Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer, and today we're taking a look at the CURT Trailer Hitch Ball Mount with a two and 5/16 ball or a two-inch hitch. Now this ball mount will give you a six-inch drop, like we have in our configuration here. And that's gonna give you some solid towing capacities with a gross trailer weight rating coming in at 7,500 pounds. So that's gonna be the weight of the trailer plus the accessories on it. You also have a tongue weight rating of 750 pounds, and that's gonna be the pressure that's put down on the ball mount. Now it can also be put in a rise position, and that's gonna give you a four-inch rise.

You are gonna have to re-torque your ball, but you just flip this over, undo this, torque the ball back down, and you do need to actually check the weight capacities on that as it does lower in the rise position. In fact, in the four-inch rise, we're gonna get a 6,000 pound gross trailer weight rating and a 600 pound tongue weight. The ball does come included, comes pre-torqued, so you don't have to worry about torquing it down if you're gonna be in that drop position. And it's gonna be rated at 7,500 pounds, so that's gonna be great for a pretty high capacity on a vehicle like this. Also included is a pin and clip, so that makes it easy.

Once you get this in the mail, you can simply put it in your vehicle, hook up to your trailer, and you should be good to go. Now if you ever want to upgrade to a locking pin and clip, you are gonna wanna pick up a 5/8 pin and clip, and that way you can leave the ball mount on the vehicle locked in place, and no one's gonna walk away with it. Now something you'll want to do on your vehicle is make sure that you have clearance for the coupler of a trailer to get onto the ball without causing any issues with your fascia or your bumper. And this measuring from the center of the hitch-pin to the center of the shank diameter is gonna be nine and a quarter inches. So it puts it out far enough on our Hummer today to make it nice and easy to hook up.

The steel construction is heavy duty, but you do have a hollow shank so it makes it a little bit lighter, which is nice. So that way if you're not using your ball mount, you can store it in your vehicle and it cuts down on the weight a little bit. And you also have a chrome ball here so that's gonna hold up just like the powder coat finish to the extremes of weather. That way you can leave it on your vehicle and it's gonna look nice for a long time. Now, even though you have a two and 5/16 ball included and already torqued down, you're not limited to just this size.

If you ever swap trailers or you need to use a two inch or a one and 7/8 ball, you can definitely put that on this ball mount and it's still gonna work. You are gonna have to torque those down. And when choosing a ball, you're gonna wanna make sure you have a one-inch diameter and that way it works with this mount. So this is gonna be a great option for some of your enclosed trailers or campers. Just that anything that has that two and 5/16 ball. Now keep in mind, you are gonna want to also check the weight of the trailer, the hitch at what it's rated at, and also what the vehicle's rated at towing, and take the lowest of those numbers that way you're not overloading anything during your towing experience and you stay safe. And that was a look at the CURT Trailer Hitch Ball Mount with two and 5/16 ball or two-inch hitch.

Box had a hole in it where hitch ball came through. Other than a couple of scratches there was no damage. Maybe how you ship might need to change. Thanks

I purchased Curt's 6" drop ball mount for my 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sport which is not lifted but has 32" tall tires. The utility trailer I plan to purchase recommends a 12" tongue/ball height for level towing. The Curt 6" drop ball mount places my tongue/ball height at 13.5" which is acceptable. The bottom of my tow ball mounting nut is now 12" above the road surface. Plenty of clearance for safe towing. I'm very pleased with the quality and functionality of my Curt ball mount. I'm looking forward to purchasing a utility trailer soon. I think it will tow very nicely using my Curt 6" drop ball hitch.

The hitch and ball mount are excellent quality. My concerns are twofold. The hitch is so heavy that I had to take it to my mechanic to have it installed. Minor cost and inconvenience, but the hitch for my previous F-150 was just as sturdy, but easy to install myself (albeit with higher ground clearance). My concern about the ball mount is that the factory told me erroneously that it could not be reversed for a drop, so I returned it. This order is for the replacement after I was finally correctly told it could be reversed and how to do that. Ball mount would have been a 3 for that reason, and overall hitch and ball mount quality a 5. So I averaged them.

