Very happy with the hitch. I was able to install it on a 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix in a driveway with a friend without removing the exhaust from its hangars, and the vehicle resting on it's tires. It's a pain because it's fiddly trying to get the nuts situated inside the frame and there's not enough room to get a big enough torque wrench on all the bolts. But the hitch is solid, well made and fit the Pontiac well, I don't think they could increase the ground clearance any more without coming up with an impossible to install design. Also 5 stars to etrailer for customer service. My parts kit was missing a critical install piece of hardware. I was told by etrailer that they were having a hard time with the manufacturer getting the part so etrailer took apart a whole hitch and gave me the parts kit from it. Obviously now they can't sell that kit so great job etrailer looking after your customers, going the extra mile to make it right and not letting the end consumer get hosed over a problem.

Pontiac Grand Prix

Product itself is good. However, the clearance from the bottom of receiver to ground is NOT 7.5", it is 7" even though I was assured the one I ordered and the draw tite class II version both had 7.5" clearance - not blaming you, you prob got that info from the manufacturer. I just scrape the hitch now and then because of the lower than advertised clearance - and I have to go VERY slowly over speed bumps.
Your mileage may vary based on the auto this hitch is installed on. Mine is
an '02 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP.

Product is great. Heavy duty. clean. Other than the hitch height, it well met my expectations.

Thanks for the feedback Alan. The measurements that our experts provided were referencing measurements that we take in house for our own installs. There may be some variation with some hitch ground clearance measurements depending on the condition of the vehicle suspension, tires, or inflation of the tires. It is also possible that the use of any aftermarket accessories such as different wheels, tires, could be a cause for this discrepancy in the measurements you are noticing.

2001 Buick Regal

The hitch is very well built and fit was excellent. The two 1/2" holes that needed to be drilled were hard to get at with my 1/2" drill. I used a small 3/8' drill to get the holes as large as I could and that helped. The box it was delivered in could have used a lot more packing. By the time UPS got done with it there wasn't much of a box left and the hitch had several scratches.

by:

The hitch was exactly what I needed and delivered earlier than expected.

  • 3 Bike Rack Recommendation for a 1998 Buick Regal GS with Rear Spoiler
We do have an option for carrying 3 bikes on your 1998 Regal GS with a rear trunk spoiler, but Thule states that the 1997 to 2004 Buick Regal cannot support the weight of their trunk mount bike carriers, and Yakima has not had the opportunity to test these vehicles with a rear mounted spoiler. I would recommend going with the Curt Class II Trailer Hitch, item # C12225, on your vehicle and then using the Swagman Trailhead 3 Bike Carrier, item # S63365, for carrying 3 bikes. An upside to...

  • Hitch Recommendation for Carrying 2 Bikes Using Thule T2 Classic # TH9044 on 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix
I have another option for you. You'll want to use the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class II - 1-1/4" # C12225. Due to the higher 300 lb tongue weight capacity of this hitch, which is lowered to 150 lbs by the # HTAD adapter, you could use your Thule # TH9044 rack and still have a little capacity remaining. The problem you're going to run into using a Class I hitch along with the adapter is that the tongue weight capacity of the hitch will be reduced by 50 percent. The rack...

  • Is the CurtTrailer Hitch, # C12225 Class I or Class II
The CurtTrailer Hitch Receiver Hitch, # C12225, for the 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix is actually a class II hitch so it will not have the protrusion that will prohibit Class II devices. The protusion that you have heard about is on the Class I hitches since they can be easily overloaded when using a Class II device. So that protrusion is there as a safety precaution. This will not be a problem for you since this Curt hitch is a class II.
