Recommended Weight Distribution System for 6K and 7K Trailers Towed by GMC Denali

Question:

I have a travel trailer that weighs about 6k loaded. I also have a flatbed that is about 7k loaded. My denali has a class V hitch rated at 1000/10,000. I would like to use a wd hitch that is compatible with both. The travel trailer has a 2-5/16inch ball and the flatbed has a 2inch ball so the balls would need to be compatible as well. Any suggestions for this setup?

Weight distribution (WD) systems need to be tuned to the actual fully-loaded trailer tongue weight (TW) in order to work properly. 6K and 7K trailers could have similar tongue weights, which would allow one system to work with both, apart from the need to swap out hitch balls. You'll want to check the actual trailer TWs and add to that the weight of anything that sits behind the Denali's rear axle, since that too acts like trailer TW.

Typically a properly loaded trailer's TW will be 12 to 15-percent of its gross weight. 6K and 7K trailers could then have TWs ranging from a low of 720-lbs up to 1050-lbs. There are systems that can work with both of these TWs. Reese's Strait-Line system # RP66084 works over a range of 600- to 1200-lbs and you can use it with both 2-inch and 2-5/16-inch hitch balls, parts # A-90 and # 19286. Unlike most WD systems, the Strait-Line prevents sway from happening in the first place.

You will need an extra set of the Dual Cams # RP26002 and Lift Brackets # RP6637 for the second trailer.

The Equal-i-zer system you referenced also works over a similar TW range but it will be easier to swap hitch balls with the Reese.
