7 Way Connector for 2018 Subaru Crosstrek with Factory 4 Way Connector

Question:

Hello Ive seen a few similar questions on her in regards to towing a camper with different recommendations. I have a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek that already has the 4 pin connector installed. I need a 7 blade connector to tow a tear trailer. What recommendation do you have?

In order to add a 7 way connector to your 2018 Subaru Crosstrek you'll want to use the Curt Trailer Connector Adapter # ETBC7 which will plug into your existing 4 way connector on your Subaru. If you only need the lights to function on your tear drop trailer, you won't need to connect any of the other wires, but if your trailer has brakes you'll want to continue reading.

If your teardrop trailer has brakes, you'll want to add a brake controller and connect the loose wires on the # ETBC7 to the brake controller, auxiliary 12v power supply, battery and ground wire. For a brake controller I recommend usinig the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 which is a proportional brake controller that installs in your vehicle and allows you to control the electric brakes on your teardrop trailer.

I've installed some helpful videos with a review and the installation of the brake controller and 7 way connector on a similar Subaru (not the exact model and year but Subaru's will be very similar).

Sorry for confusion, I was following up on the thread 7 Way Connector for 2018 Subaru Crosstrek with Factory 4 Way Connector - I have a 2018 Su Crosstrek with 4-pin Im wondering what to do with the ETBC7 controller wire when using a wireless controller thanks again

Got it! If you already have the Wiring Kit # ETBC7, the break output wire can just be capped off. This circuit isn't needed for the Echo. If you don't already have this kit I recommend going with the # ETBC7L instead, which includes only what you need for a wireless controller like this ( # ETBC7 still works perfectly, you'll just have some extra parts).

HI same car, same question, except that I am planning to get the Curt Echo controller, so I am wondering what to do with the wire intended to go to the controller

Assuming your Ram is equipped with the factory 7-Way connector at the bumper, you wouldn't need to do anything else to install and operate the Curt Echo # C51180. This controller only needs the 12V pin to be active on the 7-Way, which should already be the case on your Ram. So you're good to go!
