Malone Trailers Speed Rating and Tire Replacement Options

Question:

I’ve looked at several of the Malone trailers and have a concern. We have to travel 3 hours or more on highways with speed limits of 75 mph. These trailers are listed as 70 mph. Are they safe at highway speeds?

The speed rating is listed at 70 mph for the Malone MegaSport 2 Tier Trailer for Heavy Boats - 2 Storage Containers - 14' Long - 1000 lbs # MPG550-TH. This is rated for 70 mph max due to the tires. Traveling faster is not recommended as the tires could overheat and fail but traveling at 70 mph max consistently wouldn't be an issue so it will add 15 minutes to your trip but will get you there safely.

The tire size is 20-1/2 x 8 x 10" with a bolt pattern of 5 on 4-1/2 inches is what comes with the trailer and what would need to be replaced for a higher speed. The Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" Galvanized Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range C # AM3H400 is a replacement rated for up to 81 mph. The Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire - 205/65-10 - Load Range C # AM1HP52 is just the tire replacement with that same speed rating to use with your current wheels.
