Video Transcript for Roadmaster Tow Bar Wiring RM-146 Review

Today we're going to be reviewing part number RM-146. This is the RoadMaster's 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Kit. It's going to allow you to easily and effectively connect your motor home to your towed vehicle with the water, oil, and chemical-resistant electrical cord. The flexo-coil technology is going to allow the cord to extend more than 8 feet. Then it's also going to allow it to contract conveniently for storage and to resist dragging and tangling. The 6-Pole extension cord can be used for multiple towing applications. More than likely, it's going to be used for running power from your RV to your towed vehicle. It's going to come with 2 sockets.

One is going to mount to your RV and then one is going to mount to the towed vehicle for quick, easy hookup. The socket mounting brackets are going to be sold separately. You can find those right here at etrailer.com. You can see here how the sockets have the connectors here on the back for the wires to connect to. It runs through the rubber grommet or the rubber sleeve. Then, once it's mounted, all you've got to do is flip up the lid and then you can connect your extension cord directly to the connection points. It's got a nice spring-loaded lid, so it's always going to remain closed when that connected.

That way it's going to prevent any dirt or moisture from affecting the connection points. The flexo-coil cord, again, can expand more than 8 feet in length, yet still contract to prevent dragging and tangling. It's also going to provide convenient storage. We have silicone-injected plugs that are going to prevent corrosion. The electrical cord is resistant to water, oil, and chemicals. The plugs here on the cord have nice finger tabs on them. You can get a nice, secure grip on that. It makes for easy disconnect. The flexo-coil cords are not intended for use with RoadMaster all-terrain tow bars or any other tow bar that includes cable channel guides.

Only straight cords should be used with those models. That's going to do it for our review of part number RM-146. This is the RoadMaster 6-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Kit. .

Works great with the extra length. I have an extended hitch length due to towing a small car and therefore had to add a 4 inch drop which added extra hitch length. My precious umbilical cord got damaged by being to short and pulling out.

It solved my problem

Durable and well constructed, you know when it is connected.

The Flexo-Coil kit arrived sooner than I had expected and was exactly what I needed to complete the towing setup for my car behind the motorhome. It works perfectly and now allows me to charge the car battery while towing.

by:

Customer Service rep Steve was outstanding to work with. Ordered the Flexo-Coil 6 wire kit and it was here within 3 days. Haven't tried it yet but it looks great and i'm sure it will work fine.

by:

Very well made, complete kit with a good quality socket for each end. I found the cable a bit short, although the coiled section allows the wire to stretch, the coiling is very strong and resulted in the plugs being pulled out of the sockets unless I strapped the sprung loaded lid to the plug.

by:

Perfect fit for what i needed.

by:

Was surprised to receive the product so quickly--about 4 days. The wire was top quality, but much cheaper than I could buy from any RV dealer which I contacted; shipping was more economical than I had expected. This was my second order from you, and I was pleased with both,

by:

Got just what I ordered no hassles and arrived when I was told it would...thanks great job and will order again when meeded

by:

  • Complete Towing Setup for 2011 Chevy Express Van
I can help you find everything you need. Assuming that this is the passenger/cargo version and not the cutaway cab and chassis, for a hitch I recommend going with the Curt Class V Hitch # C15320 . This is a 2" receiver hitch and is the highest rated hitch for your vehicle in terms of towing capacity- which will come in handy if you have the 3500 Express Van. If you've got the 1500 Express or 2500 Express, you'll still be limited to the factory recommended towing capacities for those models...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring on 4-way and 7-way Connector of 1998 Toyota T-100
For your 1998 Toyota T-100, it sounds like you have a 4 way that connects to a 7-way adapter. I recommend testing your 4-way harness using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to make sure that wiring harness is failing at that left turn/stop pin. If you need to replace the harness, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118496 is my recommendation. This will give you a great harness that will allow you to connect the 4-way trailer or...

  • Wiring Needed to Tow Travel Trailer With Brakes With 2016 Toyota Highlander
We can certainly assist you with getting your 2016 Highlander geared up for towing your new travel trailer. Let's begin with the hitch, if you don't already have one. I'd recommend the Curt # C13200 which is a confirmed fit unless your Highlander has a spare tire that's mounted on an aluminum rim. You'll also need a ball mount like # C93KR a hitch pin like # PC3 and a trailer ball like # 19260 for a 1-7/8 or # 63845 for a 2 inch diameter ball. For a trailer wiring harness, since you're...

I attached a chart that details how this normally wires to a trailer for you to check out as well. In your situation the two wires with brown (and another color) are for the running light circuit but the rest SHOULD match color for color.

The tow bar you have part # BX7420 is also a really great option too as well as the DUO part # SM99251 which I attached an install video for as well. To connect your vehicle that has a 4-Way flat connector to your trailer that has a 7-Way connector, you will need to install a 7-Way on the rear of your vehicle. If you just want or need the tail light functions to operate on your trailer you will just need Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole, part # 37185. If you need the complete 7-Way wiring to operate, you will need Brake Controller 7 & 4 Way Installation Kit, part # ETBC7. The 4-Way on part # ETBC7 will plug into the 4-Way on your vehicle and...

You're exactly correct. The blue, purple and black wires can just be bundled up and zip tied up out of the way.
