Video Transcript for Review of Equal-i-zer Trailer Hitch Ball - Trailer Hitch Ball - EQ91-00-6080

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this two-inch hitch ball for the Equalizer Weight Distribution Systems. This has an 8,000 pound weight capacity. Now this trailer hitch ball's designed for use on the Equalizer Weight Distribution Systems. Basically this ball will attach to your weight distribution head. It is a sturdy steel construction.

And then you can see it has a nice durable, rust-resistant, double chrome plating to it. Also, if you notice the lock washer and the nut for installing it is all included. Put your washer on, then go ahead and put your nut on and tighten that down for it to the correct specs. Again, this is a two-inch diameter. Weight capacity which will be stamped on the top of the ball is 8,000 pounds.

And a few measurements on this. We're gonna measure the shank dimensions. So if we do the overall length of the shank is right at two and a quarter inches long. And the diameter of it is right at one and a quarter inches. But that should do it for the review on this two-inch hitch ball for your Equalizer Weight Distribution Systems with the 8,000 pound weight capacity..

I ordered a ball hitch, ball, trailer wiring harness and 1 7/8" socket. The customer service was outstanding. I mentioned that I needed my order quickly. The rep I worked with researched and found one of the items I ordered was out of stock and would delay the shipment. The rep helped me rework the order and gave special attention to making sure this was done with minimal price increase. She really went the extra mile. The next day I decided I wanted to add on a wiring tester. This meant cancelling and re-booking the order. The rep, a different one this time, took special care to get everything right and make sure I didn't lose any of the items prior to cancelling the original order. The order came very quickly - and that was with free shipping - and the quality of the items is excellent. I only have two concerns with the order. 1) Be wary of installing the ball on the ball hitch. For the ball I ordered, the manufacturer requires 430 lb. ft. of torque. You will likely have a difficult time finding a torque wrench that handles over 300 lb. ft. If you do find one, plan on forking out several hundred dollars for it. You will either have to improvise or find a mechanic who is also likely to improvise as they may not have the proper equipment. This is the one thing I didn't plan for. 2) By no fault of the reps, they had to cancel then re-book the order just to add a $5 item. That points to a very cumbersome order taking system. It adds a lot of unnecessary hassle and may introduce errors into the order. Having said this, the positive of this experience far outweighs the two negative points.

Figured out on Saturday what type of anti-sway hitch I needed to order, receive and install by Wednesday night. Tried another site, they couldn't meet the deadline, turned to google and discovered etrailer. Called at 1 PM on Saturday and talked to Steve Z, he got the order placed, and promised to check the status and follow up with me on Sunday. Everything was delivered on Tuesday and that night the hitch was installed, a day ahead of schedule.

I don't expect to have a high need for towing / trailering, but when I do I'll be checking and calling etrailer first. On a scale of 1 to 10 their customer service is a 15.

Requires a 1-7/8 inch THIN WALL socket to install on a weight distribution hitch.

by:

Great quality, fast delivery and reasonable price. The representative I talked with was very knowledgeable. I'm glad I but both this and the anti-sway trailer set up from etrailer!

by:

The new ball is perfect, I had trouble finding a wrench to remove the the original ball from the ball mount. Once I got the proper sized wrench everything went smoothly.

by:

  • How to Pick Out the Correct Hitch Ball for a WDS
Hey Mason, I wasn't able to find anything relating to that part number but basically you're going to need to pick a ball that has the correct ball diameter (1 7/8", 2", 2 5/16") for your trailer, and shank diameter (the diameter of the ball hole on your WDS) your WDS needs. So for instance, if your WDS had a 1 1/4" diameter hole, and your trailer used a 2" ball, then something like the 2" Hitch Ball for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems # EQ91-00-6080 would work. You're also going...

  • Does the Weight of the Weight Distribution System Count as Tongue Weight When Picking Out WD System
This is a very good question, but you do not need to count the weight distribution system as added tongue weight when you use it. We have had several weight distribution manufacturers come out and specify this. To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I...

  • Best Weight Distribution System with Sway Control for a Gulfstream Vintage Cruiser 19ERD
For your Gulfstream Vintage Cruiser 19ERD, I recommend using the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System part # EQ37060ET which is rated for a total tongue weight of 200 lbs - 600 lbs. The total tongue weight is the tongue weight of the loaded and ready to tow trailer added to any cargo stored behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. The Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System is considered to be one of the best systems on the maret. It has a four point sway control system which is unlike...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution/Sway Control System for 19 Foot 3000 lb Lightweight Travel Trailer
Because a travel trailer has a lot of surface area for crosswinds and traffic caused turbulence to act against, I'd highly recommend using a weight distribution system that provides an incorporated sway control component. To choose the proper system, you'll need to know the tongue weight of the travel trailer when it's fully loaded and ready to go. Anything packed in the truck bed behind the rear axle ALSO needs to be considered as tongue weight. Assuming that the 350 lb figure you mentioned...

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. • Recommended Socket to Install a Ball on a Fastway e2 Hitch
To install a ball, like the Equal-i-zer # EQ91-00-6080, you will need a 1 7/8 inch socket that uses a 3/4 inch drive. The Equal-i-zer Thin Walled Socket # EQ70-00-4800 is ideally suited for this application. The torque rating on the ball will also be the same between round bar and trunnion bar systems and will depend on the specifications listed from the manufacturer. This will be the socket I suggest for both a round bar and trunnion bar weight distribution systems as well.

The system is rated up to 1,000 lbs, so there will be some room for you if you decided to carry cargo at the rear of your vehicle behind the rear wheels. I have spoken with Equal-i-zer in the past and they have said that you can go with the larger system (to an extend) in light of upgrading the trailer down the line without any adverse side affects. Therefore, the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System part # EQ37100ET would work well for you. • How to Determine Trailer Coupler Size For Selecting Hitch Ball On Weight Distribution Hitch
There are a couple ways to determine what size ball would be required for a trailer when selecting a weight distribution hitch like the Fastway e2 # FA94-00-0800. First if you have access to the trailer you will find the ball size stamped into the coupler. Weight distribution is recommended when your fully-loaded ready-to-tow trailer weighs more than half of your towing vehicle weight. I know it might not be what you want to hear but I really can't recommend towing your trailer, which has 500 pounds of tongue weight, with your SUV that lists a 400 pound maximum tongue weight without a weight distribution system.
