Video Transcript for Brophy Ball Mount Review EA20

Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer. And today we're taking a look at the Brophy Aluminum Ball Mount and we do have those in a variety of drops. So we have a two inch, a four inch, six inch, and an eight inch, and that's going to meet your needs of the trailer and vehicle that you have. Having the ability to have an eight inch or a six inch strap on a vehicle with larger tires or is slightly lifted is great because not only can you still have your off-road clearance and look good lifted, you can still use this to pull your trailer and get the use out of your truck still. Our two and four inch drops are going to be great for your standard height vehicle on your truck or SUV that doesn't have a ton of ground clearance or isn't lifted. These are going to be a perfect height for you to attach to your trailer.

Not all trailers have the same height. So if you do tow a multitude of different height trailers, having the ability to put a rise just by flipping the mount itself is going to be a great option for you. Our two inch drop flipped around will actually give you a one inch rise. Our four inch drop flipped around will give you a three inch rise, our six inch drop flipped around is going to give you a four inch rise. And then finally, our eight inch drop is going to give you a seven inch rise.

Whichever size fits your vehicle well, it doesn't really matter when it comes to that weight capacity, they all share the same tongue weight of 800 pounds. And that's going to be the downward pressure on the inside of the receiver tube hitch. Now, as far as your towing capacity, which is the weight of your trailer, plus the accessories loaded, they can all hold up to 8,000 pounds. Those are some pretty impressive weight ratings. And that's going to allow you to tow anything from as small as a kayak trailer or a small utility trailer to something a little bit larger.

You can step up to bigger things to tow like a boat here or even a camper, so you're going to cover that whole range. Now, while these ball mounts are extremely strong, you also want to check to make sure that your vehicle and the hitch can actually handle the weight that you're towing. So it's important to check the specs on both the hitch and also your vehicle's owner's manual is going to tell you how much your vehicle can tow and take the lowest of those numbers just to make sure you're staying safe. Now, one of the best features that make these ball mounts really stand out from other ones are going to be the fact that they're made out of aluminum, which at first I worried about maybe how much it can handle, but seeing the weight ratings and comparing against a standard one here, which is relatively heavy, the aluminum really shines here as I can toss it around. It is lightweight and that's going to be nice for when you're not using it.

And you're storing it in your truck bed or behind a seat. It's a lot less weight flying around as you're making turns. Now all of these ball mounts are going to have a one inch opening for whatever ball you want to put in. Now they do not come with the ball themselves, but Brophy does offer quite a few options that will all fit this and they look great. While looking for a ball for your ball mount, you're also going to want to take a look at a hitch pin and clip, if you do not have one already. Now, this is obviously a necessary item to keep this in place. Now these are great. This is a standard five eighths, and it's going to hold it in place. But sometimes people see this nice aluminum here and want it for themselves. So it might benefit you to get a locking hitch pin and clip. And we have those here at etrailer. Some of our customers have said that this does fit relatively loose in the receiver opening, and I don't disagree with them, and that can make some rattle while driving around with your trailer hooked up, Brophy does offer a U-bolt style anti-rattle device. And that's going to cinch that up to your receiver tube opening and make it nice and secure and take away that rattle. Now, the only thing left to do is hook up to your trailer, cross up your safety chains here, plug in your wiring, and you can drop it in place and hit the road. And that was a look at the Brophy Aluminum Ball Mounts. Thanks for watching..

Perfect for my Tahoe. I have a 2019 Tahoe LS 4x4 with the max tow package. The receiver is mounted higher than than on the truck it replaced. Six inches of drop appears to be just about right for my boat trailer.

by:

I bought a new trailer that came with a tongue mounted jack stand. The problem was the hand crank was to close my truck and prevented me from lowering my tailgate while the trailer was connected, by about a 1/2 inch. I had a standard steel 6 inch drop Reece ball mount. This one has more weight capacity, but is half the weight of the older ball mount. It added just enough distance from the truck I can put the tailgate down!

I would not recommend this ball mount. It fits extremely loose in the receiver and rattles like crazy. I am concerned that the aluminum will wear away slowly and the rattling will increase over time.

