Which Ball Mount Can be Used With Curt Trailer Hitch # 14053 for a 1998 Ford Econoline 250
Question:
I have a 98 ford 250 Econoline Van with a factory step down bumper. What length ball mount do I need with this hitch

The recommended ball mount for Curt Trailer Hitch # 14053 for the 1998 Ford Econoline Van is # 2923. However, for your specific needs you may need a longer ball mount or one with a different rise/drop. In order to determine the rise or drop you will need there is a simple method you can use.
With the hitch installed and the van and trailer on level ground, measure from the ground to the top of the receiver opening. Then measure from the ground to the bottom of the trailer coupler (with the trailer level). The difference between these 2 measurements is the rise or drop you will need.
To determine if a longer ball mount is needed, with the hitch installed measure from the center of the hitch pin hole out to the distance required to clear the rear bumper. If that distance is less than 8 inches, then # AMSC2 will work well. If not, take a look at our extra long and super extra long ball mounts instead.
