Video Transcript for Bargman 7-Way Molded Connector Review

Speaker 1: Today we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the Bargman seven way molded trailer connector with a 15 foot cable. Also available in a 10, 18, and 22 feet length. Here's what our cable looks like installed. Now the main reason your going to need a new cable like this one is because if you didn't adequately have the slack tied up when your towing your trailer, it can drag on the ground, causing abrasion, causing a short and it won't work properly anymore.Hooking up to our tow vehicle is as simple as lifting our door, making sure the notch on our cable faces up to push it in. And then the latch on the door will grab the tab and hold it in place. So you don't have to worry about it getting pulled out.

Well, one thing that's nice about this connector, compared to others on the market, is that when we need to unplug from our truck, we have these nice finger tabs here to get an easy grip on it, as we pull out.Now one thing that sets this cable apart from others in the market, is where the end of our cable meets our seven way connector, right here. It's molded together. And this will prevent moisture from getting inside, offering a superior weather resistance, and we don't have to worry about corrosion happening where the wires are connected to our terminals inside the connector. This will cause better electrical performance over the course of time. This thick insulation will provide protection from the elements, and also will help protect it from abrasion if it we're to rub against something. Now that we've gone over some features, we'll show you how to get it installed.

We need to locate the junction box where our wiring connections are made. In our particular case, this is our junction box in our trailer. You'll typically find this near the front. Remove the lid. We'll now remove the nuts on all of our terminals, that hold our wires in place.

Now in our particular case, our factory seven way wire comes into the top here, and all the connections are these top connectors right here. So, we'll one at a time remove the terminals that cover up those wires, then remove those wires themselves and place back on the ones on the bottom that cover them up. This way, we can easily make our connection without becoming confused.Okay, now that we have all seven of our wires disconnected from the terminals on our junction box, we can pull those away, remove our grommet from those wires, you'll keep the grommet, then we'll remove the cable from the trailer. We've gone ahead and routed our new cable through the cable retainer on our frame, and we'll install the ends into our grommet. Okay, we installed our grommet back into our junction box, like the way it was originally.

Now we'll cut off the excess of our wires. Strip out the installation. And we'll crimp on new rain terminals which we have available on our website to each one of the wires. And we'll place them on to the corresponding stud where they belong. This blue wire here, that's for our electric trailer break output. So I'll put that one to the terminal that's label for our electric brakes. Next one's our green wire, and that one is for our tail lights. We'll do our brown wire next. That one's for our right turn signal. Your yellow wire next. That's for a reverse white output, or reverse yellow one for hydraulic trailer brakes, if your trailer had hydraulic brakes. Now we'll do a red wire. That one's for our left turn signal. Now we'll do our black wire. That's for our constant 12 volt power. That leaves us with the white wire. That's our ground wire. Now we'll reinstall all of our nuts. So, with all of our connections now made, we'll reinstall our cover. Now we'll test our our wiring by taking our plug and going into a tester. You can also plug it into the back of your truck. And we'll test out all of our functions. Now we'll start by turning our tail lights on. Okay, those are working good. Now we'll try our brake lights. Brake lights are working good. Do a right turn signal now. That's working good. Try out a left turn signal. That's working great. And that completes our look at and installation of the Bargman seven way molded trailer connector with a 15 foot cable, part number 50-67-103.

I converted a truck box camper wiring to plug in at bumper instead of behind cab. The” pigtail” and wiring diagrams made it an easy repair and therefore safer as well as consistent. Very happy a year later.

This is a Quality product . I needed a longer cable as mine was damaged when it got pinched in my hitch . Fast shipping as always top shelf parts from etrailer.

Exactly as stated. Haven't wired the trailer yet. Wire color doesn't match the receptical but other than that looks well put together.

After figuring out wire colors testing each circuit all is well and works great

by:

This was exactly what I needed to fit my snowmobile trailer. I have one of your connector boxes up high on the wall and this was a great length to go from the truck to the box without splicing the wires. It is a great quality electrical connector as well.

by:

What’s with the wire colors?? I mean really ring out this cable before you use it. All the wire colors are not the standard trailer colors. Almost found out the hard way. Other than that great cable.

Thanks for the follow up Matthew. I am very glad that you tested and confirmed functions, which is what we recommend. I have confirmed with my contacts at Bargman and this wiring harness has the traditional RV wiring configuration. For this the colors and functions are as follows: Black is 12V power, Green is Tail and Running lights, Red is Left turn and Stop, White is Ground, Blue is Brake controller output, Brown is right turn and Stop. I have included a link below for your reference to one of our help articles.

I ordered several items to fix a trailer that had a previous shade tree mechanic fix. Items came quickly and were affordable. Website is very easy to navigate. I like to do things one time. Etrailer allows me to do just that with their expansive inventory. I have ordered several times and will continue to do so.

This plug connection was extremely well made. I prefer the removable head style to be able to fix wire issues but this seems to be very well made and stout. Wires were heavier than factory and the casing was much thicker.

by:

my plug adapter is to short so how can I return it and get a longer one

by:

Nice plug but just would not push on to any of the four plugs I have cord is pretty stiff and is going to be worse in the winter, only one they had with fifteen feet of cable should have just sent it back

by:

Nice product except that the wire color positions are incorrect.

by:

One year old and everything has held up well

by:

Just what I needed, great quality in material and workman ship and. Super fast shipping........I will be back to order more, Thank you!

