Incomplete wiring harness! Worst of all the battery was bad. not just dead but 3 bad cells. After exchange, the replacement battery will just barely hold 12 volts. My guess is that Carlisle is foisting off 6 to 10 year old batteries onto it's customers! But, through all of these problems, eTrailer has been a champ!! They worked to get Carlisle to agree that it did indeed need replaced. Carlisle did not believe that I knew how to hook up the wires to the battery!!! They made me get it tested and get a statement from the place with printout that it was bad!! I really had to search for a place that would go on record saying it was bad. NEVER, NEVER buy ANY CARLISLE PRODUCT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See what our Experts say about this Hydrastar Trailer Breakaway Kit

  • Breakaway Battery Kit Needed for HydraStar Actuator on Triple Axle Trailer
Unless your state requires a 9AH battery you actually only need a 5AH battery for a HydraStar EOH actuator. For example, the HydraStar # HBA16 which is rated for disc brakes is compatible with a 5AH breakaway battery kit. Since you need a breakaway battery kit that is compatible with up to a triple axle trailer I recommend the Tekonsha # 50-85-313 because it has a built-in charger, is a top load so it's easy to read, comes with a test button, and is DOT compliant. I have attached an installation...

  • Converting Military Trailer Air Over Hydraulic Drum Brakes to Electric Over Hydraulic
You are correct, there are 4 electric over hydraulic braking systems, from 3 manufacturers, that can be used to eliminate the air over hydraulic actuator on your M200A1 trailer. These systems all require a breakaway system to meet DOT safety standards. I will detail each system for you so you can select the one that will work best for your truck and trailer setup. First, the Dexter Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuator, # K71-650, would be a good choice because it will work with the OEM...

  • Breakaway Kit to Comply with DOT Regulations when Using the Carlisle HydraStar Actuator
The Break-Away Kit and Battery, part # HBA-EBA, for the Hydrastar Electric-Hydraulic Actuator, part # HBA-10, is the correct unit to provide power to the hydraulic pump for the specified amount of time to meet DOT regulations. The battery in this breakaway kit is a 17 amp-hour rated battery, and most normal breakaway kits for standard electric trailer brakes only utilize a 5 amp-hour battery and would not provide power to meet DOT regulations with the Hydrastar unit. If a breakaway kit...

  • Recommended Break Away System for Triple Axle 40 Foot Gooseneck
The regulations state that the when the breakaway pin is pulled, the brakes should be able to hold the trailer for no less than 15 minutes. A 10A system wouldn't be sufficient for a triple-axle trailer as large as your, the Cargo Towing Solutions # HBA-EBA 17A system you'd looked at is exactly what I'd recommend using. I've linked to a product description video featuring the # HBA-EBA break away kit.

  • How Do I Get My Boat Trailer To Apply The Brakes When Backing Down A Steep Slope?
Getting no brakes while reversing will be due to having a surge actuator. As this type of actuator applies the brakes by pressure on the coupler and there will be no forward pressure when you are reversing down a slope, it will not apply the brakes. The only way around this is to convert from a surge type actuator to an electric over hydraulic system. Doing this will require you to remove your current surge actuator and replace it with a standard coupler, like the Demco # DM13689-95. This...

  • Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuator that Does Not Require a Brake Controller
I have the perfect solution for you. Take a look at the Cargo Towing Solutions Hydrastar XL # HBAC10-CLR. With this electric over hydraulic actuator there is no need for a hard-wired brake controller in the tow vehicle. It comes with a handheld unit that plugs into a power outlet in the vehicle cab and communicates with the unit on the trailer wirelessly! This unit does work with drum brakes. I also recommend adding breakaway kit # HBA-EBA if the trailer does not already have one. It was...

  • Recommendation of Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator For 6,000-Lb Tandem Axle Trailer with Disc Brakes
For an electric over hydraulic brake actuator for your 6,000-lb tandem axle boat trailer with disc brakes, I have the Dexter Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuator, part # K71-651, that you have referenced and the Carlisle HydraStar Electric-Hydraulic Actuator, part # HBA16. They will both require a breakaway kit like the Dexter Breakaway Kit, part # 34-285, or the Carlisle Breakaway Kit, part # HBA-EBA. The breakaway kit is required to apply the trailer brakes should the trailer become...

  • Replacement Battery for Use with Hydrastar EOH Actuator
For a replacement Hydrastar battery the only solution we have is the part # HBA-EBA which comes with a new box and the breakaway switch.

  • Is a Battery Charger Included with the Break-Away Kit and Battery for Hydrastar XL
The Cargo Towing Solutions Break-Away Kit and Battery for Hydrastar XL, # HBA-EBA, does not include a battery charger. If battery is connected to the 12-volt auxiliary circuit in the 7-way, the battery might overcharge causing damage to the battery. There is no way to regulate the power on the 12-volt auxiliary circuit to the breakaway battery. It is recommend instead to use a charger like the Trailer Breakaway Kit Battery Charger, # 20011. The kit is easy to install, black wire connects...

  • Which HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuator for Drum Brakes on Farm Wagon
You'll want to use the Hydrastar unit rated for drum brakes, because if you used the disc brake model which operates at a higher pressure you'd likely blow the wheel cylinder seals out pretty quickly. Which would be not be so good. Of all the EOH actuators we offer, the Hydrastar # HBA-12 is the favorite among our team of installation technicians because of how well it works and how reliable and durable it is. Farmers work very hard, and so does their equipment, so this would definitely...

  • Will the HydraStar Electric-Hydraulic Actuator Work on a Boat Trailer with Surge Brakes
The HydraStar Electric-Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes, # HBA16, will work with the surge brake system on your trailer, assuming your trailer has disc brakes. If your trailer has drum brakes, then you will want to use the HydraStar Electric-Hydraulic Actuator for Drum Brakes, # HBA-10. You will attach the brake line from your surge coupler to the fitting on the HydraStar system. This will allow the brakes to activate based on an electrical signal that is sent to the HydraStar system,...
