Determining Correct Ball Mount for Range Rover with Trailer That Has 16 Inch Ball Height

Question:

I have a Ford Escape that measures 17inch to the upper inside of the trailer hitch. I recently purchased a yacht club trailer WC222. They stated that the ball height of the trailer is 16”. Does this mean I need a drop 4? 1 inch to the top of the ball plus 2 inches for the ball height plus 1 inch for ball base. They also mentioned that the vehicle hitch might drop a bit with the load attached. Should I worry about any additional rise when loaded +1 to 3. Trailer package was purchased with vehicle. The total weight of the trailer will be about 1800 lbs. I do not have the trailer yet so I cant physically measure to the bottom of the coupler. Thanks.

You are exactly right. When accounting for the typical hitch ball height you are going to want a ball mount that features a 4 inch drop to tow your new Yacht Club Trailer level.

You are also correct that the rear of the vehicle may drop just a tad when hooked up to the trailer but this should be small enough that it doesn't require a different drop dimension on the ball mount. With an 1,800 pound trailer you are only looking at about 180 to 270 pounds of tongue weight that will be pushing down on the vehicle.
