The Curt trailer hitch # 14053 will fit on your 1997 Ford Clubwagon with the factory step bumper. The spare tire will need to be temporarily removed to install the hitch and then put back in place, or further forward if needed, after installation. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you.
Because your van has a step bumper, you may need a longer ball mount. To determine if a longer ball mount is needed, with the hitch installed measure from the center of the hitch pin hole out to the distance required to clear the rear bumper. If that distance is less than 8 inches, then # 40330 will work well.
If longer ball mount is needed, you can use # BM20 which measures 13-1/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole.
For a 2 inch ball use # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball use # 19286. For a pin and clip use # PC3. And for trailer wiring if needed use # 118344. I have included a link to the wiring instructions as well.
