Video Transcript for etrailer Ball Mount Kit Review EBMK4

Today we're going to be taking a look at the E-Trailer Ball Mount Kit. This is part number EBMK4. Now the parts that make up our kit will start with the ball mount itself. This is from Draw-Tite, part number is 2753. Again, for the two inch by two inch receiver tube opening. You've got a four inch drop where you can rotate it over into a two and 3/4 inch inaudible 00:00:23 to help you cover different bases.

This is a hollow shank so we're not so worried about it being really heavy. Then a 3/4 inch wide ball mount platform, and the whole for the ball shank itself, that's going to be one inch. Now, the ball is part number 901B. This is from Convertible. It's a really nice system that allows you without having to remove this nut, and get everything torqued back down properly, to switch between an inch and 7/8 and a two inch ball. Of course, it's got a one inch bolt diameter that comes down through the shank.

Nut, we're going to have a lock washer, and there's also a cotter pin, just for an additional level of safety. This is the inch and 7/8 ball that we've got installed. We'll just push on the pin that goes through it there. Pull that through. It's going to allow us to remove the inch and 7/8 inch ball and then place on the two inch ball. It's really easy flip of that pin. Now, as far as customer reviews go, one of the concerns I had about this ball mount was ease of use.

Is it eventually going to corrode It's single piece machine steel which is nice. It's going to be heavy duty but also it's nickel coated. We're not going to really have to worry about corrosion. Looking through the customer reviews, people are talking about years of good service out of it, without the corrosion issues that some of the changeable style balls are kind of known for. At each end, there's a small rubber O ring there. That helps to seal that up and it prevents that moisture and dirt from getting in there eventually leading to corrosion.

Something I really liked about the balls themselves is that you can't really remove the pin. You're not going to be able to pull it out so the pin is going to stay with the ball itself. You're not going to worry about losing one of these and having to rely on one coming out of the other ball and switching them back and forth. The pins are going to stay in there. With the bag, this is part number ETBMB and it's going to allow us to keep all of our components stored in there. Part number PC3 here, it's a 5/8 diameter pin and clip. That's what we secure it to our hitch with. Keep everything in one convenient location. We can store this out of the way and we'll have it every time we need it. Now the ball itself is rated for 10,000 pounds whether you're using the inch and 7/8 or two inch variety. The ball mount itself is rated for 750 pounds of tongue weight. That's the maximum downward force we can put down on top of the ball. It's 7,500 pound gross trailer weight ready. That's going to be the total weight of your trailer and anything that you load up. You'll want to go off the 7,500 pounds as a maximum, unless your car is rated lower. Check the owner's manual. See what your car's tow rating is, and follow which ever of those numbers would be the lowest. The ball mount will be ideal for lots of different applications. Your medium and light duty trucks, SUVs, vans, cars. The only real requirement you're going to have is a two inch by two inch receiver tube opening on your hitch. To get it in the vehicle, we're going to take the ball mount out, slide that into the receiver tube opening. We'll line up this pin hole with the pinhole in our hitch. Slide through our provided pin. Secure it with the clip. Now we'll be ready to grab whichever ball we need at the time. The two inch and the inch and 7/8 are going to be very, very common sizes. These are the two you're going to run across a lot. Unless you get into the larger trailers where the two and 5/16 inch might come in more handy. If we've got our inch and 7/8 trailer, just pull our pin, line it up with the hole, and then be able to put that right back on. Now, I recommend the detent side. You'll see it on the pin here, there's going to be a small dimple in there. That's the side you always push from. I recommend when you install it on your ball mount, to have that facing outward. That way it's very easy to access and very easy to push when it would come time for you to switch over to your other ball. The materials that get of course our ball mount. We've got heavy duty steel. It'd be a black, powder coat finish but the important part is the ball and where it goes inside the coupler. They kind of wear on them side to side and that nickel coating is really going to help prevent the rust and stuff like that that we typically get between our coupler and our ball. Then, if any of the rust or grease does get on the ball mount itself, once we have it in the bag, we don't have to worry about getting it all over the carpet inside of our vehicle. Let's hook up our trailer and we'll be able to hit the road. That'll complete our look at the E-Trailer inch and 7/8 and two inch ball mount kit, part number EBMK4.

etrailer 2-3/4" Rise or 4" Drop Ball Mount Kit - 7,500 lbs - EBMK4

I purchased the etrailer.com 2-3/4 " Rise or 4" Drop Ball Mount Kit, Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver and Twist-in 7-Pole RV-Style Trailer Connector for my 2011 Chevy Silverado. Quick Delivery! All the necessary parts arrived in perfect condition. Directions were spot on and the instructional videos were great.

by:

It did the trick, although it is starting to rust.

by:

This item gave me the extra clearance that I needed when using my cargo carrier. Etrailer has everything that I needed for new trailer hitch.

by:

The drop ball mount is the perfect size for my Jeep. The versatile hitch balls are convenient. Thank you for putting together a great kit, providing excellent communication, and delivering it quickly.

by:

Works as intended. 1 year later, still hauling strong. simple and easy to install.

by:

Dan was awesome to work with! Extremely knowledgeable and helpful!

