Does the Weight of the Weight Distribution System Count as Tongue Weight When Picking Out WD System
Question:
I am considering buying the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution - EQ37061ET for a trailer that I already own. I am buying the tow vehicle next month. I have 3 related questions. 1 I am assuming that I need to add the weight of the equalizer as if it was any other cargo factoring into the GCWR. Is this correct? 2 How much does it weight? 3 Does the equalizer change the tongue/hitch weight in any way? Thanks!

This is a very good question, but you do not need to count the weight distribution system as added tongue weight when you use it. We have had several weight distribution manufacturers come out and specify this.
To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.
I have included a link to the right to our help article on determining tongue weight and another on weight distribution for you.
For a hitch ball you would want part # EQ91-00-6100 for a 2-5/16 inch ball or # EQ91-00-6080 for a 2 inch ball.
If your tongue weight falls between 200 and 600 lbs the Equal-I-zer part # EQ37061ET that you referenced would be a great option.
