Having a propane or carbon monoxide gas leak in your RV is a scary situation that you don't want to even think about let alone experience. But this detector will give you peace of mind knowing that if there are dangerous levels of either, it'll quickly and accurately warn you and your family so you can get out of the RV and into fresh air.

Hard-to-Miss Visual and Audible Cues

When carbon monoxide is detected, the red LED will flash, and the horn will blare 4 times. When propane gas only or both propane and CO are detected, the red LED will come on, and the horn will be constant. And because the sensors are highly selective, they're designed to only sound the alarm for lethal gases, reducing the number of false alarms that occur in non-threatening scenarios.

It'll also alert you when the battery is low or when the detector has reached the end of its life and needs to be replaced, so you never have to be without protection.

Easy to Test and Silence

RV Safe Propane and CO Detector

To double check that the detector is operating normally, you can easily use the button on the front to test the propane sensor, carbon monoxide sensor, and battery voltage. You should test your detector every time it's taken out of storage and before it's taken out for each camping trip. This button also lets you silence the horn up to 5 minutes during non-life-threatening situations. So, you can turn off that annoying racket in the middle of the night while you're trying to hunt for a new battery.

Surface-Mount, Bolt-On Installation

The 2 included universal mounting brackets allow this detector to replace 90 percent of all OEM surface-mount and flush-mount detectors. This detector can replace most Atwood and Dometic branded detectors, as well as Safe-T-Alert 20 series, 25 series, 30 series, 35 series, 40 series, 45 series, and 65 series detectors.

Because propane gas is heavier than air, it'll settle near the floor, so this detector should be installed 4" to 18" from the floor to accurately detect the presence of gas. Also make sure that the detector is located in an area that isn't near a window or door, behind furniture or drapes, or in a closet. It also shouldn't be installed with 24" near a stove, oven, fridge, or furnace.

The detector installed easily and was quite invisible/flat against the wall. I tested it with an unlit propane burner and also with 2 large garbage bags filled with car exhaust. Both worked perfectly and we now feel more at ease when going to sleep, knowing that we will be warned in the event of a propane or carbon monoxide exposure.

by:

Replaced existing alarm. Did not realize these things have a 5 year life span. Now noted. New holes did not exactly line up, but no big deal as cover plate hides old holes. Easy replacement - 10 minute job.

by:

Placed order on Monday product received on Thursday. Installation was easy only needed use of a bottle jack and socket wrench. The ride was improved and side to side sway in windy conditions is much less. Test conditions wind 15mph with 30mph gusts.

by:

Was able to get replacement as old unit is no longer available, arrived early and appears to be ease to install.

by:

Excellent replacement. Nice that a couple cover plates are included to cover preexisting cutout.
Easy ordering and quick delivery by etrailer as always

by:

Great! Easy to install and fit the space perfectly.

by:

Great item for the price and EZ install. Replaced old faulty unit that would go off all hours of the day and night with this low profile unit. Tammie at etrailer was a great help with selecting the correct item with fast and free shipping.

by:

This unit was easy to install and works perfectly! Highly recommend as a replacement for original from factory.

by:

Great product and easy to install, we are happy with the detector!

by:

This detector worked perfectly as a replacement for the original detector in my 2019.5 LTV Unity MB24+.

by:

Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy! After 6 years, Atwood detector finally decided it was done. Found this little number and was so easy, I was done in 5 minutes (most of which was finding a pair of pliers). Cross my fingers it never detects anything but feel much better that we have a working one now.

by:

Great customer service from initial order to delivery!! Detector/alarm arrived several days early and in great condition... Good instructions and easy to install... Alarm was tested and is working as designed... Great experience all around - Thanks!

by:

Arrived when expected and exactly as described. Perfect fit replacement. Thank you.

by:

This is a replacement for a bad alarm. Only thing that kept it from a 5 star is that I had to get a white color replacement instead of the black color.

by:

Does what it is made to do

by:

Great price and great product

by:

Fits over the old recessed hole. Looks great.

by:

Slim and nice fit.

by:

Quick delivery in safe packaging. Perfect fit, no plastic adaptors needed. Worked as intended. I trust E-Trailer.

