Replacement Parts for Reese Weight Distribution System with Dual Cam Sway Control
Question:
Hi. When my parents stopped using their travel trailer they passed it to me along with the Reese Cam HP sway control, product 26002. I have since sold their trailer and purchased a new one. I kept the Reese sway control unit and had it mounted on the new trailer. When doing it, the mechanic made reference to one of the sway control arms being bent, but it all appeared to be working properly once attached. However, the unit has always made a very loud screeching and popping noise when making even R or L turns. Recently the snap up bracket on the driver side bent along with the bolt that held it in place. We replaced the snap up bracket only for the next one to bend open even further. I do acknowledge that I should have removed the spring bars when backing, but now the bracket bent open even more when traveling forward In looking at some of the QandAs on your site I see where I can replace the snap up bracket with a more reinforced one. I also need to replace the hanger bracket as it is bent. Today in looking very closely at the unit it does appear that the root of the problem is the cam arm is bent on the driver side. The one on the passenger side appears to move in line with the trailer frame. Can I purchase just one cam arm or are they only sold in pairs? What is your advise about replacing just one? As you can tell by my email I would appreciate any and all advise you can give me. I neither want to damage my trailer or put our lives or anyone elses at risk due to an improper/damaged sway control unit. Thank you,

The replacement cam arms are sold in a pair # RP26002 or just the replacement arm # RP58435.
Due to the inheritance of your setup you may have a set of gold colored cam arms instead of silver. If this is the case you would want to replace both arms because there was a design change and I cannot recommend you use an old version cam arm with a new one.
Alternatively, if your setup is currently silver you can just replace the one arm with either of the above listed products.
The heavy duty snap-up brackets your referenced are part # 58392. These are sold in quantities of one and will be similar to the # RP6637 kit but will have an additional steel welded for reinforcement. For the chain hanger brackets they are sold in a quantity of 2 as part # 58192.
The bent arm is likely the cause of your bent bracket issue, but since you purchased a new trailer you will want to make sure that the system is rated properly for the weight of the trailer. I have linked some help articles on weight distribution for you to check out.
I have linked the above mentioned products to this page for your convenience.
