Wiring Needed to Tow Travel Trailer With Brakes With 2016 Toyota Highlander

Question:

Hello, I recently purchased a Jayco jay flight 154bh and I’m new to owning a travel trailer. I don’t have a tow package so I know I will need to purchase 4 flat adapter, but my trailer has a 7 way plug. Is there N attachment to purchase to convert a 4 flat to a 7 way? I also just purchased a tekonsha p2. What wiring harness will I need for my vehicle. Thank you!

We can certainly assist you with getting your 2016 Highlander geared up for towing your new travel trailer.

Let's begin with the hitch, if you don't already have one. I'd recommend the Curt # C13200 which is a confirmed fit unless your Highlander has a spare tire that's mounted on an aluminum rim. You'll also need a ball mount like # C93KR a hitch pin like # PC3 and a trailer ball like # 19260 for a 1-7/8 or # 63845 for a 2 inch diameter ball.

For a trailer wiring harness, since you're wanting to install a brake controller use # 22119. This wiring kit provides a 7-way trailer connector and is compatible with the Tekonsha P2 # 90885 you've already purchased.

I've linked to the installation instructions and install videos for the hitches I mentioned.
