Video Transcript for Reese Weight Distribution RP6637 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number RP6637. These are the Reese replacement lift brackets for Reese Weight Distribution Systems. The brackets are going to mount on the trailer tongue and they're going to provide the connection points for the chainS that are connected to the weight distribution spring bars. Those chains are going to connecT right here to this little hook. The lift bar attaches to the handle, right here. That's going to make lowering and raising the spring bars much easier and safer.

That lift handle is included. The replacement unit is designed for use with Reese Weight Distribution Systems. You're also going to get your two safety pins. They through this area right here. That's going to keep the brackets in the raised position. These are made from a steel construction and they're going to have a nice black powder coat finish which is going to make it stand up well against rust and corrosion.

You're going to get two snap up brackets. You're going to get the two pins, your installation bolts will go into this slot back here. You're going to get the left handle. Now these are going to install approximately thirty inches back from the coupler. If we take a measurement of the width, that's going to let us know about how much room along the trailer frame it's going to take up. From edge to edge that looks to be about five and a half inches so it's going to take up about five and a half inches of space along the trailer frame.

If we measure the opening here, you see that measures just a little over two and a half inches. So this will not fit trailer frames that are wider than two and a half inches. That's going to do it for today's review of part number RP6637. These are the replacement lift brackets for the Reese Weight Distribution Systems.

Great price! Great item, only one reason giving 4 instead of 5 stars. In the enclosed instructions, they read pre-drilled holes to hard mount to trailer frame. These are not pre-drilled, not "etrailer"s fault. I presume that is a "Reese" production change, but don't feel right not expressing a little "irritation" that I now have to drill holes in the brackets as well as my trailer frame.

by:

I bought these to replace a bent bracket. Decided to replace as a pair. Work great on my Reese trunnion bar setup. Shipping didn't take long. Having installation instructions included was a nice touch.

by:

These weight distribution brackets really helped my trailer hitch weight. I am glad that they really helped when I pull my toy hauler. Thanks for your products.

They work very good. It pulls up the weight off of my hitch how ever much I want! Thanks for your products.

by:

Lift brackets were not quite a direct replacement for my WD hitch (a ProPride 3P), but they work great and are much easier/quicker to use. The paint wears off near the pivot points and where the chain goes. Every so often, I take them off and re-paint them so they look pretty. After a year, they still work great, but there is very slight wear where the chain hooks up.

by:

Arrived early which helps my schedule this week, thanks a lot.

by:

Just what I expected. Thank You

by:

Delivered on time and was an exact fit for the old ones. The retaining pins seem kind of small but haven't done any towing yet to see how they hold up.

by:

Always had excellent service with e-trailer. I ordered parts for an equalizing hitch, was advised that if I ordered under a different part number I would get faster delivery at a cheaper price and quicker delivery and a free handle. So I did, thanks e-trailer.

by:

The lift brackets fit the sway bars we got from our neighbor. Worked very well. Wish the transmission on the old Suburban we previously used with the bars, worked as well. The "new to us" F-350 diesel 4x4 should remedy that problem. A bit over kill, but was what we could find at the time. Thanks.

Perfect - we have used it and it works well - used for over a month last summer - will be using again this summer. Thanks for having replacement parts.

by:

Very happy with the brackets. The pins look a bit flimsy so I replaced them with better lockable ones.

by:

So easy to install and works great! The trailer pulls much better with the equalizer hitch installed. These were parts to put on a second trailer in order to use a hitch I already had. Very timely delivery and easy installation!
Great source for parts! Thanks everyone.

by:

I received excellent assistance when contacting etrailer by phone, trying to determine the correct piece-items needed for my new trailer, to replace the parts for my Reese Sway-Control/Wt Distribution system that I "lost" when selling my old trailer.
they were polite, patient and helpful.
This hardware set, as well as the Lift brackets and Dual-sway Cams were as heavy-duty as needed (as described) and will be putting them onto my new trailer as soon as I pick, it up.

by:

Very pleased with the products, perfect fit to my already weight distribution hitch. shipping was fast and the package was surprisingly wrapped better than I thought it would have been. the brake controller was the easiest to install, Just connect the cable to the connector under the dash and it works. Just read the instructions on setting the power level for your trailer brakes. that is very important. Sorry about no pictures bad weather while installing but will take pictures of finished product. Thanks again

by:

this is a Reese product, I expect it to be good and it is. fits and works as represented. The price, customer service and shipping was great.

