Video Transcript for Blue Ox Tow Bar Wiring BX8861 Review

Today, we're going to be reviewing part number BX8861. This is the Blue Ox 4-Wire Coiled Electrical Cord with 4-Way Round Plugs. This is going to allow you to quickly and easily connect your towed vehicle to your RV using the durable insulated electrical cable. The 4-wire extension cord can be used for multiple towing applications. It's going to be ideal for running power from your RV to your towed vehicle. It's also going to include two 4-way round sockets that mount to the RV and one mounts to the towed vehicle for quick, easy hook up. All you have to do is connect your wires to the back of the socket and mount one of this to your RV and the other one to your towed vehicle.

The mount holes on this unit are going to be separated by 1 7/8, 7 inch, center around center, and they're going to measure a 1/4 inch by 3 16/17 inch. It's going to feature a spring-loaded lid. That way it's going to remain closed, we're not connected. That's designed to help keep out dirt and moisture and protect your connection points. It's also going to feature a finger grip at the bottom of the lid to easily open up the lid. The coil cable can expand to 7 feet, yet still contracts to prevent dragging and tangling, also making it really easy for a nice convenient storage. It's going to feature silicon and cased wire connections that are going to prevent corrosion.

This unit is going to be constructed at 16-gauge wire, and then the ground wire is going to be 12-gauge. Here on the connectors, they got easy to grip, or easy grip finger tabs as well, that way you can disconnect them really easily from the socket connector. That's going to do it for our review of part number BX8861. This is the Blue Ox 4-Wire Coiled Electrical Cord. .

We originally bought this product over two years ago from etrailer and we were happy with its performance. We did some annual maintenance on the tow bar so we decided to buy a new coil. We bought the second coil via [online retailer] (same manufacturer) and within a few days of using it we noticed it did not perform the same as our original purchase. We sent it back and reordered it from etrailer and we are again very happy with it.

I put this base plate on with the assistance of my wife very easy to install. Do recommend the video to install

Still working and looks great after thousands of miles of use.

This is a great kit to add rear lights to a Ford Focus because you have to remove the negative battery cable for towing. There is more then enough wire to complete the job of wiring the lights from the rear of the car to the front for a permanent installation.

by:

Replacement electrical cord to replace our existing wiring between car and motorhome that has seen all kinds of extreme weather during the last 10+ years. The outer jacket started to crack, but still works. Makes connection to our Brake Master towing system quick and easy.

by:

Not what i thought. Ends on the blue ox are a lot smaller than the ones on my truck and rv. So they will not fit without changing both plug ends on the truck and rv. That is what i was trying to avoid. Sorry I will have to return.

by:

As always etrailer delivered exactly what I wanted. Thanks

by:

  • Towing a 2007 Toyota Solara with a Chevy 3500 Pickup
There a few ways to do this. If your 2007 Toyota Solara has a manual transmission you can use a tow bar ans base plates to tow your vehicle. If your vehicle has the U151E transmission you would need a transmission lube pump to flat tow the vehicle or you could rent a tow dolly, which would hold the front wheels off the ground. You could also rent a 16 foot car hauler trailer. If your vehicle has the U250E transmission you will have to use a tow dolly or trailer to transport the Solara. If...

  • Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2005 Chevy Cobalt Behind a Motor Home
First, according to the research I did, the 2005 Chevy Cobalt is flat towable. Consult the vehicle owners manual to confirm. There are a total of 5 items you will need to flat tow a vehicle: base plates, tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking. Base plates: These provide a proper and secure attachment point on the vehicle for a tow bar. You can use Roadmaster EZ base plates # 523137-1. These will fit models with grille inserts but none of the base plates we carry will...

  • Will Blue Ox Bulb and Socket Kit Fit a 2010 Mazda5 to Tow on a Tow Dolly Behind a Motor Home
The Blue Ox bulb and socket kit, # BX8869, will fit your 2010 Mazda5. To add a 4-way round harness you will need # BX8861. You will want to check the owners manual on the motor home to make sure you can use both connectors at the same time. Too many lights could create too much draw on the system.

  • Base Plates and Flat Towing Equipment for 2009 Lincoln MKX
For the 2009 Lincoln MKX, you would need the Roadmaster # 4408-1 base plate kit. The # 4408-5 base plates fit 2011-2013 MKX models. The structure under the vehicle of the 2009 model is different enough from the 2011-2013 models that the parts are not interchangeable. According to Remco Towing, the 2009 MKX is capable of being flat towed if the speed is kept at 65 mph or lower, and the engine is started as often as possible to prevent the battery from being discharged. I would urge you...

  • Parts Recommended to Flat Tow a 2012 Honda CR-V Behind a Motor Home
First, you will want to consult the vehicle owners manual and/or Honda because in the research I did I found that Honda does not recommend flat towing the 2012 CR-V. The LX model may be the one exception but you will need to consult the vehicle owners manual to be sure. For base plates you can use # BX2258 that you have referenced. The compatible tow bars for this base plate set do mount to the RV receiver. These types of tow bars are preferred because they offer a better ride and performance....

  • Needed Tow Bar and Accessories to Flat Tow 2007 Jeep Liberty
In order to flat tow your Liberty, you will need to install a base plate kit. I would recommend the Roadmaster EZ4 Base Plate Kit, part # RM-521423-4. A base plate offers a safe and secure attachment point to the vehicle. This particular Roadmaster kit offers easily-removable drawbars. One they are removed, the bracketry is pretty much invisible. If you are mechanically inclined, you might be able to handle the installation, but it is fairly involved. Typically, an RV would have a receiver...

It sounds like you have a very good handle on what you need. The Roadmaster Sterling Tow Bar you referenced is indeed compatible with the # 1429-1 base plate kit. The # 1429-1 base plate is the correct base plate kit for your Wrangler Unlimited, as long as it is NOT equipped with the optional Mopar front skid plate. The # RM-155 bulb and socket kit is recommended by Roadmaster for use in the 2007 Wrangler Unlimited. The bulb will be fairly tight fit. The overwhelming benefit of the bulb...

First, there are 5 items you will need to flat tow your 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sport: base plates, tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking. Base plates provide the proper attachment point for a tow bar. Roadmaster has different base plates depending on how the vehicle is equipped, see link. After you select the base plates for your specific model, you will need a tow bar. I recommend the Falcon 2, # RM-520. It is the most popular Roadmaster tow bar. I have linked instructions...

First and most important, the 2001 Buick Century will need a transmission lube pump to safely be towed behind the Venture. Next, you will need a base plate kit for the front of the Century. The Blue Ox Base Plate Kit, # BX1509, would be a great choice. To attach the base plate kit to your Venture you will need a Tow Bar. If your Venture has a 2 inch hitch, the Blue Ox Alpha Tow Bar,...

The discontinued Roadmaster # 5250 tow bar is compatible with EZ4 style base plates like the # RM-521559-4. In addition to the tow bar and base plates, you will also need safety cables, a lighting solution and a supplemental braking system (required by law in most states). If you prefer a coiled safety cable, the # RM-643 is a good choice. For a straight cable, I would recommend # RM-645. There are special instructions for the automatic transmission you will want to look at so be sure to check your owners manual. You will need 5 items to flat tow your fit. You are correct, the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, item # 118420, is designed to tow a trailer with your Fit, not to tow the Fit behind a motorhome. The # 118420 harness will not work for towing the Fit, so you will need a different wiring harness altogether. There are several options for tow bar wiring for the 2010 Honda Fit.
