Our family has been in the classic car business since 1969.....I have chained a trailer hitch on the back bumper many times and headed out for California...very recently my sister bought a vending route along with a 1 ton van....she bought a new trailer hitch somewhere and wanted me to drill holes in the frame because it wasn't the correct one...I found etrailer online and called...the product was here overnight and Suz installed it herself!!.....I highly recommend etrailer..... thank Katie D!

1998 Ford Edge

Love the video. It was a great help in installing this hitch. Very easy to follow. Nice tip with the silicone adhesive to hold the washers in place. The receiver edge sits back under my bumper about 5 in. Unfortunately a little bit farther back than my previous hitch so I have to buy new ball mounts now. Would have been nice if the hitch had been designed to angle back to end up at the edge of the bumper. There are not very many ball mount options for where it sits.
But I found what I needed. The hitch is on and looks sturdy. And soon I'll be able to tow again once I receive the ball mounts from etrailer.com

1998 Ford Five Hundred

This hitch receiver works as it should. It came well finished, with clear instructions and all the hardware needed to install it. I had a question about possible clearance issues and called etrailer customer support. The tech was great and answered all of my questions. The hitch receiver fit great, no additional drilling was needed. I also was able to reinstall my spare tire under the van, which my older hitch receiver did not allow enough space for.

I have a step bumper on my 1998 Ford E350 van. I was going to use if for my hitch mounted tilt up, cargo carrier, with a 500 pound capacity. This hitch receiver sets back a couple inches too far from the step bumper and would not allow the cargo carrier to tilt up, unless I used a hitch extension. I used an 8" extension with a 5k tow and 500 pound tongue capacity. Using a hitch extension will decrease your load capacity. So, make sure the hitch extension is capable of handling the load you will be putting on it.

Excellant Product good value

The Curt products I received are as described, high quality and were well packed. The hitch fits the 27-year-old vehicle. I was glad to have such a large range of products across different brands, and the prices were the best I found. The shipment of hitch receiver, ball mount, ball, etc., got here just a few days after I ordered it. I didn't expect such fast shipping. I will recommend etrailer.

  • Difference Between Curt Hitch # 14053 and # 14055
The main difference is that Curt Hitch # 14053 during the installation process the spare tire will have to be lowered or removed temporarily. The Curt Hitch # 14055 does not require that step. Both hitches have a bolt on installation and have a gloss black powder coated finish that is over a protective base that offers superior rust resistance. Both hitches also have a 10,000 pound maximum gross trailer towing weight and 1,000 pounds maximum tongue weight. Out of the two I would recommend...

  • Mounting Hole Dimensions for the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 14053
The mounting holes the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 14053 measure 38-1/4" (for the 4 rearmost) and 38-3/4" (for the 1 forward-most) and then from the edge of the receiver that measurement is either 4-1/2" or 17-3/4" depending on what you meant by most rearword (as that term is kind of backwards when it come to trailer hitches). I have attached a photo demonstrating these various dimensions for you to check out. Please note that this trailer hitch is designed to fit the following vehicles: 2004...

  • Will Curt 14053 Class IV Hitch Fit 1990 Ford E350 Cutaway Chassis Shuttle Bus
Possibly. The Curt # 14053 Class IV hitch could fit, but it would depend on the vertical height difference between the underside of the van's frame and the lowest portion of the back bumper, which is also known as the drop. You'll need to measure downward from the underside of the van's frame until you clear the bumper. If this distance is less than 2 inches, the Curt # 14053 would fit. If the drop distance is 2 inches or greater, you'll need to go with a weld-on hitch like the Draw-Tite...

  • Distance Between Mounting Holes of the Curt Hitch 14053
I spoke with my contact at Curt and he informed me that the distance between the bolt holes centers on this Curt Class IV Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # 14053, is 38-1/2 inches. You would need to compare that distance to the your frame rails to see if the mounting holes of this hitch would be compatible with your frame. If your outside to outside measurement is 42 inches this SHOULD work well, but I would still recommend measuring.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch and Towing Accessories for 1995 Ford E150 Econoline Van
The best hitch for you will depend on what you're planning on using it for and what kind of weight you'll be towing. For a basic Class III hitch with a 5000 Gross Trailer Weight/Gross Tongue Weight, the Curt # 13053 would be recommended. For a higher capacity of 10,000 GTW/1000 TW, the Curt Class IV hitch, part # 14053 would be an excellent choice. There are other hitch alternatives like the Draw-Tite # 75703 you mentioned that are a bit more expensive, but Curt manufactures an excellent...

  • Heaviest Duty Trailer Hitch Recevier for Motorhome on 1999 Ford E-350 Super Duty Chassis
We have the exact hitch you need for your motorhome on a 1999 Ford E-350 Super Duty chassis, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 14053. This has the 10,000 lb towing capacity and 1,000 lb tongue weight capacity you wanted (the most available), and it does not have to be welded on. The installation will require you to drill small holes in the frame (all hitches that fit your motorhome will) and this will let you bolt the hitch right on. This hardware kit includes steel spacers which go between the frame and the hitch. These allow the hitch it be installed without interference from the rivets. • Trailer Hitch Fit for 1998 Ford E-350 Van
We do have a trailer hitch for you, though the Ford E-350 didn't have a Super Duty version available until 1999, so what you have is an Econoline model (and just as a note, we don't have a way of searching anything by VIN so this was based on research; you may want to call that VIN into a local Ford dealer). Having said that, the correct trailer hitch receiver for a 1998 Ford E-350 Econoline is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 14053. Additionally, if you plan on towing and need a trailer...

  • High Capacity Trailer Hitch, Brake Controller and Wiring Recommendation for 1998 Ford Van
For your 1998 Ford F-350 we have the Curt hitch part # 14053 which has a 10k capacity that would work well. For trailer wiring you will need to start with a 4-way (if you do not have one). For that you would want the # 118344. From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for this product...

The length of the mounting brackets for the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 14053 is 15-1/8" as you can see from the attached photo. Since the frame is extended past the regular body length it could very well affect the towing capacity of your motorhome so it would be wise to do some research on that and maybe reach out to the manufacturer as well to get their take on it. If you don't have bolt holes readily available that would work with the 14053 hitch then you may consider using something...

  • Hitch Recommendation For A 1999 Ford E450 Shuttle Bus
Looking to the towing section of the owners manual for the 1999 Ford e450, though it never specifically calls out the e450 model in the Trailer Towing Table, for every model with a 7.3 Diesel and 4.10 rear axle ratio, the maximum GCWR is around 20,000lbs and trailer weight of 9,500-10,000lbs. As long as your bike weighs in at 35 lbs or less, the Hollywood Racks Gordo 2 bike carrier # HRG2 that you looked at would work well, as your motorhome retains the rear doors used on the van model. The rack will hold the bike tightly, and if properly adjusted the rack won't move on the vehicle. I've linked to a demonstration video featuring the rack.
