Video Transcript for Fulton Aluminum Ball Mount Review

What's up everybody. It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna be checking out the Fulton aluminum ball mount. Now these are going to be good for your smaller utility trailers or your boat trailers. You're going to use this with a ball that's sold separately. You'll have to get that.

And that's going to help you hook up to your trailer coupler and get your boat or utility trailer on the road. Let's check it out. There's a few different versions that you can get of the ball mount. They're each going to have the same weight capacity, but they're going to have different rises and drops. For example, this one's going to have a two inch drop, and then when you flip it around, it's going to have a one inch rise.

This one down here is going to have a six inch drop in this position And then a five inch rise if you flip it around and install the ball that way. And then this one's going to be a four inch drop with a three inch rise. So, make sure you check out what trailer you're going to want to use these with and what kind of rise and drop you need for yours. So just looking at the truck, where are your hitches on your vehicle, And then look on the trailer side too. Is the coupler, where does that need to line up so that it's a nice even ride.

The whole ball mount is going to be made out of aluminum. So that's going to be a great option for, especially if you got the boat trailer and you backed the boat into the water with the trailer, this is going to hold up to that water. It's not going to cause any issues. The elements aren't going to bother it at all. Even if you did have like a black powder coat finish on another ball mount, that can easily scratch and then be exposed to those elements too.

With the aluminum, you're not going to have any of those issues. Now, once again, the ball does not come with the ball mount here. So you have to buy your own. Make sure you get one that fits in this hole. So it's going to be an inch diameter hole. So make sure you get the right kind of ball that has that, that way you can just drop it in. And then tighten it down. You're going to make sure you want to torque it down really tight. Because especially if you're planning to put a boat or utility trailer on there, you just want to make sure it's nice and tight and not going anywhere. Another thing you'll definitely have to get on your own, is going to be the hitch pin. This is one we had in the shop, so we just used it with here. I would go ahead and recommend on our website, getting the etrailer locking hitch pin. That way you can lock it up when you're not around. And you have to worry about anybody messing with your ball mount. Now, whatever one of these you go with, they're all going to have the same weight ratings. You've got the gross trailer weight rating of 8,000 pounds for all of them. And then the tongue weight rating is going to be 800 pounds. Another ball mount you can compare it to is the Curt ball mount. Now, it's going to have the same weight rating, you're going to have the same rise and drop options with it. And they're both made out of aluminum. Right away with the first difference you'll probably see in them though, is going to be the finish. This one's like a dull silver. This one 'a chrome and a reflective surface. Another thing I would want to point out is you might not see it right away, but if you line up the hitch pin holes, you're going to see this one sticks out. The Fulton one is going to stick out just a little bit more than the Curt one here. And that's going to be good because it's just going to give you more room there at the hitch when you're hooking up to the trailer. And that's just has, sticks out way further next to giving you more options for accessories here on the shank side too, because there's so much more shank on there for the etrailer hitch alignment tool, or even an anti-rattle device. You have more space on this one than you do on the Curt one, as you can see. Overall, whichever one of these you go with, it's going to be a good option for a ball mount for hauling your trailer. Especially with all the different options of the rise and drop, You can get the right one for your trailer and your vehicle side. And then, it also being aluminum, you don't have to worry about rust and corrosion, or it's just not lasting in the weather. It's going to be just fine. Thanks for hanging out. And I hope this helped..

I bught this for its light weight. The specs do not tell you that it is 10 inches from the hitch pin to the ball resulting in 2 problems. Great susceptibility to trailer sway and my trailer chains are really not long enough. I bought a different hitch and do not use this one. The specs should state this info available before buying.

This makes the truck and trailer look good. Kinda the finishing touch so to speak. I tow an 18 foot flat bottom with a custom trailer. This is the finishing touch to my rig.

1 year later, a beautiful piece of solid, polished aluminum.

Pro’s:
Very attractive
Light weight

Long enough to open my tailgate fully without hitting jack

Con’s:
Hard to find 8k rated ball with 1” shank, should had ordered it also from etrailer, they have it but I couldn’t find one at retailers

by:

The reduction in weight and improved appearance compared to painted steel is great. This is perfect for use within its load range.

by:

As always, when you buy quality it is the least expensive in the long run. Never compromise, your life may depend on the product! etrailer always has what I need unless it is something I need to be fabricated.
