Very nice unit to replace mine that the Trailers builders "forgot" to fold over the locking tabs on the channel that the unit slides into (after lunch friday oops) lol! and it hopped out when we ran through some most excellent pot-holes at 60 MPH on our fine interstate here in Virginia and it hopped out & hit the asphalt as it was still dangling by the wires. I found this at the first rest stop we hit and luckily i had a giant Tie rap to save the day and continue the journey. the wires were still in tact but the battery was long gone. Anyhow your replacement was exact, wires had a nice head-start splice on them and i am back in business. To sum it up i highly recommend y'all!!!

Product is a direct replacement for the brake away system currently installed on my trailer. This item was delayed in getting to eTrailer, but the staff were great in keeping me updated on the delivery date.

Still working well. Battery has kept a charge and system has worked as expected.

by:

Looks like a nice unit and definitely an improvement over my 1984 Teshonka unit that does not have a charger. Haven't installed it yet, still working on other brake parts but will add the review when in operation. Shipping was fast and price reasonable - thanks!

So far Ive made 2 round trips with my rebuilt trailer and the Bright Way Breakaway Kit is doing great. Ive never had the trailer become separated from my E450, but Im sure the Kit would operate as it should. I installed it inside the triangular area of the trailer tongue, next to the wiring harness junction box and am very pleased by the quality. The battery gets charged as needed through the hot wire of the Fords harness. Very nice product and highly recommended! Just dont know how to add a photo....

by:

Works as designed. Delivered with the expected excellent results from etrailer.

by:

Just installed the trailer brake emergency battery and break-away switch. Straightforward and simple. Brake electrical system working properly. Simple install, but understand the battery box has to be mounted to something upright with wire clearance underneath. I made a couple of simple L brackets from aluminum stock leaving about 1/2" of clearance.

Working properly with no problems.

Nice upgrade from my stock 2014 breakaway kit that didn't have any of the status lights. Delivery was quick and everything worked good.

by:

Easy hookup, minimal footprint and still working.

One Year later and had no issues with the product. The battery is still holding strong. Highly recommend!!

by:

Purchased as part of all parts required to upgrade a 1996 Jayco to electric brakes. Very pleased with quality of parts and results. Battery still fully charged after winter in storage!

by:

Great priced product for an older trailer. Easy installation everything I needed.

It sat thru our Minnesota winter and the battery was just fine this spring. Hooked on and it performed like new.

by:

Easy to install has performed well.

by:

The products seem to take a long time to get to me

by:

I have found etrailer to be great to work with. Prompt shipment. The Bright Way Breakaway kit was very easy to install. I do like the wiring diagram on the front of the unit.

by:

You folks are very polite and well informed. Great customer srvice!

by:

Product works as described. etrailer has been excellent to work with.

by:

These units do not do well in the sun, they should be covered. The push button cracked within 6 months and was completely gone shortly after. The unit works good, but in terms of longevity I think the electronics will succumb to the elements due to the button cracking and allowing rain inside the circuit board.

by:

Worked great just as promised.

by:

Best option all in one

by:

Works great.

by:

Easy to install and quite complete.

by:

Works great, I've installed this on my larger gooseneck first and liked it so much I purchased another one for my smaller stock trailer. A lot better than standard break away batteries with aftermarket in line chargers. The installation is a breeze and finished results are very clean. Definitely will be installing on any other trailers I purchase in the future.

by:

Thankfully, to date I have not had to “test” my break-away brake system in an on-road situation. However, periodical stationary tests prove the system works as expected. One area of improvement would be in the fasteners used to secure the battery cover. They rusted within a month. 304 stainless steel fasteners would be a recommended low cost upgrade.

by:

Was easy to install when I bought it and has worked flawlessly

by:

GREAT PEOPLE & GREAT SERVICE NEEDED TRAILER BATTERY, I WAS OUT OF TOWN NO BRAKES RUSHED MY ORDER TO ME.GOT RIGHT PART AND WAS TO ME IN 2 DAYS THANKS E TRAILER!

by:

Excellent customer service, reasonable pricing, timely shipping and delivery,, and quality parts for the past 10 years of doing business with etrailer.com. Keep up the good work.

by:

Mounts easily and works like it should, self charging is convenient.

  • Wiring of Bright Way Push Test Trailer Breakaway Kit
The 7th circuit that is omitted on the wiring diagram of the Brightway Breakaway Kit part # 3802346 is an aux circuit that is most commonly a reverse light circuit if it's used at all. The rest of the colors are standard function but if your colors are different you would need to wire by function instead. The actual taillight functions bypass the charge altogether so you would not need to worry about them with this box. The red wire is the 12 volt aux circuit which sometimes can be black,...

  • Correct Electric Brake Kit for Karavan Trailer with 3,500 lb Axle
If your Karavan trailer has a 3,500 lb axle (which I believe you do) then yes, the 10" Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit # 23-26-27 will work great for your application! There are some other parts you need if you're upgrading your trailer to have electric brakes: - 10 Gauge Wiring # 10-1-1 (enough to reach from your trailer connector to 1 brake and then along the axle to the other brake) - Butt Connectors # DW05745-10 - Junction Box Kit # 3430001-JBK - 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector...

  • Replacement Breakaway Kit Recommendation and How to Test Battery Charger
I think the best way to test the battery charger on your breakaway kit is to apply 12V power to the wire that connects to the 12V power wire on your trailer and then test the other wire on the module to see if there is power coming through. If power is coming through then I would guess the charger is okay but no power means it's broken. The only real way to test the charger though would be to connect it to a battery that is depleted and see if it regenerates the battery. You'll need to...

While I was unable to confirm who manufacturers the Defender 2 brake away system on your 2021 Big Tex 60EC. I do agree that the Bright Way Push-to-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit # 3802346 does look identical minus the decal and they have the same wiring and mounting locations.

I do have an option for you but we don't carry Vision LED so the only option we could offer is a full replacement like the Bright Way Push-to-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit part # 3802346 which is a very comparable system. It has a side mount installation and push to test feature. There are only a few wires that need to be connected so the swap should be very easy and straightforward although it's not a plug-in-play.
