

Ordered a set of these based on other recommendations that they were a good replacement option for an old trailer with 18.5x8.5-8 tires. They fit great and the shipping was fast!

by:

I have purchased items from etrailer.com before, as always the product is exactly what is advertised. My Loadstar K399 tires were ordered on Sunday and delivered one day ahead of schedule.

by:

This is my second order from etrailer.com. Both transactions were flawless. Easy to find the right tire, order shipped immediately, order delivered ahead of schedule!

by:

Just got them on the golf cart we use here to run around the ranch. worked great. time will tell how well they hold up to cactus and mesquite thorns.

by:

Exactly what we needed, quick delivery

by:

Order Shipped Quickly. Great protective packaging! High Quality Tires and Rims for my Quad Trailer.

by:

Arrived, packaged well, installed on my rims. Tires look as good as in pictures. Will install on trailer soon, look for another review.

by:

Haven't put the tires on the rims but look good. Came quick and best price around. Thanks again, ill keep ordering from you!

  • Need Stiffer Tires to Replace Kenda 18.5 x 8.5 x 8 6 Ply Tires
The obsolete tire size of 18.5 x 8.5 x 8 translates to the current tire size of 215/60-8. The Loadstar K399 215/60-8 Bias Trailer Tire, # AM1HP28, has a ply rating of 8, load range D, and maximum load capacity of 1,165 pounds. Load Range D is the highest load range that we offer for the 215/60-8 tire size.

  • Replacement Trailer Tire Recommendation for a 18.5x8.5-8 Tire
The 18.5x8.5-8 is actually an old tire size that is not used much anymore. The closest metric size to your existing tire would be 215/60-8, which is what I would recommend. The 4.80-8 tire size that you are interested in is designed to fit 3-3/4 inch wide rims, whereas the 215-60-8 that is close to what you have currently is designed to fit 7 inch wide rims so I do not think a 4.80-8 would install on your rim. Plus the fact that the 4.80-8 has much lower capacity than the 215/60-8 tire...

  • Rim and Tire Recommendation to Replace a 215/60-8 That is Too Wide on a 2k Capacity Trailer
A 4.80-8 trailer tire size is going to have a max capacity of 760 lbs when inflated to 90 psi per tire. So not only would it not have enough capacity it would be too skinny to fit the wider rim you have for your 215/60-8 tires. Another option you have that would provide you with a skinnier tire that would also be 3 inches taller would be to go with a 5.30-12 rim and tire like the part # AM30859. This rim has a 5 on 4 inch bolt pattern. If you have a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern you would...

  • Recommended Replacement Tire for 5.70 x 8 Tire
The outer diameter of a 5.70 x 8 tire and wheel is 18.1 inches, same as the tire, # AM1HP28 which you reference. However, a 5.70-8 fits on a 3-3/4 inch wide rim while # AM1HP28 fits on 7" rims. That 3-3/4 inch difference is quite a bit. When the tire is on the rim the larger size will be nearly 8.5 inches wide compared to 5.7 inches on the smaller size. You will need to make sure that you have about 3 inches of space between the trailer frame and the back of the 5.70-8 to go to the larger...

  • Is There a 215/60-8 Load Range D Bias Trailer Tire & White Wheel With 4 on 4 Bolt Pattern
There is an option for a 215/60-8 load range D bias trailer tire and 8" white wheel with a 4 on 4" bolt pattern, but they come separate so you'd need to get the tire mounted to the wheel. The correct parts for this are the following: - Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire - 215/60-8 - Load Range D # AM1HP28 - Steel Trailer Wheel - 8" x 7" Rim - 4 on 4 - White # AM20021 Then for the valve stem you will need the Americana High Pressure Rubber Snap-In Valve Stem # AM20904. • Troubleshooting Trailer Tires that Blow Out
There are a few reasons trailer tires fail. The most common is that they are overloaded. You need to check the capacity of your tires (and trailer) and be sure you are not exceeding their capacities. The highest rated tire we have the in the size you need is the part # AM1HP28 as it has a 1,165 capacity when inflated to 70 psi. Ply rating is another way of stating the capacity for a tire. As long as the tire has the capacity needed you won't need to worry about the ply rating. Another...

  • Will an ST215/60-8 Trailer Tire Replace a 5.70 x 8 Tire
Most trailer wheels have a zero offset but backspacing is going to be different amongst different rim sizes and widths. a 215/60-8 tire will have an overall diameter of 18.3 inches. a 5.70-8 has an overall diameter of 18.1 inches so there is not much difference there. The rim width is the big difference. a 5.70-8 fits on a 3-3/4 inch wide rim while a 215/60-8 fits a 7 inch. That 3-3/14 inch difference is quite a bit. When the tire is on the rim the larger size will be nearly 8.5 inches...

This tire size fits rims that are 7-inches wide and when mounted and inflated the tire's overall diameter will be just over 18-inches. The linked article offers more information on tire sizes. • Trailer Has Loud and Excessive Vibrations Loaded or Not Loaded
Trailer tires typically do not get balanced because manufacturers tend to match the heavy spot on the tire with the light spot on the wheel. It takes a special rig to balance trailer tires, equipment that not many tire shops have anymore. The other issue is that the trailer tires we carry are rated for 65 miles per hour at most and a lot of other trailer tires are rated lower. I recommend checking the tire sidewalls to see if they have a speed rating. Staying under 70 miles per hour would...
