Video Transcript for Ventline Trailer Roof Vent Installation

Today in this old enclosed trailer we're going to repair the roof vent. What we're going to do is put a new cover on the top of the vent and on the inside we're going to install a new screen. A new screen for the inside is part number BVC0573-31 and our roof vent cover is going to be part number BV0554-01. First, we'll go ahead and take the trim ring off the interior here. Now there's a screw here and here we have to remove. We also have to remove the handle too.

Now this is the condition of the roof vent right now. The dome is completely gone and all that's left is a hinge and the brace in the middle. What we'll do is crank the brace up a little bit to make it easier to remove and we'll remove what's left of the hinge. On the bottom of the hinge is some tin that we just peel off out of the way and you should be able slide off to the other side. We'll also remove the trim ring and the screen.

We'll need that out of the way to work with it. Let's go ahead and bring this up. We'll go ahead and put our new vent dome in place. We just slide it on. Now we'll take our tab and just bend it down so it cant slide out.

We'll do that in both sides. Now, to put our crank mechanism back into track, we'll just go ahead and loosen it up, put the roller back in here and then bolt it back in place. Now, we can go ahead and put our screen in place. Now this is our old vent and this is the new vent we're going to replace it with. Dimension wise, its an identical fit.

However, the only difference is the hole for the crank is located in a different stop. The older screens or older vents are getting harder and harder to find. By using this new vent, we'll only need to do one modification. We'll place one over the top of each other, square it up and we'll use a 1/2-inch drill bit to mark our hole. We're going to give you a measurement from this mark to the edge right here. Now that looks like 3-3/4 inches. We'll put a block under it then we'll drill out a hole. We'll start smaller and work our way up so that way we have a nice even finish when we're done. Now, for our original hole here when we have everything installed, we'll just use some silicon sealant to fill up the hole. We're going to reinstall the trim. We'll go ahead and put our handle back into place then we'll take a few seconds to seal up that hole. Also, if you can get a hold of a plastic plug, you'd use that as well on here too. We'll go ahead and operate it. With that, that'll finish it for our roof vent repair on this old trailer.

The order was processed quickly and I was kept informed on the status with e-mails. Vent cover installation and fit up was easy. The mate up of the existing open/close mechanism was a little "fussy". But a re-review of the included instructions confirmed the correct orientation. After I applied a small amount of grease to the friction retaining clip and slide, it was working as good as new.

by:

Pleasantly pleased with this vent cover. Its fit over the roof opening of our 20 year old hay trailer was a bit tight so the plastic dome wouldn't descend flush to the trailer roof. It seemed the closing edge opposite the hinge was bowed inward a little. (Might have been compressed during shipping, but the outside of the box was not damaged). Anyway, I was able to gently bend it outward without damage using a channel lock on the supporting galvanized brace which runs from the hinge to the opposite side.

The excellent instructional video attached to the dome part on etrailer's digital shopping catalogue was very helpful. I changed the screen too. I was able to find an older style screen on the Walmart website which did not require me to drill a new hole for the crank handle as demonstrated in the instructional video on the etrailer.com site. At half the price as etrailer's screen and double the shipping cost from Walmart, cost for replacing my vent dome was a horse apiece.

Thanks etrailer. I'm very happy.

A year later and the vent is holding up great. I live in a coastal area with salt water on both sides of our community. Vent still looks great and opens and closes like new.

by:

I hate to leave a bad review due to the seller but my product arrived damaged due the seller stuffing them into a box thats to small.

That looks awful, I am so sorry it arrived this way! I will have our customer service team reach out to you.

by:

Etrailer told me the wrong part. This is NOT a replacement for a Ventline VB0568 in spite of what you'll read from their "experts". This is missing the mountpoints for the bar to raise and lower it that the original VB0568 has. Instead there is a completely different bar in a useless location.

9/26/2023

Well that doesn't sound right. Lets get you over to customer service so they can get some pictures from you and get you a return and refund.

Somebody L.

10/5/2023

That didnt work out. They didnt give me a return refund. They wanted me to pay return shipping and also pay a restocking and handling fee after their incorrect recommendation. Dont believe E-trailer if they say this is a replacement part for the VB0568, or frankly any other part they sell is a compatible replacement. Ive bought hundreds of dollars of products from E-trailer over the years. This is the worst experience Ive had. I recommend you use a different company.

