The CurtTrailer Hitch Receiver Hitch, # C12225, for the 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix is actually a class II hitch so it will not have the protrusion that will prohibit Class II devices.
The protusion that you have heard about is on the Class I hitches since they can be easily overloaded when using a Class II device. So that protrusion is there as a safety precaution. This will not be a problem for you since this Curt hitch is a class II.
