This is a very good product.
However
you need to be careful what vehicle and bike rack that you intend to use with it.
My vehicles 2" hitch was not hollow past the end and the hitch extender bottomed in the hitch before the 2nd hole could be lined up and used. So the 2nd hole on the vehicle side was unusable.
Then using the Swagman Chinook 2 bike rack I found that the bike rack hitch could not be inserted deep enough into this hitch extender to be able to use the 2nd hole in the extender, on the rack side.
With that situation I was not able to use the 2 holes that would get the bike rack installed in the shortest distance from the rear of the. vehicle.

The "Hitch Extender" that I ordered works great. Everytime I go RVing in my Winnebago MH I utilize it.

Still working great. Used it many times.

by:

Bought this for the front hitch on a John Deere gator. The winch got in the way of the hitch, so a minor extension was needed. This is the perfect product. Use front hitch for positioning boats in my garage for winter storage. Works great for this application - short moves, not towing as this product is not certified for towing. Recommended.

by:

works great for carrying lite weight cargo carrier on my jeep wrangle. gets carrier beyond spare tire. Other extensions would not work with my bumper hitch.

The hitch extender can indeed be a handy item! But be aware that using a hitch extender will lower the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by half.

by:

The product arrived much faster than I expected. It seems to be well made and substantial and should do what I need. I need it to extend my Swagman rack further away from my car's bumper so I don't have to remove the peddle on my inside bike.

Works great! I can get into the rear without taking the bikes off.

by:

I used it to extend a Swagman platform-style bike rack so that it would clear the spare tire on the rear bumper of our new trailer. This extender was nicely designed and manufactured for its intended purpose, with minimal "slop" when installed. I'd have given it an "excellent" rating, but the way the inner square steel tube is positioned and welded inside the outer square steel tube prevented use of one of the four available extension positions. However, given how well the final installation worked out for me, I'd definitely consider purchasing this extender again to meet a similar need in the future.

by:

Needed just a few more inches so my bike rack would clear the spare tire on my Jeep JKU and this does the trick perfectly. Bought the locking bolt/pin as an attempt to slow down theft of the rack. Thinking a thief would have to come equipped to not only break the lock off (wouldn’t be too difficult) but also with the right sized metric socket wrench to remove the bolt. I’m very pleased with how firmly the bolt/pin holds the extension as does the bolt pin on my Yakima rack making the whole system very solid. I’ll still run some straps to my roof rack from the bike rack to reduced the inevitable lateral motion as I’ve done with other bike racks.

by:

The HE 6000 trailer extension I purchased worked great..the interlocking bolts prevent any wiggle once inserted into my 2 inch receiver allowing me to use my bike rack without any movement ..great price, great product, and fast service..

by:

This extension works as advertised and allows plenty of clearance from the rear mounted spare tire on my Jeep Wrangler. Please note this product is for use when attaching a bike rack and not for towing trailers and such.

by:

Extender is made in Taiwan. It states not to tow with which I only will be using it with bike rack. Metal feels cheap but should work for bike rack. Have Thule bike rack cannot use inside pin hole because rack hits middle part of extender where welded.

by:

Great item. We pull a Jeep behind our motor home and we use this adapter to mount our bike carrier to the jeep. No issues and thousands of miles of rock solid support. We never worry about the bikes!

by:

I needed a way to lock my Kuat bike rack to my Jeep while moving it back away from the vehicle more than 4 inches. This in conjunction with the threaded locking pin work perfectly in every way to accomplish what I needed.

by:

I left a message on their website and someone actually answered it. I ordered the part that I needed and it was delivered when promised. Furthermore The hitch extender works like a charm. Excellent product excellent service. Stan.

by:

I needed an extension for use on my new Terrain and it worked great. Now I have a new problem. I traded cars and need a hitch for my new 2019 GMC
X5.

by:

Great product, I was able to extend the bike carrier, on my motorhome, just enough to be able to open the rear windows

Excellent customer service. I have purchased several items from etrailer. There was a small problem with one item and they corrected it the same day. Very happy.

by:

The hitch extender did exactly what I needed it to. Now I'll have to see how well it holds up. I'm expecting it to be fine.

by:

Product is as adverstised, solid and well made. Etrailer was easy to work with, the delivery came quickly and there was even a follow up message! Great customer service.

by:

  • Why the Difference Between Weight Capacities on a Hitch Extender vs. Extended Hitch Ball Mount
Thanks for your question. I can help clear up some of the confusion here. Basically, when using a Brophy Ball Mount for 2" Hitches part # BM20 or other extended ball mounts you have one connection point to the hitch, and it has been tested to not over torque the hitch when in use. When using an adapter like the Advantage SportsRack Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches - 11" Long part # HE6000, you are introducing a second connection point one at the hitch and one at the end of the extender...

  • Recommended Hitch Extender To Use Swagman S63400 2-Bike Rack On 2015 Jeep Wrangler
The best option we have for a hitch extender to fit a 2" hitch is the Advantage SportsRack Hitch Extender part # HE6000 which is 11" long. This should then allow for the Swagman 2-Bike Rack for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches part # S63400 to clear the rear spare tire on a 2015 Jeep Wrangler. Please note, hitch extenders will reduce your hitch's weight capacity by 50%.

  • Can I Use a Hitch Extender With Thule Helium 2 on 2018 Lexus RX 350?

One of our hitches that fits your vehicle is the etrailer Hitch # e94AR and it has a 600 lbs tongue weight. If you use it with a hitch extender, your remaining tongue weight capacity is about 300 lbs. This would depend on the specific class of the trailer hitch.
