Breakaway Switch is Not Working After Pulling Pin

Question:

I can pull the plunger out of the breakaway switch on my 2010 Jayco 35RLTS and it doesn’t affect my brakes. What can I do to correct that?

There are many, many reasons why your breakaway switch may not be operating after pulling the pin, and of course it's really important to get that remedied. Start by going over your wiring to ensure there are no wires that are damaged, nicked, or broken. Also be sure that the battery is fully charged, and you have a good ground.

Also check out the linked help article on breakaway switch wiring and compare yours to see if yours is wired correctly (I'm not sure if this is a new system or not). The other possibility is that your system is bad or corroded if it's older, and you will need a new system.

For that I recommend the highly reliable Bright Way Push-to-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit with 12V, 5-Amp-Hr Battery and 1-Amp Charger - Side Load # 3802346 or Top Load # 3802308.
