Recommended Weight Distribution With Sway Control For 2008 GMC Yukon Towing Camper

Question:

We have a 2008 yukon denali with self leveling airbags and full tow package. Our camper is a 21 ft 5500lb keystone outback with 350 tongue weight. We towed the camper about 4 hours one way a couple weeks ago and there was a lot of movement in the camper side to side. I am thinking its because the airags provide a softer suspension? So I am wondering what would be the best accessory to minimize my future sway issues? Would a weight distribution hitch still suffice with these airbags, or would just a friction sway control bar work? Or do I need to go as far as adding extra suspension helpers? Thank you for your advice. Again, our vehicle is a 2008 gmc yukon denali with 6.2l v8. Thank you.

Since you are towing a camper that weighs nearly as much as your Yukon I recommend installing a weight distribution system with sway control.

To find the right system for you, you will need to know the total tongue weight of your camper when it is loaded and ready to tow added to the weight of any cargo you place behind the rear axle of your Yukon. You may find that you have an additional 200 to 250 lbs of cargo.

The system I recommend is the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution, part # FA92-00-0800. This system also features sway control to help keep the trailer on the road when passing large trucks or when its windy. This system has a tongue capacity rating of 800-lbs. The hitch ball is not included and you need a ball with a 1-1/4 inch shank like part # EQ91-00-6080 for a 2-inch ball and part # EQ91-00-6100 for a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball.