As with any manufactured product, the outside dimension of the ballmounts shank will have an acceptable tolerance. The same goes for the inside dimension of the hitch receiver tube. Occasionally, there will be an accessory thats on the small side of tolerance used in a receiver thats on the large side of tolerance. In that case, there will be some movement of the ballmount in the receiver. According to CR Brophy, the manufacturer, this is perfectly normal and wont cause any problem. If the movement is concerning to you, there are anti-rattle devices available such as RM-061 that will force the shank of the hitch accessory up against the side of the receiver tube so it wont move around.

Very strong sleek ball mount with great finish that I was unable to find in the Atlanta area. A dealer told me about etrailer.com. No seams or welds that might break over time. Using the ball mount with a 6000 # rated hitch ball to tow a 519Z Ranger bass boat behind an Escalade. Their customer service associate, Paula, was very helpful to locate the EA60 in their assortment.

Beautiful Forged aluminum stinger hitch. Smooth edges won't catch on stuff and it will ride in the truck with less snagging on other items. Price was right too.

works as intended. I have two other aluminum mounts from other manufactures that fit more tight. Packing was poor and finish had scratches.

by:

I required a 5" rise for a particular trailer, perfect fit

I really like this mount, as a matter of fact I own 3 different sizes of this mount. It's beautifully made, strong as an ox, no sharp edges or ugly bends. As mounts go this is a work of engineering art.

  • Where Is The Brophy Ball Mount # EA60 Produced
The Brophy Ball Mount # EA60 is produced overseas, I recommend The B&W Heavy-Duty Ball Mount - 1 inch Rise, 2 inch Drop - 8-1/2 inch Long - 16,000 pounds # BWBMHD30010 is made in the USA. I also recommend The 2-5/16 inch Hitch Ball - 1-1/4 inch Diameter x 2-3/4 inch Long Shank - Chrome - 12,000 pounds # 19286, and The Pin and Clip for 2 inch and 2-1/2 inch Hitches - 5/8 inch Diameter x 3-1/4 inch Span # PC3. • Recommended Hitch Ball Mount With 5" Rise For A 2021 Mazda CX-9
The Brophy Ball Mount # EA60 only has a 4-3/4" distance from the end of the shank to the center of the hitch pin hole so it will most likely contact the bumper of your 2021 Mazda CX-9. Instead I recommend the Curt Channel Style Adjustable Ballmount # C45901 which is going to give you approximately 6" in length from the end of the shank to the center of the rear hitch pin hole as well as the 5" rise you were needing. You can use part # 63845 for a 2" hitch ball or for a 2-5/16" ball you'd...

  • Best Ball Mount for 5 Inch Rise in 2 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver
The best ball mount that will give you 5 inches of rise is the Brophy Ball Mount # EA60. This ball mount is made from solid aluminum, which means no welded-on parts that can create weak spots, and also means it isn't going to corrode like steel can. This mount has an 8,000 lb capacity which is more than enough for the large majority of towing needs. For a hitch ball you will need either the 2" Hitch Ball # SC23-C or 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # SC30-C. Then to secure the # EA60 to your hitch,...

  • Recommended Ball Mounts For Curt RockerBall Shock Absorbing Ball
I may have an option for you but the Curt RockerBall Shock Absorbing 2" Hitch Ball part # C40047 is a 2" ball with a 1" diameter shank so this will not work for your ball mount with a 5/8" hole. If you would like to switch out your ball mount you can use the RockerBall with a ball mount with a 1" diameter I have attached a couple of ball mounts below that will work with the Rockerball since I am not sure how much rise/drop you need in a ball mount. • 2-Inch Ball Mount with 6-Inches of Drop for Towing Car Trailer
Roadmaster High-Low Adapter # RM-048-6 is intended for use along with a Roadmaster tow bar like their BlackHawk 2 # RM-422 but is not rated for trailer towing, as you noted. Instead you'll want to use a ball mount with the same 6-inches of drop, such as 8K-rated aluminum ball mount # EA60 from Brophy. Be sure to use a hitch ball rated for the trailer's weight, such as 2-inch 7.5K ball # SC23-C. Please refer to the linked article and ball mount page.
