Video Transcript for Curt Chrome Ball Mount Review C45297

Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer today, we're going to be checking out the Curt chrome-plated trailer hitch ball mount. When it comes to choosing a ball Mount, you know, it's a pretty important decision. There's a ton of 'em available out there all the way from ones that are very simple to ones that are really fancy. You know, they're adjustable on have multiple different ball sizes and everything else like that. So you want to make sure you get the appropriate one for your particular setup. And with this deal here, since it is a fixed tight ball mount, this is going to be ideal for those of you that, you know, pretty much have one towed vehicle that you do all your towing with and maybe a trailer or two, and that share the same ride height more or less.

And what that's going to allow you to do is hook up and keep everything nice and level. Whenever you're gone down the road. Now I will say probably one of the most important things is figuring that out. You know, how much of a drop or rise you actually need in your ball mount. And it's super simple to do that.

What you want to do is take your towed vehicle and back it up to your trailer out. Something like this is fine. Preferably on level ground as level as you can get it, and you're just going to measure from the top inside edge of your receiver tube opening there on your hitch, down to the ground, and then you're going to have your trailer here, make sure it is level, and have measured from the bottom of the coupler down to the ground. And that difference there in numbers or measurements that's going to determine, you know, how much of a drop or rise that you need. So this particular ball mount is going to have a five and three quarter inch drop.

So that's how far it's going to come down. And if you we're to flip it over, you can also use it in a raised position. And in that position, it's going to be four and one quarter of an inch. With that said, you know, the ball mount is designed to work with those two inch by two inch hitches. So really common size.

It'll work with a lot of different vehicles. And I want to mention, you know, it's not going to come with a ball or a pin and clip. Not really a big deal in our case, our customer here already had some from the past. So we just swapped them onto there. If you don't have any land around the house, you know, you can always grab it, grab those here at etrailer. Just whatever ball or you decide to go with, make sure that ball has a one inch shank. That's what the ball mount is designed to work with. So as long as you have that one in shank, you shouldn't be a pretty good shape, and the pin and clip is going to be your standard 5/8. So nothing, really, nothing really too crazy there. One of the things that, you know, I actually, I actually think the ball mount looks really good. It's got this chrome plating on here, and you know, kind of just, you know, it turns things up a little bit and, you know, honestly, depending on what type of vehicle you have, you know, I could see us looking real good, or probably leaning towards something else. You know, like our Escalade here today. I mean, it just makes sense. It's a perfect fit. You know you got a lot of Chrome accents and everything else. So, you know, it kind of adds a nice touch. So the back of this truck, you know, if I had an older pickup truck or something like that, I think I would be fine with just the regular old black painted one and not get too carried away with the Chrome, but to each her own. And if you like the Chrome, you got it. You know, and if, if you want to go a different route, there's other styles available as well. As far as the weight capacities go for the ball mount, they're going to be pretty high, actually. This thing is really solid material. You know what I mean So it's going to hold up pretty well. At least in my opinion. With that said, the maximum gross tongue weight rating is going to be 750 pounds. And that's going to be the amount of weight that's pushing down on the ball. And keep in mind these. That number as well as the next one I'm going to give you, are for the, you know, the drop position. So having it set up like this. The maximum gross trailer weight rating is going to be 7,500 pounds, and that's going to be the amount of weight that is pulling on it. And then if you we're to flip this over and have it in that rise position, because of that, you know, the weight capacities do go down a little bit. In the rise position, maximum tongue weight, 600, and the maximum gross trailer is 6,000. But with all that said, you know, there's a lot of factors here. You know, one, whatever your hitch is rated for, you don't want to exceed that specification. And the same holds true for your towed vehicle. You know, for towed vehicles is rated for less than this, you don't want to exceed that. So with that in mind, you know, check your owner's manuals and your instructions and, you know, never exceed the weight capacity for whichever component is rated the least. If you just look at the shank here on the ball mount, it is nice and thick. You know, it feels good and. Where the hitch pin hole is, kind of in that perfect spot, you know, from it to the end of our shank here, it's relatively close and chances are pretty good. That's really not going to matter all that much. You know, generally speaking a trailer hitch is never going to be so shallow that that's not going to fit in there. You know, so chances are really, really good that you're covered there, but some hitches are pretty deep. And, you know, you don't want to put this in and the pinhole never line up with your hitches pin hole, and you bottom out on that, on that bracing there. That measurement from the center of the pin hole to the closest point is two and three quarters of an inch. And honestly, unless you had kind of an oddball type hitch or, you know, one that's just excessively deep, you know, generally speaking, this is going to work with just about everything. So you should be in pretty good shape there. But other than that, you know, a actually a pretty nice ball mount, you know, that Chrome plating takes something that's otherwise kind of boring to look at, to something that, you know, just adds a little bit of style or, you know, your own touch to the back of your vehicle. With all that said, that's going to finish up our look at of the Curt chrome-plated ball mount..

