still working!!

Had hand truck with 5/8” axel. Lost an axel cap moving lawn & garden debris bags. Checked Lowe’s & Home Depot hard-to-find hardware trays to no avail. Largest size was 1/2 “. Found your company on Internet while searching “axel caps”—it was among first to pop up! Ordered a bag of extras as I know eventually I will lose another! Thanks to etrailer, I found the right sized axel cap—and I don’t even own a trailer!

Doing what its supposed to do.

Purchased this for my air compressor wheel axle. I couldn’t find this size at multiple stores where I live. Searched on etrailer, ordered them, and received them quickly. Air compressor now has new wheels and are firmly in place.

One year later, my compressor wheels are still held in place solidly.

Perfect part for our job

by:

My hand truck lost it's friction fastener that keeps the wheel on the axle. This inexpensive, but highly functional, fastener solved the problem.

Exactly what I needed. Last year, I bought a [trash can] from [hardware store]. It's a fantastic product, but it uses 5/8" pal nuts to hold the wheels on the axle.

When one became dislodged and lost, my trash can was out of commission. A trip to [hardware store] and [industrial supplies company] was unsuccessful, and [trash can brand] only offered entire wheel kits for their products. etrailer saved the day by carrying these and selling them in small quantities.

by:

Needed 2 to hold the wheels on my pressure washer and could not find any at the hardware stores around here. Just what I needed and so far are working good.

Still working after a year !

by:

Got it right the first time and out the door. I had the order 5 days after ordering.

by:

Holds roller shaft in place on my boat trailer.

by:

I needed to replace a wheel on a recycling container and this nut was the EXACT replacement part. A Harbor Freight wheel and this nut were the low cost repair and had me rolling again quickly. Shipping was very quick and allowed tracking.

by:

I had to cut the old caps off in order to replace wagon wheels. These replacement caps worked great and are still holding the wheels on.

by:

I looked in all the usual places for a simple part; a 5/8" axle cap for a two wheel dolly. No one had anything bigger than 1/2". Even on the net, I did come across one other source but you had to but quantity. So I was very happy to find etrailer. I got the part in a couple of days. The price was very reasonable. i'll keep them on my list for future searches.

by:

can't figure out why 3 axle capnuts couldn't be mailedto rosebud,mo. directly. instead package left st.louis area, went to Kansas city, back to st.louis and then to rosebud. thank goodness it was free shipping. other than that , yes they are axle cap nuts.

by:

Just as implied. Better than the product at the local tractor supply store

Never failed. Still good

by:

I spent weeks trying to find this exact product in any hardware store in my area. It was impossible. Luckily a friend gave me etrailer's website and I found it within minutes! Ordered it and it was the perfect fit. And so cheap too!

by:

The cap nuts I received were a perfect fit and work great. It’s good to have my boat trailer back in service.

by:

Good product. Secured the wheels on my two wheel hand dolly. Etrailer service was even better. This small order was quickly shipped & I had my product in a very few days.

by:

We used this to replace the axle cap on a two-wheel dolly and Tom, our tool man, reports that it, "fits perfect."

  • Installing Pal Nuts On Trailer Rollers
To attach a pal nut (part # CE10801) to the end of a roller shaft, you would simply tap it into place with a hammer or mallet. The easiest way to do this is fully assemble the roller, shaft and bracket before installing it on the trailer. Place the pal nut on the floor, open end up. Place the shaft through the roller and place roller and shaft in the bracket. Then, turn the assembly on its side with the shaft inserted into the pal nut on the floor. Place the other pal nut on the other...

  • How to Remove a Pal Nut
A pal nut is not re-usable, so there is no need to be overly gentle when removing it. Simply grab the nut with a pair of pliers and bend it off. Once you apply a bit of pressure, the nut will bend which will allow you to easily remove it. We offer replacement pal nuts for a 5/8 inch roller shaft, part # CE10801.

  • How to Remove Cap Nut on Roller Shaft
Cap nuts, like the part # CE10801, are best removed with a pair of pliers to pry it off. Since these are intended to be used only once you need to make sure you have some replacements handy for when you need to put them back on. This part is for a 5/8" roller shaft. If you need something else I have linked our selection for you to check out.

  • Can a Rubber Cap Replace a Pal Nut on a Roller on a Boat Trailer
A lot of people use the rubber end cap # DL21558 but I would prefer to use a pal nut myself because it seems more secure to me since rubber is more pliable than metal. I would just trust a pal nut more. Go with a pal nut # CE10801 for a 5/8 inch diameter shaft.

