Jeff: Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com.Today, we're going to take a look at this Hopkins heavy duty seven way to six pole round coiled trailer connector adapter. Now, if your trailer has a six pole round connector on it and you go to connect to your vehicle and you find out there's only a seven way RV blade connector on the vehicle, that would be a problem. Now, this adapter right here will solve that problem. This is a nice heavy duty coiled cable adapter. It is compatible to plug into the seven way RV blade connector that's on your vehicle and it'll adapt it to work with the six way connector that's on your trailer. Now, the thing you need to make sure is that that center pin on the six pole round trailer side connector must be a 12 volt power connection for this adapter to work. Now, this is a nice heavy duty coiled cable.

You can see when it's stretched, it's about three foot long, provides the extra reach while ensuring that the wire will not drag due to the flex coil design. Has a nice weatherproof jacketing on it. Easy grip connector on this end. Does use tin-plated terminals for corrosion resistance.Other nice feature on the six pole end, you can see it has this nice attached dust cap here that when you're not plugged in or using it, you can just put it on over there and it'll protect the terminals from the elements. And it also uses this swing away metal clamp right here you can see, that'll keep the connection to the six pole end on your trailer nicely attached.

So if you go to attach it, you just take your plug off, plug it into the six way, rotate that metal clamp up and it'll hold the two connections together, keeps them from coming apart. And then when you're done, just go ahead and put your . when you're not using it, go ahead and put your cap back on and you can swing this out of the way up against the cord. Very nice connection. But that should do it for the review on this Hopkins heavy duty seven way to six pole round coil trailer connector adapter.

The staff and products at etrailer are awesome

by:

Product came on time and worked great. I’ve never ordered from Amazon preferring to order directly from suppliers.

by:

The coiled trailer connector adapter I order was shipped the day after my order and I received this item quickly. Based on my smooth transaction with e-trailer, I would recommend this website to my friends. In fact this site was recommended to me by my son-in-law.

Just fine as I expected, thanks.

I bought a new truck last year which had an electrical plug that did not fit my horse trailer. The Hopkins adapter that I ordered from etrailer.com was received in a very timely manner. It also was a perfect fit I just plugged it in and was good to go. I used it the whole year with no problems. I would not hesitate to use etrailer.com again.

by:

This is the strangest product I've run into. Besides being to short the six wire end has male pins. Try to go to any auto parts store trailer outlet even to e.trailer.com and find a connector that is mounted on a vehicle and it will have a male end on it. Who in there right mind would want to have a connector mounted on there tow vehicle with a pig-tail that comes out from the mail connector mounted on the tow vehicle. That's the only part I could find. So I went to an auto parts store and got parts and assembled my own cable that will work just fine. Besides it is longer and won't pull out of it's connections when making turns; the coil is to stiff for even a short distance.

by:

Male pins. Useless. Had to buy the right cable from [online] .Love etrailer. Only reason not going 5 star is the 7 way to 6 way cable. 6 way has male pins. Useless and I bought the male receiver from etrailer too.

I do have a solution for you. For a flat tow install you would need part #HM47053 which would have a female end for the 6 pin connector.

by:

Super heavy duty. Perfect fit. Very well made and price is good for this product. My truck already had the towing package so the 7 blade end fit without any adapters, as well as the 6 pole end that hooks up to the trailer. Very satisfied.

by:

So glad to have this product, which fit my connector perfectly. Customer Service was very helpful in assisting me in purchasing the correct item.

by:

Excellent quality and heavy duty products. I could not locate these type of cords locally but found them at etrailer. The cords are doing the job just as I planned. Would recommend etrailer for your towing needs.

by:

Great deal.... Thanks! I looked all over for this type of adapter. Very hard to find. Thanks to you I am spared the task of making a hard wire change just to pull an old hay trailer for my Dad. Thanks again!!

by:

I got what I ordered, the process was easy, only took 2 days to get here.. They have good quality products!

by:

Greg S. was very helpful, etrailer prices are great.
This is why I have been a repeat customer.

by:

Well made quality product with smart pa ckaging.

  • Should Trailer Batteries for Powering Trailer Jack and Breakaway Kit Be Separate
You will need a second battery to power the lights and jack you mentioned as the breakaway kit battery would not be strong enough for that and since it has to be fully charged at all times you would not want to have any other circuits draining it. You can charge it and the breakaway battery at the same time though with the same charge wire from your junction box.

  • Can a Trailer Battery Be Charged through 12 Volt Circuit on Hopkins Coiled 7-Way to 6-Way Adapter
Trailer wiring on a vehicle or trailer can provide a maintenance charge only to a 12 volt battery (if it is a regular car type of battery) but the wiring is not heavy enough, nor are most vehicle alternators strong enough, to push back the amperage required to charge up a 12 volt battery. If it is a small breakaway battery then it can charge it up. So as long as the 12 volt circuit is working on the tow vehicle and the matching 12 volt circuit on the trailer side is connected to the positive...

