Trailer Breakaway Kit For Replacement of Melted Kit

Question:

My emergency breakaway is hooked up to a trailer battery that runs the dump function. Its a hydraulic dump trailer. I tested it without being hooked up to my truck, and it seemed to work fine. When I plugged in the trailer 7 way and tested it before driving away everything melted. The power wire from the breakaway switch to the battery melted. Its was overheating when the circuit was connected by pulling the break-away pin.

I'm certainly sorry to hear that; there are a couple of issues that may have caused this, from a bad kit to the far more likely scenario of there being a short somewhere along the wiring, though it's not possible for me to say with any real certainty. I do have to say that the breakaway definitely needs its own battery, which is required by law in most states. I highly recommend going with a breakaway kit that has its own battery, from Bright Way.

You can choose from either a 5 or 10 amp hour battery, and both have a battery charger built-in:

- 1-Amp Charger and 5 Ah Battery: Bright Way Push-to-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit # 3802308

- 2-Amp Charger and 10 Ah Battery: Bright Way Push-to-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit # 3802311

I have also added some links below to video reviews for you to check out if you'd like to take a look.
