The battery was fully charged when it arrived and still fully charged a couple of months later when I finally got around to installing it. Works as expected. The lanyard for the breakaway switch is pretty long (50",) so I installed it as far back as I could on the trailer frame.

Great. I have not needed the breakaway controller. I have noticed the battery holds a charge for a long time, so even though I don’t use the tailer for months at a time, it stays charged and gets topped off when I use the trailer.

by:

I bought a used trailer and its breakaway was in rough shape with a dead battery. This kit was easy to install and has been working great.

by:

First off my 20' trailer I bought is only 2 years old, I tried every place in town and no one had a breakawway kit to match mine, all they said it was an old style. Got on computer found etrailer got the best cudtomer service and was able to get full demension, was an exact match, hooked it up and is working great.

by:

Easy to install and works as designed. It was a good choice foe me

by:

Item is as described

by:

Truly makes installing the brake controller a snap... two snaps actually.

by:

First things first. Love your company! Keep up the great work. etrailer has been my go to site for all my trailer needs. As for the break away kit. I got a used inclosed trailer and it had a very large truck battery inside the trailer with a very large hole in the floor for the trailer breakaway system. An eye sore to say the least and very much in my way. I was shopping around etrailer site found the Bright way breakaway system. Watched the review about it. Did not think it would work for my two axle brake system. Ordered it anyway. Installed on outside of trailer. Did all this after installing new brakes. Did a test and I could not get the wheels to turn with trailer off the ground as well as doing a test with the trailer on my truck and the breakaway system worked and held the truck in place. Bottom line is the system does it job for a small battery. Love the system. It is small, can be placed almost anywhere, and again does its job. Only issue I had with it was the two screws that hold the cover closed started to rust after the first time it got wet. I replace them with better ones.

by:

etrailer is great as always. They are my sole source for everything trailer and I have never had a complaint against them.

This product on the other hand, horrible. They apparently have no quality control and make a crap product. When I received it, I took out the two screws holding the lid closed, to charge the battery before installing it on my trailer. When I went to open the lid, the first thing I noticed was the hinge on the lid was broken in two of three places holding the hinge to the lid. (see attached pictures) I immediately contacted etrailer and they sent me a replacement, like I said before they are great.

So I just received the replacement, I gently opened the box and the first thing I did was check the hinge. Wanna guess? Yep it was broken in two of the three places as well. The product packaging was in excellent shape, the shipping boxes were in great shape for both, there are no signs of shipping damage. So this is a lid that is supposed to be mounted to a trailer and survive the elements for years and it can't even make it to the consumer without damage.

NO I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT.

by:

Well built and easy to install. Like the visible charged condition lights

by:

fast shipping
product as expected

by:

Great product. Easy installation. Helpful instructions. Saved $$ over paying someone to install. Works p perfectly

by:

We've had serious problems with it the biggest problem we've had is it corroded the plug up so bad we could hardly see the terminals. Have no idea what it is or what caused it

Etrailer Expert

The breakaway kit would not have caused corrosive issues. I would follow your 7 way wire up to see where the corrosion starts. Perhaps there is a nick in the wire or other damage. Once corrosion starts on a terminal, without seeing it, it can quickly transfer onto the vehicle side.

by:

Excellent parts, very fast, great tracking, highly recommend

by:

Purchased because this is what my trailer had before and I didnt want to rework the mounting or wiring. This setup is good for about 4-5 years. The labeling and film over the buttons does not stand up to UV rays very well and came off almost immediately, letting water into the enclosure. It seems like the circuitboard for the charger is mostly water resistant and the battery box drains well enough. Serviceable average grade kit.

by:

Mounted fine and works as intended. Coated terminals on battery with dielectric grease to prevent corrosion because the battery box isn't water tight. Otherwise great product for the price.

by:

Good PRICE Works great!

by:

Good replacement for Broken or worn out factory breakaway kit

by:

The breakaway box works great and was easy to install. The directions were clear. Shipping was fast. Great product and company!

by:

Good Quality break away kit! Highly rec ommend!

by:

Wired well, battery is charging, so far so good. Have not and hope to never use.

by:

Excellent system, easy to install, provides great protection for the battery, and the breakaway switch is very heavy duty!

by:

These are what we use in our fleet. They hold up better than the other brands we have tried.

by:

Is the best break away kit I have ever installed

by:

Great kit for replacing my old system liked the extra length of all the wires especially the switch so I didn’t have to lengthen them like with most replacement switches

by:

Second time I have ordered from eTrailer and everything was fantastic.

  • Can Bright Way Push-to-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit Be Submerged On Boat Trailer
A breakaway like the Bright Way Push-to-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit with 1-Amp Charger and 5 Ah Battery - Top Load # 3802308 is weatherproof but not waterproof. Although it can stand up to rain you do not want to submerge it. The breakaway can be mounted however you see fit as long as it is secure on the trailer and the breakaway switch can function as intended. Installing it on your winch post will not cause a problem.

  • Trailer Breakaway Kit For Replacement of Melted Kit
I'm certainly sorry to hear that; there are a couple of issues that may have caused this, from a bad kit to the far more likely scenario of there being a short somewhere along the wiring, though it's not possible for me to say with any real certainty. I do have to say that the breakaway definitely needs its own battery, which is required by law in most states. I highly recommend going with a breakaway kit that has its own battery, from Bright Way. This will also make installing a Bright Way Push-to-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit # 3802308 easier which you will also likely need if you do not already have a breakaway battery. The easiest way to tell if a trailer's 7-way wiring is functional is to have a vehicle with a 7-way nearby so you can just plug it in and test the functions. Otherwise we have a 7-way tester part # 8010 which I realize may not be the most practical solution. Or you could run 12 volt jumper wires from a vehicle's positive battery post to all of the circuits on the 7-way with a jumper wire ran from the ground pin to the negative side of the battery. There are a couple possibilities you may be having. First I recommend checking the trailer wiring specifically with the Breakaway Battery Kit # 3802308. As the issue with the Brake Controller # 80550 only occurs when the vehicle is running this would be when power is sent through the charge line to the breakaway battery.