  • Recommended 7-Way to 6-Pole Adaper with 12V Center Pin
The round 6-Way end of the Hopkins Endurance Flex-Coil Trailer Connector Adapter # HM47053 referenced in your question does feature a center pin but it is wired for the electric brake signal. If you need the center pin on the 6-Way to be wired for 12 volt power, I instead recommend the Hopkins # HM47083. This heavy-duty, coiled cable adapter can be stretched to 3 feet in length and will allow you to connect the 7-Way on your RV to the 6-Way connector on your towed vehicle or trailer.

  • Trailer Brakes Do Not Work When Using 7-Way to 6-Way Adapter with a 2010 Chevy Silverado
The problem that you are experiencing is likely happening because there are 2 different ways to wire a 6-Way trailer connector. The brake output pin will wither be the center pin or it will be in the 2 oclock position, if looking at the face of the trailer side connector. Which ever one that it is, the other one would be the 12 volt circuit. Normally when this happens the trailer brakes will immediately lock up. But it is possible because you have a Chevy truck that the 12 volt circuit...

  • Recommended 7-Way To 6-Way Trailer Connection
For a 7-Way to 6-Way, I recommend the Hopkins Heavy-Duty, Coiled Trailer Connector Adapter - 7-Way to 6-Pole Round - Center Pin Brake # HM47085 or the Hopkins Heavy-Duty, Coiled Trailer Connector Adapter - 7-Way to 6-Pole Round - Center Pin 12V Power # HM47083. The difference between these adapters is where the functions are connected on the 6 way. You will want to make sure your trailer matches the functions correctly. I've attached an article to help. If you are just needing to connect the 7-Way on your tow vehicle to the 6-Way on your trailer, I recommend using the Hopkins 7-Way to 6-Pole Adapter # HM47085 or # HM47083. These two adapters differ only in what the center pin is used for. If the center pin on your trailer side connector is for the electric brake signal, you will use # HM47085. If the center pin on the trailer connector is for 12-volt power, you will instead use # HM47083. One end of the adapter will plug into the 7-Way...

  • 7 Foot 7-Way Extension Recommendation
I believe the closest thing to what you want would be the 7-Way Connector Loop # 20027. This product is 7 feet long and would act as an extension for your 7-way connectors. Although it is longer than you said you needed you could loop up the excess and run a zip-tie around it to give you the right length.

  • Do Hopkins Trailer Wiring Adapters # HM47083 and # 47549 Do the Same Thing
Both of the Hopkins wiring adapters you referenced, parts # HM47083 and # 47549, will plug into a vehicle side 7-way socket and convert that connector format to a 6-way round-pin type. The main difference is that part # HM47083 includes a coiled cable that is 3-feet long when stretched fully while the # 47549 is just the adapter portion without the extension cable. Another difference is pin configuration. Usually 6-way connectors use the center pin for the trailer's 12V power feed. This...

  • 6-Way Vehicle to 7-Way Trailer Adapter Recommendation
We have exactly what you need. It sounds like you have a 6-way round connector on your 1999 Ford F-250 and need to tow a trailer with a 7-way blade connector. All you need is the adapter part # 47435. Check out the review video. The # HM47083 that you referenced is the opposite adapter you would need. It would be for if the vehicle had a 7-way and the trailer had a 6-way.

  • Wiring Up a 7-Way # 20246 to a Trailer without a Reverse Light Circuit
The center pin of the 7-way is the reverse light circuit, if your trailer does not have the need for a reverse light circuit then you do not have to use it. You would just connect all of the other wires and leave that one unused. To see how a 7-way typically gets wire up check out the picture I attached. You will want to wire the leads of the # 20246 by function to the trailer wiring. The yellow wire of the 7-Way # 20246 would not be used as it goes to the center pole.

Or you could use # HM47085 if you need the center pin to pin for electric brake output. These items are much shorter than the Hopkins glowing adapter.

  • Replacement 7-Way Plug and Lead to Replace Damaged One that Got Drug While Driving
You'll want to install a new plug and lead on your trailer to replace the damaged one. Would be a good idea to go with a longer one than you have now. The the adapter you referenced has a 7-way I am fairly certain that's the type of trailer connector you have. Especially since that's very common on camper trailers like you have. We have the part # 277-000143 which is a 7-way that has an 8 foot long lead that would work well.

  • Troubleshooting 6-Way to 7-Way Trailer Adapter Where Functions Arent Working Correctly
It is very likely that your 6-way is not wired for the 6-Pole to 7-Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter # 47435. Trailer wiring with 6-way connectors can have two ways the brake and hot are wired, so it is likely the 12V hot and brake output wires are not in the correct locations, which is easy to switch. This adapter is made for the 12v power to be the center pin of your 6-way and the pin in the 10 o'clock position for the brakes. You can verify this using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993....

The magnetic tow lights # SPL30B-6 only have stop, tail, and turn signal functions so the 12 volt circuit and brake output circuit won't even be used. So basically it does not matter if the center pin on the adapter is brakes or power. Also, the 6-Way on the tow lights can be opened up so you can change around the wire configuration if needed.