10/19/2023

@SomebodyL We're sorry to hear about that. We typically refer folks to the linked help article to determine which vent lid is the proper replacement. Ventline tells us that the # BV0554-01 or the # BV0554-03 are the proper replacements for the Northern Breeze VB0568 roof vent.

by:

The roof vent was a perfect fit and after a year it still works great!

by:

Vent cover was a perfect replacement equal to original quality and fit. Fast shipping, thank you.

by:

These pictures are of the replacement of my vent covers on a 1975 Star Craft
Camper. The ones I ordered from you were slightly bigger, 14.5 inches, than
the standard 14 in replacements and were a perfect fit. They installed
easily once I removed years of caulking and sealant from the hinged slide
rail. It has been a year since I replaced the covers and they are holding
up just fine. Recommend any do it your selfers carefully measure the
existing covers to make sure they will fit properly.

The vent covers are still working great. If you need a plastic replacement vent fan blade for a very old fan motor with a 14 inch D shaped shaft, most modern replacements fit a smaller shaft. I used Grainger and found exactly what I needed for a few bucks without having to replace the entire motor and switch assembly.

by:

Works as described and very easy to install. I am going to order three more to replace to ones on our RV before they crack.

Perry

Holding up just fine, no problems

by:

Perfect replacement for 20 year old covers! They fit great, are easy to install (you'll need to work from inside and on top the camper), seem to be sturdy yet forgiving enough to take an errant tree branch or light hail, and let a lot of light inside. The domes are slightly higher profile than the OEM, but it provides a quieter angle for raindrops (and "glancing blows" angle for small hail - which cracked the old ones). I doubt I'll need to, but I would buy them again - especially from etrailer.com.

I got my item in the mail less than a week
after I ordered. I have a 2004 Pace cargo
trailer. The original dome fell to pieces from age and sun exposure. I found etrailer and found the dome item BV0554-01. Installed it in about 15 minutes. Looks and works great.

Dome works great. Very happy with the product and with etrailer.

Prompt shipping and transit time. Box with the 2 vent covers arrived in excellent condition.
Easy and fast to install.
5 screws per vent and a total of 15 minutes to install 2 vent covers.
Great instructions, and video tutorials available too.
Two thumbs up!

Vent covers still look new, interior of trailer is still dry, vents were an excellent purchase.

by:

This shank works perfectly with my 2019 Chevy Tahoe with tow package and 2017 Forest River 2360 Trailer with a Pro Series weight distribution hitch. On the bottom adjustment holes it lines up at the same height as the trailer ball when level. A very heavy duty shank.

by:

Perfect fit and easy to install. The hardest part was getting the old covers off.

by:

Very happy with the process. Search was the best, product description, formatted intelligently. I received it very quickly, and it is installed already. Glad i ordered the seal, mine was dry rotted and falling apart.

by:

The 14" vents appear to be of good quality & 1 was easily installed. However as the pictures below show, that of the 3 vents that were purchased, 2 were damaged, tops depressed to the point of cracking the plastic beyond repair. They were shipped in a 16"x16"x8"deep box. (3 should not fit in this size box.) Please send me a return authorization number, and ship me 2 replacement vents as soon as possible. (Leaving on the 10 of April for family reunion.) Thank you.

Update to review 04-02-23. Your Customer Service Dept. was right on top of the problem. Emailed them some photos of the damage, and new vents were shipped in time for me to install and hit the road. Ill definitely have etrailer as my #1 supplier!

by:

It fit. I climbed up top with a hand drill, a bit, 3 solid general purpose screws and installed it in about 3 minutes. I already had the trailer out on a road trip in a rainstorm and it functioned like a charm. My gear was safe and dry. It's the 3rd vent cover I have had to put on this trailer over 10 years and this was the cheapest and easiest way yet.

by:

I have an enclosed trailer that had a deteriorated roof vent. I wasn't sure which vent would fit my trailer because two different ones were available. I checked out several websites and etrailer.com had the best detailed information, pictures and how to DIY videos. This made it very easy for me to order the correct vent and install it with ease. It was also very competitively priced. I selected the cheapest shipping and was amazed that it only took a few days. Whenever I need anything for my trailers, I will go to trailer.com first!

by:

Fitment was excellent installation took about five minutes

by:

I had to replace the vent cover on a Boy Scout troop trailer after the old cover disintegrated on the trip back from camp. Ordering was easy, delivery was prompt, and installation wasn't too bad. One issue during installation - the dimensions of the slot in the new cover seemed different from that in the old cover. It was very challenging to get the support arm into the slot.

by:

Great all around. From ordering to delivery. Thanks etrailer. You got the stuff..

by:

The ventline roof vent lid arrived promptly in perfect condition.

In order to determine the correct roof vent, measure where the vent opens. The standard trailer roof vent opening is roughly 14-1/4" x 14-1/4" and have roof vents that measure 14" x 14". To pick the correct cover, you will also need to know the type of hinge you need. There is a 3 point hinge, such as the one on the Camco # CAM40153; a 4 point hinge as seen on the Camco # CAM40154; or a rolled metal continuous hinge like on the Ventline # BVD0449-A03; and universal hinge as shown on...