WOW! What can I say? Easiest install ever! I called ahead of time and spoke with Katie about what I needed. She confirmed what I wanted would work with my van.

I'm in the shipping business. The bar arrived in mint condition in a double wall box with the accessories boxed separately. After removing the hardware, reading the instructions and watching their video online, I went to work. The whole thing took less than 20 mins and I did not have to remove the exhaust. I actually used it to help hold the bar up. It took longer to remove the mud guard and rear body molding than to install.

It is heavy, weighing in at about 65lbs but I did not even have to use a jack on the van. I'm very happy with my purchase and can now put bikes on the back of the van rather than in the van. I can tow our Cub Scout trailer and hall my sons football teams gear with the optional rear carrying racks.

I also love the fact that the bar hides about 6" behind the bumper preventing injuries to the shins. The price was cheap and the install a breeze.

I bought this product to make my new hitch versatile. Even though presently I am only towing 600 pounds of small sailboat and trailer, I wanted the capacity to tow heavier stuff should the need arise. Therefore, I bought a hitch rated at 3500 pounds, and this ball mount to fit both standard sizes of ball.

The two balls are easy to swap, as advertised, requiring just a screwdriver to push out the pin holding the ball to the shank.

Important tip: The nut holding the ball shank to the mount is enormous, something like 36MM, and I traveled from store to store trying to find a truck-lug socket to fit it, UNTIL I thought to mention that I was installing a trailer hitch ball. Duh. The clerk directed me to the TRAILER HITCH BALL WRENCH, a two-ended box wrench about 18" long. Problem solved for $12. Maybe the instructions could have mentioned this tool?

by:

All in one kit is Very convenient. but before you order, ensure the rise/drop of this ball mount is correct for your hitch/trailer.
Also - there is a gusset plate welded on the back of the ballmount (Drawtite 2953) in this kit, - on the 2010 Dodge Caravan with the Draw Tite Class III hitch, this plate just rubs/touches the bumper, so this draw bar can't be used on 2006-on Caravan.

I've never towed anything or had a car with a hitch so i was going in blind. Did a little research and this looked like a good plan. After purchasing, and installing I have to say that this company it excellent to deal with. Online store was set up great with essentially putting together what I needed automatically for a complete solution. I purchased it and it arrived with very good tracking i might add. So I took the laptop out and set in in the back of the Cr-v and hit play on the install video. Stop go, stop go and an hour later the hitch was installed. Took a nice break because my arms were tired...no floor jack as recommended. Next I set off to install the wiring harness and same experience. The video was dead on. It's not a difficult job at all but does require some patience and ability to swear now and then. etrailer.com was a great choice! It's amazing to open a wiring harness box and have a set of printed instructions for your car included inside, the same with the hitch. Just top notch customer service all the way. Thanks for a great transaction.

by:

Easy install started by measuring under the car on the pan and marked and cut with razor knife and then removed both rubber bushings that hold the Exhaust pipe ,first I sprayed them to lubed them or else you won't get off to easy then I cleaned the holes and sprayed them. I put the hitch on to a floor Jack and pushed into place under the car and jack it up tight to the holes put a bolt on each side and then the others ,torqued to 50 foot pounds which is the hardest part of the job . then put the Exhaust brackets back on. removed the jack and started on wiring removed panels and unplugged the blue plug and installed a new plug in both sockets and tested it .turn right and left signal on and check ground to green and yellow for pulse and the brown for 12 volts while head light was on . Finished, tried to upload Video but was not able .

We received our Honda CRV kit very quickly, took about a week to get it into the mechanic for installation. He said it went in very quickly and easily, used it for the first time yesterday and it was exceptional! Very easy to take the hitch in and out, comes with a carrying kit for the extras to store away, light kit is simple to use and hook up. My wife easily put the hitch and ball on herself! Would definitely recommend the company and product to anyone looking to add one to their SUV!

by:

Nice little bag to store the extra ball and the ball mount when it is not in use. This is an excellent product, pulled my trailer within minutes of installation without a problem. Great feature with the removable ball, includes the 1 7/8" and 2" ball, this is awesome. The 2 3/4" rise fits my Caravan and trailer like they were custom made for each other. The trailer rides almost PERFECTLY level with the trailer. Put an actual level on the trailer after hooking it up and it is only a hair off the level, and of course this is probably due to road conditions. Great product at a fabulous price! I have informed all of my friends and family where to go for all their trailer needs.

