Parts Needed to Add Trailer Brakes to Sure-Trac Enclosed Trailer with 3,500 lb Axle

Question:

I have a 6x12 Sure Trac trailer model STW7212SA. I would like to add brakes and also flip the leaf spring axle to get more height. Currently with a WD hitch, and my 2013 frontier pro4x the hitch coupler is close to 4 inches off the ground. I’m hoping to flip the axle and add brakes for safety and control. Or possibly add new coupler with a channel riser for height. Any help on parts needed?

According to my research your Sure-Trac STW7212SA enclosed trailer has a 3,500 lb axle with a 4" drop. To add brakes to this axle you'll need to make sure that you have a brake mounting flange on your axle - the brake mounting flange will look like part # 4-35 and will be welded on right behind the spindle. If this is the case then I have everything you'll need to accomplish this listed below:

Over-Under Conversion Kit - # K71-384-00
Electric Trailer Brake Kit - # AKEBRK-35-SA (1 set per axle)
Hub and Drum Assembly - # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K (2 assemblies per axle)
Junction Box 7-Way Wiring Kit - # HS381-9000
Breakaway Battery Kit - # 3802346
10 Gauge Wire - # 10-1-1 (sold by the foot)
Heat Shrink Butt Connectors - # DW05745-5

The over-under kit will place your leaf springs on top of your axle, then the brake kit and hub and drum assembly I recommended are designed for a standard 3,500 lb axle so you may want to check the tag in the middle of your axle to make sure that's what you have.

The junction box gives you a clean and organized way to connect all of your wiring and the breakaway battery is designed to activate your trailer brakes in the event that your trailer becomes uncoupled.

You'll also need a brake controller like the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED24FR on your 2013 Nissan Frontier to activate the trailer brakes.
