When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Because this model does not include a reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free-backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without triggering your trailer's brakes.

  • What Is Needed To Upgrade Brakes On Trailer With Tandem 7000 Lb Axles And Brakes On One Axle
Disc brakes stop harder than drum brakes and require less maintenance. You will need to make sure the brakes all match if you are adding to the second axle. Also you will need to make sure you have the correct actuator. If you have drum brakes on your trailer, you will need to replace the brakes and actuator to those designed for disc brakes. I have attached a link to our product page for brakes that can be used for 7,000 lb axles. They are all 12 inch x 2 inch brakes. You can use the...

  • What Is Top Width Of The Titan Brake Actuator T4749600?
The top width of the Titan Brake Actuator - Painted - Disc - 2-5/16" Ball - Weld On - 12,500 lbs # T4749600 you were looking at measures right at 4" as shown in the included diagram. This will be the exact same dimension as the # T1607500, but you will need the # T4749600 for disc brakes as it has higher pressure which is required for disc brakes. The # T4749600 will be an exact replacement for the # T1607500 if that is what you have on your trailer, and is designed to fit 3" wide tongues...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer wish Surge Brakes that Slams When Stopping and Starting
Sounds like you have a bad shock in the surge actuator of your trailer based on what you described. The actuator part # T1607500 is a Model 10 and if this is what you have then the correct shock replacement is the # T1242600.

  • Surge Drum Brake Actuator Solution for Older Trailer that has 4 inch Wide Frame
I googled the grease seal number you mentioned and I did find some options online but when I looked up the size it wasn't one that we carry a suitable replacement for. For a coupler solution though you could use the Dexter part # T1607500 which you'd want to weld to the top of your trailer frame. It was not designed to fit over a frame channel so your width being wider than usual wouldn't be a factor.

Yes, you will be able to remove the master cylinder from the Titan Brake Actuator - Painted - Drum - 2-5/16" Ball - Weld On - 12,500 lbs, part # T1607500. This is a direct replacement, so you will not need a reducer. The master cylinder you need is for a drum brake actuator. It is the Replacement Master Cylinder and Push Rod Assembly for Drum Brakes - Model 10 and 20 Actuators, part # DX66FR. This replaces the master cylinder and pushrod in the Titan Model 10 Actuator. • Replacement Coupler For Boat Trailer With Surge Brakes Weld On and Bolt On Option
For a weld on option, Titan Weld on Brake Actuator part # T1607500 is a good option. The Titan Brake Actuator welds onto a 3" wide trailer tongue and takes a 2-5/16" ball. This actuator does not have a reverse lock out option. WIthout a reverse lockout you may not be able to backup the trailer without the brakes activating. If you have free backing brakes, you do not have to worry about that. We do not carry a standard ball coupler with electric lockout that is a weldon option. I recommend...

  • Trailer Surge Brake Actuator Option For 3-1/2 Inch Wide Trailer Frame
Almost all trailer brake actuators are designed for 3 inch wide trailer frames, the only option would be to weld a coupler on top of your 3-1/2 inch frame. The issue with this for you is that the options for those only accept a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball, so if it all possible you would need to switch to that, with either the 1 inch diameter shank 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # C40005 or 1-1/4 inch diameter shank 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # C40030. If you can go to the 2-5/16 inch hitch ball, then you can...
