Will Lippert SolidSteps Work for You?
Fold-down steps are typically installed on travel trailers and some RVs. The fold-down steps from Lippert lift up to latch into your camper's doorway for storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.
The Lippert SolidSteps install inside your camper's doorframe. Measuring for this may seem tricky, but once you know what to look for, figuring out the right fit for your RV doorway is easy.
Measure between the door frame flanges - the doorway width - to determine the step size that will fit into your camper's doorway. You will need a doorway that is at least 25" wide to 28-7/8" wide for these steps to work.
If it turns out you have a wider or narrower doorway, there are other step assemblies that fit doorways ranging from 24" wide to 36" wide. A full list of the available steps is below.
To make sure your doors will close when the steps are installed, measure from the top of the threshold plate to the bottom of the door. You will need a gap of about 1/4" to 3/8" to allow the door to close over the step's mounting plate.
The doorway threshold will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.
How Many Steps Do You Need?
To decide on how many steps you'll need, measure from the mounting point to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, and it will tell you how many steps you need.
Once you know your doorway width and entry heigh measurements, the chart below will tell you which part number you need. This page's step assembly is in bold text.
Doorway Width | Entry Height | etrailer Part Number |
---|---|---|
24" | 22" - 28" | LC713662 |
25" - 28.9" | 22" - 28" | LC733931 |
27" - 36" | LC791572 | |
35" - 44" | LC791574 | |
29" - 36" | 22" - 28" | LC733932 |
27" - 36" | LC791573 | |

How Do You Install the Steps?
To install the steps:
-Secure the hardware (not included) but dont tighten
-If necessary, loosen the bolts on the latching arm to adjust

Aluminum fold-down steps with 13" deep top step attach to the threshold of your RV. Designed to fit 25" to 28-7/8" wide doorways. Industry standard 8" drop/rise between steps. Adjustable legs keep the steps level on uneven ground. We had to replace our steps from our 2021 new Bullet because somebody ran over it while we were in a parking stop. This was the exact same steps and we just had to screw them with the same metal screw without screwing under the floor. Ten minutes and it was done.
Works great! With the old steps we had to haul a wooden platform in case the bottom step was too high for my wife to step up comfortably. We no longer have to haul it because these steps adjust to the varying ground level.

We loved them. We purchased a new camper last month and it came with Lippert steps.
Great customer service. The fit on our Alfa Gold 5th wheel unfortunately required some serious modification on the threshold area, and the bottom of both the main door and the screen door for the doors to close properly. The screen door required additional modification to allow the doors to close with the step in the stowed position, as the frame hit the latches on the stowage lock. Once the required modifications were completed, which added at least 4 hours to the installation time, the step works great! It is easy to deploy
and stow, and is much more stable than the original step. Without the modifications required on my trailer, installation would be simple, but I would caution anyone against self-installation if they don't have access to a pretty wide selection of power tools and some fabrication experience.
If you want a 'solid step', this is a solid buy. 10/10 for sure!
I installed these in my '22 Winnebago 2225RL. The step and installation are super simple. Including taking out my old steps, it took me 30-40 minutes total including adjusting the locking mechanism.
The installation instructions are really easy to follow. I didn't have to remove my old threshold, but that is not true for everyone. So check this first before you go drilling into anything. I attached some pictures to give a before and after view.
The installation went like this for me...Make sure you're rig is level. Make sure the hinge is folded closed before starting. Lay your steps out, center it in the door, and adjust the feet accordingly. Test your door! Test it several times to make sure nothing is going to bind and that you have clearance in all the right places.
You'll see one hole on either side of the Solid Step black threshold that allows you to drill and screw in your first two connections. Once those are complete, fold up your steps and adjust your locking mechanism so that it closes and latches correctly. After you've got everything working the way you want, install the remaining screws or bolts (based on your type of floor) and secure it all down. Enjoy your new steps!
My wife and I are both over 80 years old. We installed the Lippert rv step because it was getting difficult to get up and down the old steps. We added the hand rail. They were easy to install. I would recommend these to anyone. They are solid and well built.
I purchases this set for my 2018 Rockwood Roo BDS. I had to modify my sill plate slightly to get these to fit my camper perfectly. These steps are worth every cent. They are drastically more stable than the factory steps. The legs can easily be adjusted for unlevel sites and they easily fold up with one hand.
Very satisfied and the steps are holding up very well.
Easy to install, if you use rv camp grounds they are great, I have a toy hauler and go off road and sometimes there is rocks, soft dirt even mud. When you put your steps up anything on those steps end up in your rv. I carry two small 6X6X1 plastic pads and that works most of the time. Thanks Russ
took alittle bit of adjustment to get screen door to close but overall a great product very pleased

