Video Transcript for Roadmaster Tow Bar Wiring RM-1064-B Review

Speaker 1: Today we take a look at the RoadMaster 4 Wire blue Flexo-Coil chord. Whatever electrical system you choose when you're flat towing a vehicle, you'll need a chord to connect that electricity between the towed vehicle and the motor home. This part here will replace a damaged 4 wire electrical chord from the RoadMaster Flexo-Coil kit. It's designed to fit the 4-pole round trailer connectors. The wires are water, oil and chemical resistant. If you notice on each end, they do have the 4 wire leads that need to be wired up.

And these Flexo-Coil chords are designed to expand more than 8 feet. And then, they conveniently contract for storage. But that should do it for the review on the RoadMaster 4 Wire blue Flexo-Coil chord.

This was an excellent replacement for the cord that wore out and deterriated over the years. Hope I need another one one day.

by:

Just what I needed... stretches easy without being a HARD pull.

Actually using 6 pin round connectors with it... Keeps my truck's tow elect connector common... 6 round on everything I tow... Trailers, 2 different toads..

  • 4-Round to 4-Round Tow Bar Wiring Cable
I have a couple of options that might work for you but we don't carry just the cord from part # RM-98164 on its own. Instead we do have part # RM-1064-B which doesn't have either connector on it. We also carry part # HM47045 which is the same type of cable, 4-round to 4-round, but obvioulsy isn't the blue Roadmaster cord.

  • 7-Way Blade To 4-Pole Round Female Adapter
The configuration you are looking for is pretty rare so an adapter like what you are wanting isn't available. So your best option would be to make one starting with the part # RM-1064-B which is coiled 4-way wiring that you could attach the connectors you are wanting on either side. For a female round socket on one end you could use the part # PK11410 and then for a 7-way plug part # PK12706.

  • How to Make Coiled 6-Way to 4-Way Adapter
I personally don't like using adapters if I don't have to so what I would do is use the part # RM-1064-B for the coiled section, the part # HM48440 for the 6-way section and then for the 4-way use the # HM48030 wired up correctly and you'd have a coiled 6-way to 4-way adapter without using any adapters that would work very well.

  • How to Make Coiled 4-Way to 6-Way Adapter for Flat Towing Vehicle
Since we don't have an adapter exactly like you are wanting so you'd have to make one using the coiled wire part # RM-1064-B, for the 4-way part # HM48030, and then for the 6-way socket # RM-910030-7.

  • Is there a 7-Wire Hopkins Flex-Coil Cord without Trailer Connectors Attached
There is a 6-wire Flexo-Coil cord, # RM-1046-R, with just the wires but there is no 7-wire option. There is also a 4-wire version, # RM-1064-B. The # HM47075 cable is only going to have 5 wires inside since the one end can only be used on a 5-Way or 4-Way flat trailer connector. The wires inside the 6-wire # RM-1046-R is 14 gauge. This is not the ideal size for brake or 12 volt line. You could just use jacketed 7-wire, # DW04914-1 which has 6 wires that are 12 gauge and 1 that is 10 gauge...

  • How to Make 6-Way to 4-Way Coiled Adapter for Flat Towing Vehicle
Since there isn't a 6-way to 4-way coiled adapter like you are looking for you'd have to piece together the kit you are in need of with the part # PK11604 for the 6-way, the part # RM-1064-B for the coiled wire section, and then for the 4-way part # HM48030 and you'd be set.

  • Is 8 Foot Length of RoadMaster 4-Wire Flexo-Coil Cord # RM-1064-B Stretched
The RoadMaster 4-Wire Flexo-Coil Cord # RM-1064-B can be stretched out to 8 feet as a max length. It would not be 8 feet long when fully retracted.

  • Recommendations for a 7-Way to 4-Way Coiled Extension to Flat Tow a Jeep Liberty Behind a Motor Home
The Hopkins Heavy-Duty, Coiled Trailer Connector Adapter, # HM47075, measures 3 feet long when stretched. This will most likely not be long enough for most flat towing applications unless the 4-Way end on the vehicle has some slack that you can pull out. You could just add a 4-pole loop, # 18045, which will provide another 60 inches of length. There is also a 48 inch loop, # 18044. A longer coiled cable is not available unless you use # RM-1064-B (8 feet long) and then wire in 4-Way flats...

  • What Gauge are the Internal Wires of the Roadmaster RM-1064-B
I spoke to Roadmaster and they said all 4 internal wires of the # RM-1064-B are 12 gauge jacketed wire. Depending on what you will be doing with this wire, the following parts may also be good options for add on parts as well. The Pollak Heavy Duty 4 Pole Round Trailer End # PK11402 would attach to the end of the # RM-1064-B very nicely. This would then pair with the Pollak Heavy Duty 4 Pole Round Vehicle End # PK11404. The # RM-1064-B would then attach to a junction box on the trailer,...

  • Solution for Connecting 6-Way Round on Towed Jeep to 4-Way Round on RV
For your particular setup there isn't a single adapter available so your best option is going to be to just make your own using the Roadmaster 4-Wire Flexo-Coil Cord # RM-1064-B. This expands to over 8 feet to reach the distance between the RV and your Jeep and you can splice a 4-Round # PK11410 at one end and a 6-Round # PK11604 at the other to create the harness you need. This will give you a nice clean setup where you don't have to worry about connecting a bunch of adapter each time...

  • Replacing a 4 Round to Both RV and Tow Vehicle Pigtail
The wiring for the male connector is the upper right (3 position) is Left Turn and Stop, Lower Right (1 Position) Ground, Lower Left (2 position) Tailights, and Upper Left (4 position) Right Turn and Stop. I have included a diagram showing the corresponding wiring that is explained in the installation instructions for your reference. Please make sure that you are wire by function not just by wire color, and I recommend testing the output on your RV to make sure this is done correctly....
