Can New 7-Way Trailer Wiring Rewire be Tested
Question:
I have been asked to rewire a trailer that has a lot of issues. I will soon order one of your 7 way connectors and a junction boxes so that I can repair all the problems. However, I have no experience with electric trailer brakes. How can I know if the setup on this trailer is correct and would work when needed? I hope to find out some of these details, then order everything I need all at one time. Thank you in advance.

The easiest way to tell if a trailer's 7-way wiring is functional is to have a vehicle with a 7-way nearby so you can just plug it in and test the functions. Otherwise we have a 7-way tester part # 8010 which I realize may not be the most practical solution.
Or you could run 12 volt jumper wires from a vehicle's positive battery post to all of the circuits on the 7-way with a jumper wire ran from the ground pin to the negative side of the battery. For just the brakes you can run the jumper wire like mentioned to the 5:00 pin and you should hear a click and then a hum to let you know the circuit is active.
Probably the easiest 7-way junction box kit would be the part # HS381-9000 which you'd run all the trailer wiring circuits to once you mounted it to the trailer frame.
