Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

A good alternative to 20.5 x 8-10 tires

These tires and rims are great! I replaced the basic standard wheels and tires that came with my 4 X 6 trailer to pull behind my motorhome. The trailer is used for utility purposes and carries our three bicycles. I wanted tires and rims that would handle both the weight and highway speeds, up to about 75 to 80 mph. The wider wheels and tires also gave more stability to the trailer, and it now also tracks very well behind the motorhome. Great product!

The tires and rims are of high quality and have met all of my expectations, providing a higher speed rating and wider stance on the road than the original OEM tires. Very satisfied and highly recommend this tire and rim setup.

Finding the right product was easy. The trailer site had good summary information to ensure I got what I needed, plus shipping was fast.
I was ordering a spare tire and mounting bracket for my kayak trailer. The etrailer site made it easy to find what I needed, and their filtering function was very helpful.

by:

Great Tires and Rims... salt water almost every weekend and still no rust.. wish my trailer held up this good!!

by:

I needed tires for my pontoon and etrailer had the best prices, the shipping was extremely fast and arrived several days early from projected delivery date. I like doing business with etrailer
they communicated with me every step of the way.

by:

I went with galvanized due to powder coat not lasting and wanted something that would last a long time .

by:

Quality tire and wheel at a fair price, quick shipping and excellent packaging.

by:

These wheels hold up well to the salty roads I drive on with my snowmobile trailer. After one year they still look great, no corrosion.

by:

The tires worked great all last season. The staff is super helpful and responsive!

by:

Bought these fpr a boat trailer. Tires looked good but the rims are rusted. It appears the rim wasnt clean before being galvanized.

Put these on a boat trailer, only put 100 miles tires then boat motor went. Tires still inflated and parked for the last year.

by:

Good as expected

Having ordered a 10 ply load range E set of tires that was not available until August I was able to change the order to 6 ply load rang C and receive them within 2 days. I saved money and the load range will work for me.

Still no issues with the product after a year of use.

by:

Ordered two wheels and tires mid-morning February 4th. They were delivered about 3PM on the 6th. That quickness amazes me!

I installed the wheels/tires yesterday. They fit fine. I was a little concerned because the 205/65 is a little wider than the 205/8 which I was replacing...no problem.

The finish appears to be galvanized color paint and a little rough. Not my idea of galvanized, but it will work.
The tires arrived with 60PSI although the rating is set at 50 PSI. Could be my gage.

The online video of the wheel and tire was very helpful to me. Like many folks, tire lingo is not a daily thing so even specifying lug spacing can be a minor problem. Your video helped.

Couple pictures attached.

Thanks.

I ordered 2 of these tires mounted on galvanized rims for my aluminum snowmobile trailer. They arrived with free shipping in 2 days! They fit perfect and look great on an aluminum trailer. I couldn’t get bare tires for how much they shipped to me on new rims. Overall I am very satisfied, as always, with etrailer. And I would recommend these to anyone!

  • Recommended Tire Pressure for a Tire Size 20.5 x 8 - 10
The tires in your size that we offer have varying pressure ratings depending on their load capacity. For example, if you look at the tires in your size shown on the link I have included you will see that those rated for Load range E, such as # AM3H490, have a specified pressure of 90-psi; those rated as Load range C, such as # AM3H400, have a pressure rating of 50-psi. Trailer tires will indicate their required inflation pressure on the sidewall of the tire. This is usually stated as a...

The Kenda Loadstar K399 Bias Tire, # AM1HP52, that you referenced on our website is the same tire that comes with the galvanized wheel in part # AM3H400. All of our 205/65-10 size tires are Kenda Loadstar bias ply tires meaning the cords in the tire run at a 32 degree angle from the direction of travel. A radial tire is ideal for traveling long distances, however, you will have to go to a 12 inch wheel and tire for a radial tire. Before selecting a tire or wheel, you will want to know...

  • Can I Upgrade from a 4.80x8b Tire to a 205/65-10 Tire?
The answer to your question depends on your current lug pattern and clearance between your fenders and tires. When your trailer is loaded to it's full capacity, there should be a minimum clearance of 3 inches between the top of your tire and the underside of your fender. This will give you adequate clearance for potholes and bumps. There should also be a minimum of an inch of clearance from the side wall of the tire to the trailer frame. You will not be able to use the same wheels and the...

Your 10 inch wheel measuring 11 inch in diameter is normal as odd as that might sound. The diameter is measured on the bead seal of the wheel and not the mounting lip which is the outside most portion that you are measuring. So the part # AM3H400 that you referenced would work well for you.
