Parts Needed For Installing Trailer Brakes On a Yacht Club Single 3,500LB Axle Pontoon Boat Trailer

Question:

I was wondering if I can add brakes to a single axle yacht club pontoon trailer? I did not originally consider hydraulic brakes. I just watched some how to videos and installing the brake lines and accuator seems pretty straight forward. Depending on the cost I would definitely consider it. Can you provide me with a parts list for both electric and hydraulic so I can make an informed decision? The axle has a #84 spindle.

The best option would be to go with Disc Brakes # DE66YR. These are the best option as they repel water better than other trailer brakes and will offer superior braking. This will require the Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator # T47457107K and Brake Line Kit # HS496-251. The brake actuator uses a electric lockout so you will need a 5-way for your tow vehicle. If you have a 7-way then you will need an Adapter # A75TB or a Kit # C57187 can be used to change a 4-way to a 5-way.

You could also go with Hydraulic Drum Brakes # AKFBBRK-35-D. These will require 2 Hub/Drum Assemblies # AKHD-545-35-G-EZ-K, a Dexter Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator # T43397007K and Brake Line Kit # HS496-251. As the brakes are free backing you will not need the 5-way like the kit above requires.

For Electric Brakes # AKEBRK-35-SA you will need 2 Hub/Drum Assemblies # AKHD-545-35-G-EZ-K, Junction Box # 3430001-JBK, 7-Way # H20043, Breakaway Kit # 3802346 and Wire # 12-1-1 to run the power to the brake assemblies. This will require an electric brake controller and 7-way on your tow vehicle.
