Trailer Hitch and 2 Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix SE
Question:
Which will be better for my grand prix pontiac SE 2003? How low will the 2 bicycle rack Swagman or Sport rack be to the ground? I cannot lift the bikes high up but want good clearance. I have double exhaust pipes - will they give out too much heat for bike tires?

For your 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix, there are two Class II hitches available.
We have the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 36241 and the Curt Trailer Hitch # C12225. They both are class II, have a tongue weight capacity of 350 pounds, have a towing capacity of 3500 pounds, and have a 1-1/4 inch hitch opening. They both do not require drilling for installation and need the exhaust to to be temporarily lowered for installation. The Draw-Tite # 36241 is expected to be easier to install than the Curt Hitch #C12225.
When choosing a bike rack, you will want one that is compatible with the hitch you install. The hanging racks, like the Swagman Trailhead, # S63360, will allow plenty of clearance above the ground and exhaust pipes, but you will have to lift the bikes up pretty high to load them.
Adding a trailer hitch and hitch mount bike rack is a great idea, especially if you plan on towing or carrying other things in the future. But if you just want a bike rack, I recommend the Thule Raceway, # TH9001. This rack offers the convenience and easy loading, and the simple installation of a trunk mount rack. I checked with Thule and this rack will fit the 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix 4 door models. Since it is mounted on the trunk, the bikes will not be near the ground or the exhaust and you will not need to add a trailer hitch to install it.