Good heavy Hitch

My order was missing installation parts, but the etrailer team were quick to correct the issue.

Even without a lift, I was able to install the receiver and brake light cable quickly, thanks to their extensive video libray.

Just your basic ball mount, the product is just like most 2” Hitch ball mounts, the service wasn’t very good though.
Ordered on June 15th (product was in stock) took them 6 days to send it out, took another 6 days in shipping and got all the way to my post office two days before leaving on vacation (I needed it for the vacation) and the post office said “box was empty and they notified seller” etrailer sent a new one (got here a week after my vacation) in a damaged box (packaging is horrible, little bit of paper in a box with a 5 lbs ball mount) almost lost this one too.
I don’t believe I’ll be using etrailer in the future (had issues before)

by:

I bought this on my knowledgeable brother's advice - he gave me the exact order number and link to buy from etrailer! I had it installed locally, without complications. I use my truck mostly to haul my horse or my friend's two donkeys in my 14-foot stock trailer. I have no complaints, the hitch does what it's supposed to do.

by:

I have purchased several items, 2 hitches, 1 wiring harness and 1 ball mount. Everything came as advertised. The installation was easy with the directions provided. The video reviews were very helpful in choosing what items to purchase.

by:

I got a truck bed extender with the help of William S. He was very helpful and the device has been perfect for moving my kayaks.

Hitch ball and mounts all ready to the test!!!
Great
Products!!
Five Star e-trailer team, very informative, fast and accurate shipping, perfect packaging and "GREAT" customer service"

by:

Does the job, however there's a lot of play when hitch mount is inserted into the hitch and when towing with an empty trailer. Very loud. Have to buy a silencer that goes around and secures the product.

by:

Allows me to open the tailgate on the truck with a trailer hitched up.

  • What Should Ball Mount With 6 Inch Drop be Rated For With Titan Hitch Box Extension
So you only need the ball mount to be rated for (at least) the amount you are towing, which in this case is 4,500 lbs. That 4.5k is also the max capacity (when used at 34 inches) of the Titan hitch extension, which is the following part number: - Titan Hitch Box Extension for 2-1/2" Trailer Hitches # RP45292 So as long as your ball mount is rated for the max 4,500 lbs the # RP45292 is rated for, that's all you'll need. There aren't actually any ball mounts with the drop you need that...

  • Availability of 5 Inch Drop Ballmount With Preinstalled 2 Inch Trailer Ball
We don't offer a 5 inch drop ball mount, but if you were to use a 4 inch drop like part # C93KR and installed a # 63845 ball, you'll get a bit of squat in the rear suspension of the vehicle (which would vary according to the trailer's tongue weight) that would put you close enough to the 5 inch drop you're looking for. The ball needs to be torqued to 250 foot lbs, but any local shop should be able to do that for you without charging you an arm and a leg. The trailer doesn't need to be...

  • Extended Ball Mount For Towing an Enclosed Trailer Behind a Motorhome
I have a couple options for you as the Curt High-Low Adapter 45797 # C27KR is only designed to be used with tow bars when flat towing. The Curt Class III Ball Mount with 2-5/16" Ball # C45065 is only 9-1/4" long from the receiver hitch pin hole to the ball mount hole. The Curt Ball Mount # D-28 also has a 6" drop like the other Curt ball mount but this mount is 14-1/4" long from the receiver pin to ball mount hole. That would gain you 5 inches without using an adapter. The ball mount...

  • Availability of Curt Ball Mount # C45070 with Ball
For the Curt Ball Mount (4" Rise and 6" Drop) # C45070 that comes with a hitch ball you can use part # C45065 for a 2-5/16" ball or # C45064 for a 2" ball. Both options feature the same 7,500 pound towing weight capacity. Just keep in mind that the hitch ball does come pre-torqued from the factory with the unit in the drop position. It will require a bit of force to remove the ball so that you can flip the mount but you can certainly do this if needed. Otherwise you can simply order...