Met my expectations. It is not "show" chrome, so be realistic about how perfect the finish is, the raw steel was chromed and that is about it. I wish it was packaged better. This was loose in a box with a loose ball, the ball was smashing around and banging against this draw bar. It was banged up a little even before I could us it, kind of defeated the purpose of buying a shiny new draw bar. The Drop/Rise is accurate and was the right level for my boat trailer when hooked to my GMC Yukon, where the receiver is rather high on the bumper.

Works perfect
Log splitter weighs a
ton!
Now it's easy to hook and unhook.
Thanks so much!

by:

No rusting, been in truck hitch entire time and still easily come off if needed. The 5 3/4" drop is a bit much for some of my trailers. Would be better if they made a 5" drop.

by:

by:

Product was fine delivery fine. They seem to have joined in on the please review us nonsense. This is getting ridiculous!

by:

Perfect, just what I ordered

by:

Purchased because I wanted something that looked a little better than the standard black ball mount and couldn’t find the size I wanted in aluminum. I used it 3 times last season and put it away for the winter in my garage. It was never on the truck while salt was on the road. Pulled it out the other day and it is a disgusting rusty mess. Attempts to clean off the rust were unsuccessful it was that bad. Total waste of money
BTW the picture is post cleaning, it was even worse before

by:

You can tell it's a well made durable hitch. I needed a 2" drop so my RV would pull level and this hitch did the trick. The chrome hitch also looks so much better than my old back one.

by:

Looks great!

by:

Package arrived on time and was packed with care! Thank you so much!!

by:

Perfect height.

by:

Completely rusted after just 3-4 months. I bought the Chrome so I wouldnt have an ugly rusted ball. But nope. This one rusted just as fast, if not faster. It makes my truck look like crap.

by:

Excellent quality. It ha held up beautifully. Highly recommend.

by:

My shipment came in on time and everything that I ordered was shipped correctly. All items were in great condition and not damaged. I am very happy with my order with etrailers. I will not hesitate to let anyone know where to purchase trailing equipment at a great price. Thank you so much for you help. I will install the hitch and all accessories next week and I will take pictures of the final install.

by:

High-quality finish. Feels solid. Fit as described; we're using it in the raised position. Love those etrailer videos with their rulers and detailed measurements! They really helped me pinpoint the right product.

by:

I requested 2 day shipping but forgot to check calendar as it involved a weekend and ended up 5 days. My fault. I am happy with the hitch mount and ball. I would use e trailer again.

by:

Excellent service and communication!

by:

Great quality on flat steel bar, well polished out, and chromed. Square tube could have been deburred a little better on inside the open end. But overall everything claimed to be and more for fair price.

by:

ETrailer always has what I need , great quality products, great prices, and it gets shipped earlier than expected, thanks and look forward to doing business with you soon!

by:

I like how shiney it is. Still pretty shiney after a year of moderate use and storing in the vehicle.