by:

Good product, arrived quickly and on time. Ordering was easy and fast. eTrailer.com upgraded shipping at no additional charge. will use eTrailer.com again. New to RVing.

by:

The original propane detector in our camper is now obsolete. This model fit over the original cut out. Looks clean.

by:

An overlooked aspect of RV ownership, update these on a regular basis.

by:

Received unit that came with two adapter covers to fit existing hole. Hooked up and worked right away. Simple instructions and good looking piece of equipment. Arrived on time, thank you.

by:

This was a great replacement for the failed Atwood model that was installed.

by:

I was tired of buying carbon monoxide detectors from West Marine for my boat, and none of them performed as good as this one, I am very happy with the purchase.

  • Troubleshooting Atwood RV Carbon Monoxide Detector That Has Blinking Light When Hooked To Batteries
Since the Atwood RV Carbon Monoxide and Propane Gas Detector AT36681 you have is not blinking when you are hooked up to shore power, and only when running off the batteries I recommend checking the wiring connections to the battery which could have come loose. If you find that all of the connections are correct then replacing the unit with a new one will be required to make sure it is properly monitoring your trailer from harmful Carbon Monoxide or Propane Gas. Since the AT36681 you have...

  • Carbon Monoxide / Propane Gas Alarm Availability & Recommendation
Currently, the carbon monoxide and propane gas alarms we carry are made by RV Safe and are highly rated. Sadly, we do not carry the SAFE-T-ALERT alarm you describe. The alarms we do carry, the # RS54FR in Black or the # RS34FR in White will safely monitor the carbon monoxide and propane gas levels in your unit.

While we do have some carbon monoxide and propane alarms, we do not specifically carry the Safe-T-Alert 70-742. This is because we do not carry Safe-T-Alert products. With that being said, we do have the RV Propane Gas and Carbon Monoxide Detector - 12 Volt - 2 Wire # RS54FR (black) and the # RS34FR (white). These detectors come with a compact, slim design and quickly and efficiently alert you for hazardous levels of propane and carbon monoxide inside your RV or camper. I went ahead...

The SS961-RV-Low power is not something I can find the dimensions on so I can't give you a model with matching dimensions. I do recommend the 2-Wire RV Propane Gas and Carbon Monoxide Detector in White # RS34FR or Black # RS54FR to use as a replacement. • Carbon Monoxide Detector and Propane Detector for RV Installation/Operation
Your detector going off is usually a sign of low power voltage. Detectors can run off household batteries or wired directly to your 12-volt trailer battery. If you have power properly supplied then troubleshoot the detector location. It should be near the floor and not next to a propane appliance like a stove, and not in direct sunlight. If you have a defective unit you can replace it with the RVSafe # RS34FR detector

  • Do RV Carbon Monoxide Detectors Use Internal Batteries
Some propane/carbon monoxide detectors use household batteries to operate, but most connect directly to the trailer 12 volt battery system. If your detector finds low voltage from internal batteries, or the trailer battery, it will chirp to alert you. Internal battery locations will vary. If you need a replacement detector I recommend the RVSafe # RS34FR. It runs entirely off of your trailer battery so you will not need to worry about changing batteries.

  • Amp Draw vs Battery Life for the RV Propane Gas and Carbon Monoxide Detector
The RV Propane Gas and Carbon Monoxide Detector # RS34FR has a current draw of 17 mA at 13.5V so you just need to determine how many amp hours your battery bank can hold compared to the current draw to determine this. The 17 mA is going to be pretty miniscule especially if this detector is the only thing drawing power from the battery bank. With that being said, if your RV will be sitting for long periods of time then it's never a bad idea to add a small trickle charge solar panel kit...

Additionally do not mount within 12" of any opening windows, exterior doors, fans, vents, or areas with a draft. Yes, the RV Propane Gas and Carbon Monoxide Detector # RS34FR can be used to replace your 3-wire Atwood Detector. Most likely you have power directly from the battery with the second being wired to your trailer's DC distribution panel in the power center. You can just cap off the secondary power when installing the # RS34FR.
