Today well be reviewing part number BD028384. This is the Bulldog Collar-Lok Coupler with High-Profile Latch. It is designed to fit a 2" ball and an A-frame trailer. It's going to be rated at 5,000 lbs. The heavy-duty coupler is ideal for utility, livestock, cargo and construction trailers. The collar-lok design offers automatic, continuously tight fit for absolute security. Here on this side you can see that there's a little separation here.
This is the actual hinged ball socket that makes hookup very simple. It's made from a high-strength steel so it's going to be very durable. Also here at the back we have the built-in jack-attachment point that allows for quick, easy mounting of a round utility jack. The diameter of that hole is going to measure 2-1/4". The bolt holes are going to measure 3/4" x 7/16"; and from the center of 1 hole to the center of the other, it's going to give us a measurement of 3" and that's going to be the same for each hole. This is designed to fit 50-degree A-frame trailer.
The overall length is going to give us a measurement of 16". The cool thing about having the hinge ball socket is that it's going to give you a visual indication of proper closure so it's going to provide an additional piece of mind. The high-profile latch is very simple to use. It also comes with the coupler pin, so if you just pull that out as I lift up the latch, you're going to see the collar slide back, which opens up the hinge portion here that's going to allow a 2" ball to fit right in there. With it open, the ball is going to fit right in there and then to secure the ball in place all you need to do is close the lever and the hinge ball socket is going to pinch the ball and provide a nice secure connection.
To close it, we just need to make sure that that collar lever is back in place and as we close the latch it's going to allow the collar to slide over that, which would secure the ball in place. Then all we need to do is secure it by reinstalling the pin through the coupler pin hole. That's going to do it for today's review of part number BD028384. Perfect got what I needed when I needed it !
This is a perfect replacement for the one that broke, first of all my trailer was stolen, thanks to Las Vegas Metro police department they recovered it. The genius's that stole the trailer didn't understand how this coupler worked and it must have come loose. This was a perfect replacement, I cut the old one off, installed the new coupler, and my trailer is back to normal, in fact it's loaded up for a very large job tonight.

The coupler is still just as high quality as initially. Couldn’t be happier. I also purchased fenders from Etrailer and they were twice the quality as those I saw at Tractor Supply. Excellent value. Glad I used etrailer!

Five star service from etrailer, and maybe a two or three-star product from Bulldog. Aside from the rust and the fact that the collar is so stiff that it can't be operated by hand, the fabrication on the steel attachment plate is poor. The holes for the tongue jack are punched out, twice in some cases, resulting in an enlarged hole, but there are no threads for the tongue jack so you'll have to fumble around and use nuts underneath. The vertical angles on the steel are wrong, so it will splay out at the bottom and won't fit tightly to the A-frame and you will need to shim it out. The interior of the casting is full of weld spatter that will chafe the tow ball. I bought the less-expensive Ram sleeve-lock coupler under a Curt label and the fabrication is much better, having none of the problems the BullDog did. etrailer kindly sent me an RMA to return the BullDog.
The best coupler we have used for our construction business. I have been using these for 14 years now without any problems. We replace them every 5 years at about 160,000 miles when we purchase new trailers. I currently need three now but they have been out of stock for several months. Still waiting for new stock to arrive so I can order. I feel safe with this type coupler and my employees also like the security it provides.
Don’t buy this!!! It literally does not work. You can’t open the coupling because it was built incorrectly. There isn’t enough room to slide the coupling back. Of course I didn’t realize this until I had mounted it on my trailer. etrailer customer service is about to get an earful!
Receiver worked perfect with 3” square tube
The Bulldog coupler is SO MUCH easier to hitch up and disengage than my previous coupler which required several back and forth movements of my tow vehicle to engage/disengage the hitch ball.
Heavy duty, clean - no bulk to deal with and can step on the tongue easily to climb up, etc. Perfect for up to 7K# trailer. When it is latched, it is latched and in the truck and away you go! Great Bulldog product.
Really fast shipping, install only took 15 min, and much more solid than the original coupler on the trailer that used two long bolts (which wore and caused the holes to get oblong making the connection to the trailer sloppy), as compared to the four bolts provided with the new coupler.
Works great. Welded it on and was ready to go. Have ordered from etrailer before, and just like every time before my parts arrived very promptly and have never had any complaints with service. Will definitely be using etrailer again.
This coupler was not only a replacement part but an upgrade over the OEM coupler on this trailer!