Lots of long heavy miles . Works fone

by:

I bought these for a second trailer. My load leveling hitch now works for both trailers. I'm happy with these.

by:

Exactly what I was looking for. used for our travel trailer.

Excellent!

by:

Waited until I actually used them to review. I put them on an 18' car trailer to haul my tractor with. Night and day difference in towing! I will be drilling and bolting them on directly now that I'm sure of the positioning.

by:

I have not installed the lift brackets on my trailer, but cannot find any reason that they would not work as designed. It is winter in the northeast and I will not install for a while. These lift brackets will definitely aid in hauling my 4500lb enclosed car hauler trailer.

by:

I bought a new camper and wanted to go out camping the next week but i needed weight distribution brackets and a an anti sway mount before i could go. I ordered these parts from etrailer.com and in a matter of a few days the correct parts showed up and i was able to install them before i needed to leave for my camping trip. Needless to say i was very happy.

by:

We purchased Reese hitch accessories from etrailer.com and are very satisfied with our purchase.

by:

I am very pleased with lift brackets
from Reese and the quality is top notch. I will use etrailer when ever I need items you carry.
Sorry I don't have a picture.

by:

i purchased these lift brackets as i will be using a weight dist system on my race car trailer to buy them was a great price from etrailer for both sides for weigh dist lift brackets

by:

E-trailer is great to work with. I was not sure which lift brackets would work, e trailer made it easy with all the videos and information.
I received the product in just a few days and it took me 10 minutes to hook it up.

Thanks e trailer I will be back for all my towing needs.

by:

Can't really give a review on the product because we never received it. It was delivered by UPS to the wrong address and neither UPS or etrailer would take blame for it. We even were asked to drive where it was delivered to pick it up, but no one claimed to receive it. We had paid for 3 day shipping, needed the part to pick up our camper in 2 days, but apparently etrailer could not help us. Had to rush to find the piece elsewhere.

by:

When I called Etrailer I had a polite sales rep, Gwen on the line right away. She knew just what I was asking for. she showed me a photo of the part to verify it was correct and had it ordered in minutes. The part showed up the next day! Free Shipping/!!

Good Job Gwen, Good Job etrailer.com

  • Will Reese Lift Brackets # RP6637 work on a Trailer with 788 lbs of Tongue Weight
The Replacement Lift Brackets, # RP6637, will fit on trailer frames that are 3 inches tall or greater and up to 2-1/2 inches wide along the top. As long as your trailer has a frame with those measurements you would be fine to use these hangers on your trailer with 8,600 lbs total weight and 788 lbs of tongue weight. You will want to use a weight distribution system with spring bars that encompass the tongue weight of your trailer when it is loaded. Tongue weight also includes the weight...

  • Installation Instructions for the Reese Weight Distribution System Tip Up Brackets # RP6637
The Reese Weight Distribution System Tip Up Brackets, item # RP6637, are designed so that they can be installed with just the bolts wedged against the trailer frame, or they can be bolted to the frame. Most people opt to just tighten the frame bolts and leave it at that, so that they do not have to drill into the trailer frame. I have linked a set of installation instructions for you to review, on page 3 you will find the instructions for installing the tip up brackets.

I added a photo of the brackets on a 2 inch by 3 inch trailer frame for you to see. The lift brackets mounting bolt is also long enough to accommodate a C channel style frame. These brackets will require 5-1/2 inches of space along the length of your 4 inch trailer frame for installation. This means that you will need 5-1/2 inches along the frame...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for 6K and 7K Trailers Towed by GMC Denali
Weight distribution (WD) systems need to be tuned to the actual fully-loaded trailer tongue weight (TW) in order to work properly. 6K and 7K trailers could have similar tongue weights, which would allow one system to work with both, apart from the need to swap out hitch balls. You'll want to check the actual trailer TWs and add to that the weight of anything that sits behind the Denali's rear axle, since that too acts like trailer TW. Typically a properly loaded trailer's TW will be 12...

Based on your trailer's GTW, your tongue weight should be around 850 lbs. If so, the trunnion bars you have (rated for a tongue weight of 600 lbs. - 1,200 lbs.) will work for you.