Excellent ! Feel much safer than OEM steps. Only downfall is the leg extenders. Are alittle tricky to operate. Better design would be helpful
Very good product I would definitely recommend it to anyone needing to upgrade their steps on their Camper. Thanks etrailer
These steps have been a great upgrade for our camper. 1 year in and I couldn’t be happier with them- so much stronger and much more supportive than the original folding style that came with the camper. If you’re thinking about getting these - just confirm your doorway size and go for it.
Hi all,
It’s been a year since we purchased our steps. I had slid down our old steps on a rainy morning so I came home and immediately ordered from etrailer (our go to source). I wanted a wide first landing step and this is perfect . It is adjustable to our various ground levels so that is a plus. . This is a very stable step. I would recommend it!
Package was delivered to front porch. Very Very disappointing. Cardboard on one entire side of the carton was open. I haven't checked to see if any parts are missing. If they are, rest assured you will hear about it.

Yikes, I am sorry that it arrived that way. I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you and make sure everything was there.
The solid step is a great upgrade for our 2018 hybrid shamrock 233s. It eliminated the side roll when kids jump on the factory underside mounted steps. I would highly recommend adding this to your camper.
Unfortunately, the steps arrived the sameday my camper went to the shop for repairs. so I will not be installing these until we get the camper back. i normally give etrailer 5 stars but as the pictures show this box arrived with packing tape on the sides of the box , on the corners and accross the top where the box was damaged. I open the box to inspect and not sure what was included. With the stairs was a bag of screws. no instructions. I would suggest that the packaging needs to be improved. I hope once i start the install that the step are in working condition.
Very happy with the steps, install was easy, took about 30 mins and most of that was fighting the rust on the old steps. The bounce in my old steps killed my knees over a long weekend and these are rock solid!! The star of this review is Etrailer! I had originally ordered these from Amazon and after 2 shipping delays and them never actually leaving the warehouse I cancelled my order. Placed the order for these at 2 pm on a Sunday afternoon, by 6 pm UPS had them and I had a tracking number and they were $20 cheaper than Amazon! Etrailer will be my go to for absolutely anything trailer or camper related from now on!
So much more stable than what came with the trailer.
Excellent product replacing original steps on 2013 Forest River Surveyor. Only fitment issue per Lippert instructions placed hinge plate too high and door would not close. Easy fix, cut threshold section out to allow hinge plate sit flush on floor. Fits great, looks great, high quality product.
Ez installation after watching video wife loves these steps
Nice solid steps, very easy installation. Fast shipping.
Positives: This was a simple installation. The hardest part was removing the old steps-took 2 of us (and a few grunts!). I filed off the inner lip on the threshold and removed the transition strip to make things as level as possible prior to installation. It took about 3/4 hour to finish install after that. Great product, (first in-field use will be Thursday 10/8/20).
Negatives: The shipping carton was trashed and loose parts were strewn throughout. I didn't receive the 4" #10 machine screws, washers, and lock nuts, so I used the wood screws but I'm pretty sure I'll need to through bolt the assembly to the trailer in the future. LCI - replacements please? Also, ordered clevis pins with bimini rings for easier support strut length adjustment.
Overall: Very Positive Upgrade-Easy & Useful. I would recommend to anyone who wants a better steps than the OEM.

One year later and we’re very pleased with our purchase. Absolutely no problems and they provide a sturdier platform to get into our trailer. No complaints. We would purchase again.
Solid step. Steps are nice and wide for secure feeling.
I bought these steps as a gift for my son, on his trailer, replacing the original fold-away style. He tells me the difference is between night and day for how much better these new steps are. They feel so much more stable to go up and down on and stepping out of the trailer onto the larger platform of the top step is an additional bonus for security.
The only issue with these steps is how they have to hinge over the door sill. Depending on the style of your sill, you may need to make a modification to the sill plate in order to allow the step hinge to swing all the way into place. We had to make this mod. on his trailer or the hinge plate would not be low enough to clear the bottom of the main door or the screen door. This was not the easiest mod. to do, but once completed, everything fits and he couldn't be happier!
I have the same steps on my trailer and they fit without any modifications required. I also think they are the best option out there!
item is accurate in description = easy assembly! Feels much safer using the steps in and out of the RV now.
Once installed, it is definitely solid! Installed it in 20 minutes which included removing the 10 screws, moving the steps tighter to the outside threshold. (Instructions aren’t real clear as to which flange is supposed to be tight to the threshold, outside or inside). I pre-positioned the latches to “close” to what would be the installed position as I was doing this by myself so that after installing the first two screws, I could put the steps into the closed position and have it latch while I installed the remaining 8 screws. I then tweaked the latches to their final position and tightened the bolts.
Installed on Grand Design Imagine 2670MK
Awesome order processing, this company knows customer service better than almost all of the companies that I deal with, and their products are top shelf at low shelf pricing.