  • Installing Boat Trailer Roller Assembly
The CE Smith Spool Roller Assembly for Boat Trailers - Galvanized Steel and Black Rubber - 4" # CE32100G can simply have a pal nut removed to pull out the pin and remove the roller and then install the bracket. Reinstall the pin and roller with the pal nut/cap nut. If you do this carefully it won't damage the pal nut, however if you don't then you can use # CE10801 to replace it. It is possible to install the unit without removing the roller depending on the angle you use for the hardware.

  • How to Install Boat Keel Rollers When Replacing V Bunks on Trailer
It looks like you are on the right track. I would use the Universal Roller Brackets, # MBSPB, that you mentioned along with a 8 inch Long Keel Roller, # DL21712, a 5/8 inch Steel Shaft, and two pal nuts # CE10801. All of this is dependent on your trailer having and 8 inch area that the brackets can be installed in and adjusted for the roller to contact the keel of the boat. If you would like to send photos of the boat trailer, I would be glad to make a more specific recommendation.

  • What is the Best Way to Remove a Pal Nut
The best way to remove a pal nut would be to either pry it off with a screwdriver or use a pair of pliers to wrestle it off the shaft. Pal nuts are considered a one-time use item, so you do not need to be gentle removing them. If you need a replacement, we offer pal nuts for a 5/8 inch diameter roller shaft as part # CE10801.

  • How to Reinstall a Missing Pal Nut on a Keel Roller
It sounds like you had a pal nut like # CE10801 come off. Have a helper get a piece of lumber like a piece of 2x4 and hold the end of it up against the pal nut on the other side of the roller. That will give you something to hit against when you install the nut on the other side of the roller shaft. If you're missing the pal nut, we offer them for 5/8 inch roller shafts as the part # CE10801 you'd looked at or for a 1/2 inch, use # CE10800.

  • How Much Shaft is Used When Installing Roller with Palnuts
To give you an idea how much length of a shaft the # CE10801 takes up the part # CE10401G is a roller assembly that holds a 5 inch long roller and the shaft length is overall 6-1/4 inches. So that means you pick out the shaft length by adding 1-1/4 inches to the length of the roller you are using. This setup uses the same palnuts.

  • If Cap Nut Measurement the Total Width
The measurements for the 1/2" Cap Nut # CE10800 and 5/8" Cap Nut # CE10801 are referring to the cap portion. The correct cap nut will be the one that has the corresponding diameter of your roller shaft.

  • Does Clip Need to be Installed to Keep Replacement Cap Nut # CE10801 on Roller Shaft
The Replacement Cap Nut # CE10801 that you referenced does not require a pin or other accessory to stay on a 5/8" roller shaft. It was designed to stay in place during the normal use of your roller shaft.

  • Availability of Replacement Cap for 1/2" Roller Shaft
We do have 1/2" replacement cap nuts just like the CE Replacement Cap Nut # CE10801 that you referenced. The 1/2" diameter cap nut is listed as part # CE10800 on our site. If you would like to have a few extra on hand then I recommend going with the part # CE10800A instead which includes a quantity of 8.

  • What Secures the Yates Keel Roller part # YR800Y to the Roller and Bracket
If you have a Yates Keel Roller part # YR800Y, the bracket it installs onto, and a roller but no way to secure it all together you are only missing pal nuts. For that you would want the part # 408600. To attach a pal nut (part # CE10801) to the end of a roller shaft, you would simply tap it into place with a hammer or mallet. The easiest way to do this is fully assemble the roller, shaft and bracket before installing it on the trailer. Place the pal nut on the floor, open end up. Place...

  • Boat Trailer Roller Brackets and Pal Nuts
Most boat trailer bow and keel rollers do use pal nuts like # CE10801 to secure the rubber roller to the support shaft and mounting bracket. From your photo I cannot tell quite what type of set-up you have. Since most of our rollers use galvanized mounts like # CE10403G and the others shown on the other linked page it may be easier and safer to install a new roller bracket.

The easiest way to figure out the length of the Keel Roller that you need is to measure the distance between the brackets on the roller assembly. • Securing Keel and Bow Rollers to a Bracket on a Boat Trailer
When installing rubber rollers like a keel or bow roller there are a couple of parts in addition to the roller you usually need. First, the roller needs to mount to a bracket of some kind. For example, if you are using a 5/8 inch steel shaft you could use the One Piece Bracket, # 408300. The bracket bolts to the trailer, the shaft goes through the compatible roller and bracket and it is held on the bracket using 2 Pal Nuts (Qty 1), # CE10801. Like any part, over time, the pal nuts may...