Just what was needed

Arrived as scheduled, heavy duty, will work fine.

  • What is the Function of the Black Wire on the Bargman 7-Pole Trailer Connector # 50-67-008
The black wire on the Bargman 7-Pole Trailer Connector, # 50-67-103, will carry 12 volt power from the tow vehicle for accessories on the trailer that require a 12 volt power source such as an additional trailer battery, breakaway battery or any other accessory. This wire will carry 12 volt power from the tow vehicles battery. You can attach it where you would like, or tie it off if you do not have a use for that function. I have listed the functions of the wires below. Yellow: center...

  • How To Remove Tail Light Lens on 2009 Box Trailer
Normally to remove a light lens there would be screws to remove to remove the lens. If you do not see screws then the lens may be a snap on. To remove a snap on lens you could use a flat head screw driver to pry the the lens off carefully. Since I am not sure of your exact tail light assembly it is hard to say exactly how to remove the lens or if the lens is removable at all. Some tail lights are sealed to be submersible. If you want to send me a photo of the light I can give you more specific...

  • Gauge Wire to Use for Trailer with Triple Axle Setup that is 43 Feet Long Overall
It does sound like you need heavier gauge wire for the brake output circuit on your trailer to activate them properly. For that many axles and that length of trailer 10 gauge for the circuit just isn't going to cut it. I'd go with 8 gauge wire like Dexter recommends.

  • Which Trailer Wiring Connector Has a Pin for Reverse Lights
In order to add reverse lights to a trailer would would need to have a 7-Way on the trailer, like # 50-67-103, and a 7-Way on the vehicle. On the vehicle side, if you are looking at the back of the 7-Way where the wires connect, the reverse light circuit is the center pin. It will need to connect to a reverse light wire behind one of the vehicle tail lights. On the trailer side the matching pin is again the center pin. So from that pin, you would route wire to reverse lights. Reverse lights...

It sounds like you are speaking of the wires for the brake magnets. If this is correct, you will need to connect one of the wires to the brake controller output wire on your trailer connector and the other wire will need to be grounded to a clean metal surface on the trailer. One of the links covers everything you ever wanted to know about trailer lights, including where they need to be and what types based on the length and width of a trailer. The other does include some wiring and connector diagrams that should be helpful. The 5th function for 40 ft. Wishbone 5-Way Trailer Harness with 30" Ground and 5 ft. Blue Wire Item # A40W5B is meant to go into an electric reverse lockout on a trailer with surge brakes. On the vehicle side the 5th function ties into the reverse lights so that when the vehicle is in reverse the lockout solenoid will be energized and not allow brake fluid to actuate the brakes. Usually on a trailer with electric brakes both the trailer and the vehicle will have a 7-Way trailer connector....

  • Compatibility of Aluminum Wire With Copper Trailer Wiring
You do not want to mix aluminum with copper like found in the trailer connectors like # 50-67-103 as well as the trailer lights and brake magnets. The dissimilar metals will cause galvanic corrosion and can cause wire failure. I recommend instead using # 12-1-1 and # 16-1-1 sold by the foot for your wiring needs.

You really want brakes on both axles of your trailer. If you only put them on a single axle they're going to be stopping the full weight of the trailer when it is really designed to be shared with another set of brakes. Also, there are state laws that require brakes on both axles so if you add them to both you don't have to worry about local laws. • Parts Needed to Add Electric Drum Brakes to a Trailer
The first thing you need to do is check the trailer axle to see if it has brake mounting flanges. It will look like the square part welded onto # TRU74FR. If the trailer does not have those they will need to be added by a professional with experience in welding on brake flanges because it is a precision job. • Troubleshooting Running Lights and Brakes Not Working Correctly on a Haulmark Trailer
The problem with the running lights not working could be several things. The first thing I would check is to make sure the 7-Way on your 2006 Chevy Silverado is getting a signal for the running lights. Using a circuit tester like # PTW2993, test the running light circuit which should be the pin in the 11 o'clock position if looking at the face of the plug. • Recommended 7-Way Extension With Trailer End Connectors for Cab Over Camper on 2022 Silverado 2500
As far as I know that is not something that is normal for an older camper. More than likely the blue wire has taken the place of the yellow wire for some reason since you have no need for a brake controller. The 7-way connection in the bed of your 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 is designed for 5th wheel/gooseneck towing so that is the reason why it is located there. In order to connect the 7-way on your vehicle to the camper you need wiring with two trailer end connectors on it like the...

  • What Happens if Reverse Light Pin of 7-Way Doesn't Have Purple Wire
Hey Aaron, for trailer wiring the colors are only a guide and not always carefully followed. In your case if the reverse light pin of your 7-way happens to have a black wire then that's perfectly fine to use for the reverse lights. So what you'd want to do is run the reverse lights from the pin of the 7-way (should be center) and you'd be fine.