Thanks ETRAILER.COM! ! !

the receiver was nice, very easy to install. The hitch pin is a bit simple. The trailer ball kit is a change a ball design, and one of the balls was missing the pin for it. I really don't need the smaller ball and I may change the hitch also to one with a different drop/rise. I will probalbly return this and buy something else, but because I did not get the right one.

by:

I like this product it is very reliable and I can proudly say I got it at etrailer.com if I was a company owner I would sponsor this product I would gladly put my name on this product truly a good piece of equipment and it is easy to install and it is nice not to have to unscrew a ball hitch when ever I need a new size ball. Just a all around wonderful product and company. Thanks etrailer.com and all of your employees.

by:

Very heavy duty. I used it once so far pulling a utility trailer. Works as advertised. The dual rise/drop option may come in handy as well as having the interchangeability of 2 ball sizes. Easy to use. Make sure you tighten the ball mount to proper torque and use the cotter pin(read your instructions).

by:

The hitch, wiring kit, and equipment all arrived in a timely manner. The instructions were very easy to follow, and I was able to get it bolted on with the help of my friend in less than an hour. Wiring instructions were clear and worked just fine. Haven't towed anything to test the ground, but I'm confident it will work great.

by:

The Ball Mount Kit makes it easy to change from 1 7/8 to 2" ball without tools. Great design and carrying bag is very convenient touch. As with any ball mount a large wrench is needed. Also making sure the ball mount pin doesn't turn when installing is somewhat difficult. But once installed this is an outstanding product.

by:

Product was shipped promptly and arrived in GREAT shape with all parts, hardware and instructions. The installation videos on the etrailer site are excellent. I had 35 minutes before dinner and was able to complete the wiring harness installation in those 35 minutes because of the video instructions ... worth a thousand words. Hitch installation went trhe same way ..... I have not yet towed my new boat (pick up in a 4 weeks) but I can tell you this is a very solid product and installation * * * * * (5 stars) Great customer support as well. oh and by the way probably saved over $400 by doing it myself versus dealer quote!

by:

Great product and easy installation. I would highly recommend and will return as a customer soon.

The product is working great and the quality of the product is superior. This product looks expensive on the vehicle and very solid. It is a great product and you cant beat the cost for this high quality hitch. I have recommended this product to several people and they love it as well.

by:

I haven’t used the trailer ball and hitch kit yet but the kit is made solidly.

by:

Received the product earlier than I expected. Installed the hitch and wiring harness within a couple of hours without any assistance except for a floor jack. Was ready to tow in no time. Product was exactly as advertised and on-line videos were great.

by:

Nice package at a fair price. The only thing I would like to see in this kit would be a receiver lock instead of the pin. If you plan to tow multiple trailers with different ball sizes this is a must, so you don't have to have different receivers.

by:

100% satisfied.

by:

Service was excellent as the product arrived quickly with no damage and all parts securely sealed and wrapped. Installation was quick and the online videos were extremely helpful. I will recommend etrailer.com to everyone I come accross for their towing needs.

  • Recommended Hitch Receiver Compatible with 2016 and 2017 Toyota Sienna
We offer several options that fit both the 2016 and 2017 Toyota Sienna. You have the choice between a Class II hitch and a Class III hitch for these vehicles. Class III hitches have a greater weight capacity and can tow a wider variety of vehicles. If you plan on towing heavier loads at any point, I recommend going with a Class III hitch. I've attached a helpful article on trailer hitch classes for you to check out. Please note that your towing capabilities will still be limited by the...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2011 Honda CR-V to Tow a Motorcycle on a Trailer
Not at all. Tongue weight is the downward forced applied at the hitch receiver. Tongue weight is typically 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight. So for example if a trailer weight 2,000 pounds total including cargo then the tongue weight would be around 200 to 300 pounds. I have linked a help article to the right that shows how to determine tongue weight. However, even though the trailer hitch is rated for 350 pounds tongue weight, your 2011 Honda CR-V is rated lower, and you need...

To add a trailer hitch to your 2013 GMC Acadia I recommend using the etrailer # e98863 which will give you a nice 2" hitch that's perfect for towing. You could use the Draw-Tite # 75528, but we've found that our powder coating is a bit thicker than the Draw-Tite, which helps protect the hitch from rust and chips in the paint; this means a longer lasting hitch over time. For the wiring you can go two directions depending on whether or not you will be towing a trailer with brakes. If you're...

To allow a trailer with a 17 inch coupler height to be towed level you would need 5-1/4 inches of rise. So instead for a ball mount you would want the part # 4282. The reason that I recommend the Draw-Tite # 75600 over the Curt # 13077 is because the Curt hitch requires that you use a stabilization strap, like part # 18050, for any non-trailer loads like bike racks and cargo carriers per the Curt warranty....
